  • Patent number: 4471958
Abstract: A concentration aid for strung rackets used in various sports wherein the object is to hit a projectile, comprising a racket having a head portion provided with a netting matrix, and a handle; a bead made of rigid aesthetic material and having a through-bore. The bead is located in one of the as square openings of the "sweet spot" area of the netting and is held in place by a pair of strings under slight tension and passing through the through-bore and extending on either side thereof, having their opposite ends fastened to the racket frame or to the matrix netting. A projectile striking the bead produces a distinctive vibration felt in the player's forearm thereby helping him or her to properly localize the "sweet spot". The bead does not deviate the trajectory of the projectile on either forehand or backhand strokes of the racket since it is free to retract within the netting opening when struck by the projectile.

  • Patent number: 4470599
Abstract: A grip for a racket for tennis and other similar games which includes relatively flat faces on one side for engagement with the thumb and fingers and a rounded or elliptical face disposed on the opposite side of the grip from the flat faces for engagement with the palm of the hand. Corners at the intersection of the flat faces provide control of the racket while the rounded portion nestles in the palm for a comfortable and secure gripping of the racket to prevent rotation thereof. The same grip may be used either for a forehand or backhand position and either for a left handed or right handed person, merely by inversion of the racket.

  • Patent number: 4470602
Abstract: A game is played on the playing surface of a board divided into at least three rows of squares with identical pieces except for player distinguishing markings, each piece being cubic in shape and having each of the three pairs of opposite sides thereof marked with distinguishing insignia. Each insignia designates a mode or characteristic to be assumed by the piece when the side of the cube faces upwardly. The rules provide details for playing a game utilizing such board and pieces in which the three modes are characterized as aggressive, impregnable and vulnerable.

  • Patent number: 4466611
Abstract: Active physiotherapeutic apparatus for the rehabilitation of lower extremities and improving blood circulation comprising a base member upwardly inclined and a pair of foot operated pedals pivotably mounted thereon. In one embodiment, an elbow-shaped lever is pivoted beneath each pedal. One end of each lever carries a sheave which bears against the underside of a pedal. The other end of each lever is connected to a tension spring. Repeatedly depressing the pedals against the force of the tension spring acting through the lever and sheave results in the aforementioned therapeutic benefits.

  • Patent number: 4465283
Abstract: This invention concerns a game board apparatus comprising a checkerboard pattern of a multiplicity of parallel rows and columns of alternately-colored spaces and a pair of continuous pathways running horizontally and vertically from space-to-space in opposite directions by devious routes from one corner of the board to a diagonally-opposite corner of the board, and means providing a maze of several alternative and dead-end paths deviating from each pathway and designed to confuse the players with respect to the most direct route for movement of a play piece from start to finish of each pathway, the rate of a player's play piece progess from start to finish being determined entirely by chance and player perception.

  • Patent number: 4465282
Abstract: An educational game for facilitating the teaching of the recognition of musical symbols by elementary school pupils comprises an instruction chart representing football players and musical symbols and presenting similarities between player position names and the names of the musical notes. The game is played on a board representing a football field and movable pieces are attached to the board to indicate team positions. Flashcards showing the musical symbols on one side and the names of the symbols on the other are used to secure pupil recognition of the symbols and to position the team piece favorably upon correct recognition by the pupil.

  • Patent number: 4462591
Abstract: A racket string filament having in cross-section a first face and a second face, formed back to back, is strung in the frame of a racket such that the first face is exposed only on one side of the racket and the second face only is exposed on the other side of the racket, thus forming a first uniform hitting surface on one side and a second uniform hitting surface on the other side. The hitting surfaces thus formed by the various faces cause a ball, when stroked, to form a trajectory which will be influenced greatly by the type of hitting surface used, and will impart spin or English to the moving ball. In one embodiment, the cross section of the first face is convex in shape and the cross section of the second face is flat or concave in shape.

  • Patent number: 4462592
Abstract: The invention relates to a metallic frame for tennis rackets formed by a tubular section in the interior of which there is freely housed an elongate resiliently yieldable crown-like ring structure carrying a plurality of members for anchoring and guiding the strings. The members are mounted on the ring structure in a freely oscillatory way and spaced apart from each other. The crown-like ring structure is made of a metallic wire piece which is bent in a fretwork fashion so as to have formed intermediate its ends a plurality of spaced, transversely extending spokes which carry the oscillatory members and which are interconnected by a plurality of spaced, longitudinally extending spokes which lie in a generally sinusoidal path around the inside of the frame section.

  • Patent number: 4458898
Abstract: A racquet having two sets of strings crossing one another and preferably interwoven, and having at least one string positioning element engaging and extending along a string of one of the sets and contacting a plurality of strings of the second set in a relation preventing lateral deflection thereof at the points at which the strings cross one another, while permitting deflection of the strings of the second set at locations between those cross points. This enables the application of spin forces to a ball by such deflection while at the same time minimizing wear by virtue of retention of the strings against relative motion at the crossing points. The positioning elements are preferably tubular and desirably disposed about the transverse strings of a racquet, and may contain notches for receiving successive longitudinal strings in locating relation.

  • Patent number: 4452452
Abstract: An apparatus for lacing the lateral strings in a racket frame which has already been strung with the longitudinal strings. The apparatus consists of a lower beam provided in its upper surface with two staggered longitudinal rows of vertical slots, the spacing of the slots of each row corresponding to twice the pitch distance of the longitudinal strings of the racket frame. The corresponding slots of the two rows form pairs of slots and the upper surface of the lower beam forms string support surfaces between the pairs of slots. An upper gripper beam is vertically movable with respect to the lower beam. The gripper beam has downwardly facing string surfaces arranged in pairs associated with the pairs of slots of the lower beam. The gripping surfaces of each pair are separated by a downwardly extending lug portion.

  • Patent number: 4448421
Abstract: A board game device includes a playing board which defines a playing surface upon which a plurality of markers are arranged in a pattern. First and second distinguishable playing pieces are also locatable upon the playing surface at any of the locations at which a marker is locatable as well as upon unique additional playing positions. A chance selection device determines whether a player must utilize either the first or second playing piece in that turn and an additional chance selection devices determines the amount of movement undertaken by the selected playing piece. Movement of the first playing piece along the playing surface enables the player to collect the various markers along its path within the playing piece. This is accomplished by engaging the markers such that the markers are forced through a valved slot in one surface of the playing piece.
