  • Patent number: 4579343
Abstract: A molded composite racquet is provided, wherein the frame of the entire racquet is prepared using the combination of continuous graphite fibers longitudinal within the shape of the frame, wrapped in a bias arrangement with layers of fiberglass, that combination being covered by a protective resinous outerlayer. The presence of the graphite fiber in a unidirectional orientation around the hoop of the racquet in the plane of the strings increases the resistance against compression with minimal affect on the flexibility, bending or torsion, of the racquet. The concentric and bias orientation of the fiberglass layer supplies sturdiness to increase the resistance to torsion and bending stress. The molded composite racquet achieves a controlled impulse duration during impact with a game ball which provides greater control during impact and less shock to the user of the racquet during the recreation.

  • Patent number: 4575083
Abstract: A racket, especially a tennis racket having an elastic strip clamped in the edge area of the strung hitting surface through alternate crossing points of respective longitudinal and transverse strings and parallel to one of the strings or through diagonally adjacent crossing points of the strings. The strip is attached to the racket in a manner so that it can be detached at any time. The elastic strip serves the purpose of decreasing string vibrations during hitting of the ball.

  • Patent number: 4575094
Abstract: A board game including a base board and an upper board shiftable within limits atop the base board in either of two transverse directions. The base board bearing sets of danger, safe, and return indicators and the upper board has graphics of a pathway through a castle. Openings along the pathway extend through the upper board to expose some of the danger and return indicators. Each player is provided with a marker movable from opening to opening plus shift board, obstacle/peril, and defense/escape cards, the obstacle/peril cards being playable on an opponent whose token is on a danger indicator. Failure to defend against or escape a peril or obstacle causes the player to return to the last exposed return spot.

  • Patent number: 4575096
Abstract: Game apparatus comprises a plurality of playing pieces each coded to indicate its attribute and value. The attribute of each piece is one of three possible attributes and the value of each piece is one of three possible values. The three attributes and values are such that one attribute and value is superior to another attribute and value while also being inferior to the third attribute and value. In the preferred embodiment, three playing pieces of different attributes and different values are stacked to comprise a playing unit. Two players successively compare the attributes and values of the bottom-most pieces of their playing units in a number of plays in order to determine the outcome of the game.

  • Patent number: 4575093
Abstract: A camping travel board game with plurality of camping modes of travel incorporated in the board game. Players have the opportunity to choose a set of contiguous "State Cards" they wish to travel through. The chosen set of "State Cards" is to be placed on the board surface. A plurality of "State Cards" gives players a plurality of playing surface possibilities on the board. The "State Cards" have indicia thereon stating various travel attractions offered only in the state it represents, making each "State Card" uniquely different. The board game has a stack of "Nuisance Cards" and "Pleasure Cards" (pertinent to camping) to hinder or help players win the game with the most points. The board game helps players to learn contiguous states, state attractions within each state, advantages and disadvantages of different modes of travel camping, nuisances and pleasures of camping vacations, as well as provide entertainment and family togetherness.

  • Patent number: 4572513
Abstract: An educational game including a game board, at least one game piece and an audio recording. The game board has a serpentine path located on the top face thereof. The serpentine path is broken up into a series of connected squares. The game piece is designed such that it is moved along the path as the game is played. The audio recording contains a number of mathematical problems or other questions and the answers thereto. Each question or problem is separated from its answer by a pause of predetermined duration. Each time the player of the game answers a problem or a question correctly and within the time allowed, the player advances his/her game piece along the serpentine path. The number of squares on the path and the number of questions on the recording are equal so that if a player answers all of the questions correctly, his/her game piece exactly reaches the finish space.

  • Patent number: 4570932
Abstract: A blade for an ice hockey stick includes a wedge in the outer free end thereof, so that the front surface of the blade is curved and the rear surface is straight. Such a structure provides the forehand advantages of a curved blade and facilitates the backhand shot. By using a soft wedge which extends outwardly a short distance beyond the outer edge of the blade the possibility of a stick related injury is reduced.

  • Patent number: 4570933
Abstract: A tennis racket frame having a head portion with strings strung thereacross. Holes located in the head portion receive knotting blocks which serve as mounts for the strings. The knotting blocks have two legs and an extending shank arranged in a T-shaped configuration. A central bore is located through the shank of the knotting block for the reception of the strings. One leg of the knotting block is also provided with a bore that is perpendicular or parallel to the central bore. The strings pass through the central bore of the block, through the bore in the leg of the block and then under a portion of the string that extends from the central bore to form a looped string end. The leg of the knotting block that contains the bore also has an undercut portion that allows the string to be wrapped around the leg.

  • Patent number: 4569521
Abstract: A composite baseball bat has a unique tapered aluminum spar encased in polyurethane foam. The tapered spar is formed by swaging, starting with an aluminum tube whose outer diameter and wall thickness are those for the barrel section of the bat. A tapering portion is swaged to a decreasing outer diameter and increasing wall thickness, which is then constant over the handle portion of the bat. This construction yields far greater stiffness and freedom from objectionable vibrations.

  • Patent number: 4565373
Abstract: A deductive numerical game played by plural (N) players, one of whom is a dealer, includes N sets of first game pieces, each set including a like plurality (M) of game pieces respectively bearing indicia representing consecutive numbers. A second set of game pieces respectively bear indicia representing different cumulative totals equal to the sum of the numbers displayed on J (J is less than M) first game pieces to be selected from the first game piece set of the dealer. The J first game piece set of the dealer defines a match set hidden by the dealer from each other player's view. The dealer selects and displays a second set game piece to inform each player of the cumulative total equal to the sum of hidden indicia displayed within the match set. Each player in turn selects J first game pieces with indicia having a total corresponding to the dealer's second set game pieces cumulative value.

  • Patent number: 4565371
Abstract: A tennis racket having a handle which is constructed so that the racket will flex more readily when the ball strikes one surface of the racket strings than when the ball strikes the opposite surface of the strings. This difference in flexibility enables the racket user to selectively return a soft or a hard stroke by turning the racket through 180.degree.. The difference in handle flexibility can be obtained by (1) making the handle assymetric in cross section as in FIG. 1, or (2) making one longitudinal side of the handle of a material of different elasticity than the opposite longitudinal side, or (3) providing a bend in the handle as shown in FIG. 3 and FIG. 4.

  • Patent number: 4563006
Abstract: An ice-hockey stick, preferably with a blade (1) slightly curved in its longitudinal direction, where the concave side (3) of the blade obtained by said curve is the forehand side. The stick is particularly characterized in that the lower side (2) of the blade (1) is bevelled or correspondingly worked along a substantial part of the length of the blade (1) and substantially slopes from the forehand side (3) to the backhand side (4) of the blade, so that the blade (1) is lower, shorter, on the forehand side (3) than on the backhand side (4).

  • Patent number: 4561655
Abstract: A steel tubular frame design for racquetball racquets, has a varying cross-sectional structure. This structure gives strength in the lower portion of the racquet so as to reduce the torsional and flexional movements of the frame in that area and has a different cross-sectional area in the upper portion of the racquet where flexibility is needed, providing this flexibility in a continuous one-piece racquet. The invention is characterized by a four-sided peanut-shaped steel tube that has convex corners and two concave sides on the long sides. The convexity and concavity varying at different points throughout the racquet. The racquet frame is of a quadraform/wishbone configuration and is throatless.
