  • Patent number: 9060835
Abstract: The invention relates to devices that are stabilized at an intraluminal residence site in the gastrointestinal tract by their conformation, including dimensions of length and curvature. The device as a whole corresponds to the conformation of the residence site; more particularly, the curved or angled portions correspond to the curved or angled portions of the residence site and do not conform to an immediately proximal or distal site. In some embodiments, the conformationally stabilized device may effect a change in the residence site shape that contributes to stability of the device. Some embodiments are directed toward curbing appetite and/or reducing food intake, other embodiments may be directed toward other therapeutic ends. Some embodiments of the device are designed to reside wholly in the duodenum; others reside principally within the duodenum but extend proximally into the gastric antrum, while other embodiments are designed to reside elsewhere within the gastrointestinal tract.

  • Patent number: 8911484
Abstract: A multi-axial expandable pedicle screw includes a hollow screw having a spherical shaped end for connecting with an adapting piece in the form of a universal joint structure. The hollow screw further includes a tip shaped end, and a bore formed inside the hollow structure having a taper shaped tip. Expansion gaps are formed in the hollow screw to uniformly set up two, three, four or more anterior fins on the hollow screw extending upward along its axial direction, from its tip to the bore. The hollow screw is configured to receive an inner needle disposed in the bore. This pedicle screw is easy to operate and provides a high degree of control in screw expansion with increased stability and reliability. • Patent number: 8876910
Abstract: A method for selectively dissolving the beta (?) phase of a titanium alloy out of the surface of the alloy, thereby leaving behind a nano-scale porous surface having enhanced bonding properties with either a biological tissue, such as bone, or an adhesive material, such as a polymer or ceramic by immersing the alloy in an ionic aqueous solution containing high levels of hydrogen peroxide and then exposing the alloy to an electrochemical voltage process resulting in the selective dissolution of the beta phase to form a nano-topographic metallic surface.
