  • Patent number: 9819511
Abstract: A system and method for detecting a communication status includes generating, at an originating virtual tunnel end point (VTEP), a virtual extensible local area network (VXLAN) data packet in accordance with VXLAN protocols. A bidirectional forwarding detection (BFD) data packet is encapsulated in the VXLAN data packet to provide a VXLAN BFD data packet. The VXLAN BFD data packet is transmitted to a terminating VTEP to establish a BFD session over a VXLAN tunnel. A communication status of the VXLAN tunnel is determined for the BFD session based on a reply BFD data packet received from the terminating VTEP in accordance with a receiving time interval.

  • Patent number: 9794886
Abstract: In embodiments of wireless radios managed based on proximity, a mobile device, such as a mobile phone, tablet computer, or other portable device can be implemented for multiple, different wireless communications. A mobile device can include a first radio system for a first wireless communications technology, and a second radio system for a second wireless communications technology. A connection manager determines, based on the first wireless communications technology, whether the mobile device is in an area that is proximate an endpoint implemented for the second wireless communications technology. The connection manager can turn-on the second radio system to enable wireless communication with the endpoint when the mobile device is in the area proximate the endpoint. Alternatively, the connection manager can turn-off the second radio system and conserve power that would otherwise be utilized to scan for the endpoint when the mobile device is not in the area proximate the endpoint.

  • Patent number: 9788291
Abstract: A method for dynamically selecting one of a plurality of base stations for provision of timing information. A base station compares satellite signal strengths measured at satellite-positioning-system receivers of a plurality of base stations, such as the plurality of base stations in a local area network (LAN) for instance. The base station then selects one of the plurality of base stations to provide timing information based at least in part on the comparison, such as the one base station having the greatest satellite signal strength for instance. The base station then operates according to timing information indicated by satellite data from the selected base station. Advantageously, this method can help to increase the accuracy and reliability of the timing information.

  • Patent number: 9788220
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are described that are directed to estimating the bandwidth at a particular location in a wireless mesh network. In some embodiments, a performance determination apparatus includes a signal receiver module, a location module, a signal analysis module, a report module, and a placement module. In some embodiments, the signal analysis module collects received signal strength indicator (RSSI) on one or more receive chains of the receiver and analyzes various aspects of signal quality. In some embodiments, the signal analysis module estimates the bandwidth available at the location, estimates the latency at the location, or both. In some embodiments, the report module represents the quality of the signal graphically by overlaying a representation of the signal quality on a map of the area. In some embodiments, the placement module recommends where to place customer premises equipment (CPE) in order to maximize signal quality.

  • Patent number: 9775139
Abstract: A system and method is disclosed for resource block-specific control signaling in a communication system. Communication data is transmitted using a transmission channel comprising a plurality of resource blocks defined by allocating time-frequency slots in a transmission resource. Resource block control information is transmitted in a “feed-forward” manner to a user end (UE) or group of UEs using channels physically mapped into scheduled resource blocks (RBs) for that user or group of users. Embodiments of the invention provide an RB-specific control channel that comprises RB control elements that are embedded within scheduled resource blocks. The invention, therefore, reduces the amount of control information that must be transmitted by common or shared control channels.

  • Patent number: 9774535
Abstract: A method of powerline communications in a powerline communications (PLC) network including a first node and at least a second node. The first node transmits a data frame to the second node over a PLC channel. The second node has a data buffer for storing received information. The second node runs a flow control algorithm which determines a current congestion condition or a projected congestion condition of the data buffer based on at least one congestion parameter. The current congestion condition and projected congestion condition include nearly congested and fully congested. When the current or projected congestion condition is either nearly congested or fully congested, the second node transmits a BUSY including frame over the PLC channel to at least the first node. The first node defers transmitting of any frames to the second node for a congestion clearing wait time.

  • Patent number: 9755941
Abstract: Systems and methods that use adaptive control of communication protocol parameters in a network of moving things. Each network device may share information identifying communication protocol parameters used by the network device through periodic broadcasts, which may be received by neighboring network devices that are within communication range. The neighboring network devices may then adjust their own communication protocol parameters accordingly when attempting to communicate with the first network device and their own neighboring network devices. Network devices that have not received the shared information may use information about their geographic location and the geographic location of neighboring network devices to estimate values of some communication protocol parameters that will provide more effective communication.

  • Patent number: 9742578
Abstract: A method of operating a node of a network is disclosed. The method includes receiving a data frame having a header with plural addresses. The node determines if a first address of the plural addresses is an address of a descendant of the node and if a second address of the plural addresses is a parent address of the node. If so, the node changes a second address of the plural addresses to its own address in response to the step of determining. The node then transmits the data frame to at least one descendant of the node.

  • Patent number: 9729446
Abstract: In one aspect, one or more processors may be coupled to a content-addressable memory, a first memory and a second memory. The one or more processors may be configured to receive a data packet, read a predetermined number of bytes from the data packet, and match the read bytes to patterns corresponding to rows of the content-addressable memory. Further, the one or more processors may determine a number associated with the matched row, and based on the number, determine an initial routing instruction. The one or more processors may then determine which bits of the read bytes to hash using hash information stored in the first memory, hash the bits to generate a hash value, determine whether the value corresponds to routing information in the second memory, and route the data packet based on the routing information.
