  • Patent number: 7107744
Abstract: A running mower of the present invention comprises a traveling body 1 provided, between the front wheels 2 and the rear wheels 3, with a rotary mowing unit 12 which includes a laterally spaced pair of mowing blades 16a, 16b. The traveling body is also provided with an outlet duct 26 extending backward from between the mowing blades past a position between the rear wheels for discharging grass mown by the mowing blades. The rotary mowing unit 12 is provided with a forwardly extending mower input shaft 22 disposed offset from the center of the mowing blades toward one mowing blade 16b by an appropriate amount L1. A front part of the traveling body 1 is provided with an engine 4 whose power is transmitted to the input shaft via a mower transmission shaft 23 having a respective end provided with a universal joint 23a, 23b. As a result, the power transmission from the engine to the rotary mowing unit is simplified while the mown grass is disposed smoothly from the outlet duct 26.

  • Patent number: 7107745
Abstract: A trimmer wheeled accessory for a gas or electric powered line trimmer used to support the distal end of the trimmer pole during operation. The accessory includes an extension arm that is longitudinally aligned with the trimmer's main pole and selectively attached thereto via a first clamp. The distal end of the extension arm extends from the trimmer head. Attached to the distal end of the extension arm is a wheel assembly that supports the trimmer head at a constant elevation when cutting grass or weeds. The extension arm is sufficient in length so that the wheel accessory is located in front of the trimmer head. The extension arm may be rotated around the trimmer's main pole so that the wheel assembly may be used to support the trimmer head in both a horizontal or vertical alignment.

  • Patent number: 7104340
Abstract: A draft force sensor is provided for a coupling member coupled between a towing vehicle and a towed earth engaging implement, such as a scraper. The draft force sensor includes first and second bores extending through the coupling member. Each bore has a horizontal axis which extends perpendicular to a main fore-and-aft axis of the coupling member. The second bore is positioned above the first bore and spaced apart from the first bore. Each of the bores is surrounded by an outer cylindrical wall. Four electrical strain gauges are spaced apart and placed on the wall of each of the bores. A center line bisects an axis line which extends between the axes of the first and second bores. The axis of each bore is spaced apart from the center line by a distance which is less than a diameter of the bores. The strain gauges are connected electrically in a circuit which generates a draft force signal in response to draft forces applied to the coupling member.

  • Patent number: 7096653
Abstract: Yield monitor apparatus and method for a forage processing machinery are provided according to the invention. The yield monitor measures a forage yield by measuring a forage volume increment accumulation. In one embodiment of the invention, the yield monitor includes a volume increment accumulation measuring device generating a volume increment accumulation signal substantially related to a forage mass and a computer that receives the volume increment accumulation signal. The computer generates a yield amount based upon the accumulation signal, a forage processing machinery groundspeed, and forage processing machinery intake parameters. The yield monitor may generate a yield amount, with the yield amount capable of being stored and displayed to a forage processing machinery operator. Alternatively, the yield monitor may generate a groundspeed control signal that is used by the forage processing machinery to control a forage processing machinery groundspeed or other forage processing machinery parameters.

  • Patent number: 7040079
Abstract: A rake has two side members attached perpendicularly to the rake so as to form an H-shaped frame system. A swivelable wheel is mounted at each corner of the frame. The frame fully stabilizes the rake in a position approximately level with a ground surface as the rake is pulled across the ground by a tractor or other vehicle. The wheels are adjustable both vertically and horizontally by inserting or removing rings on a shaft holding each wheel, and by telescoping parts of the frame into each other. The invention is useful either as a combined rake/stabilizer system, or as a kit for retrofitting existing rakes.

  • Patent number: 7011579
Abstract: A crop chaffer for combines features air jets which deliver an air blast to the grain and chaff. The air jets and sifting screens are arranged in a cross sectionally “stair step” pattern in which the tread of each stair is the screen and the riser of the each stair has the air jet located thereon. The air jets do not allow grain passage, while the apertures in the screens do not produce a strong current of air. The chaffer is divided into individually separable and replaceable elements, thus greatly easing the burden of changing chaffers in the combine.

  • Patent number: 7007449
Abstract: An orientation system for vegetables includes a plurality of rotating rollers that both pull the vegetable into an inverted position, with leafy top down, and advance the vegetable along the length of the rollers to deliver the vegetables to a cutting system. The orientation system may be included in a vegetable harvester and topper or may be used separate from the harvester vehicle. The orientation system preferably has a plurality of orientation roller pairs, made up of first and second counter-rotating orientation rollers. These rollers may include strips of elastomeric fingers or other protrusions that engage the leafy top and pull it downward. Preferably, one of the rollers may also have a vegetable advancing spiral that moves the vegetables in “auger-style” by pushing the vegetables along in front of the rotating spiral.

  • Patent number: 7007415
Abstract: A method for controlling movement of a work tool includes the step of identifying a predefined digging boundary and determining the current position of the work tool. A control signal is generated to change the position of the work tool. A requested motion vector is determined for the work tool based on the control signal. A determined force is generated to apply to the work tool. It is based on the requested motion vector and has a normal component that is scaled to prevent the work tool from crossing the predefined digging boundary. One aspect is directed to a control system for a work tool on a work implement assembly.

  • Patent number: 7000338
Abstract: A device for selectively positioning a side wing relative to the side of a motor vehicle it is mounted on and to the adjacent road surface is disclosed. The device includes first and second longitudinal end members pivotally connected to the vehicle side and to a rearward end of the side wing about vertical axes; the front end of the wing is usually connected adjacent the front end of the vehicle. First and second elongate rams that are angularly positioned relative to one another are connected to the first and second end members. The first and second rams operate in parallel relative to each other for selective operation of the side wing from a position adjacent the vehicle side and away from the ground surface to a position in operative engagement with the road surface at an adjustable angle relative to the vehicle side.

  • Patent number: 6996961
Abstract: As crop materials are severed from the field, they pass through two successive pairs of counter-rotating conditioning rolls before being returned to the ground. The front rolls are preferably ribbed, metal rolls wherein the ribs of one roll are intermeshed with those of the other roll so as to crimp the stems of the crop materials as they pass between the rolls. The hard metal ribs also aggressively feed the materials rearwardly into the second set of rolls, which are preferably compressive surface rolls made of rubber or the like and provided with wide, intermeshed bars about their periphery. The tension mechanism for the rolls includes single-acting hydraulic cylinders that squeeze the rolls together to the extent permitted by adjustable stop structure used to set gaps between the rolls. In typical operations, the gap between the rear rolls is set to be considerably smaller than the gap between the front rolls.
