Abstract: A field emission device (100) includes an electron emitter structure (105) having a deuteride layer (108), which defines a surface (109) of electron emitter structure (105). Deuteride layer (108) is disposed upon an electron emitter (106), which is made from a metal. Deuteride layer (108) is a deuteride of the metal from which electron emitter (106) is made. A method for conditioning field emission device (100) includes the step of providing a contaminated cathode structure (137), which has a contaminated emitter structure (138). The method further includes the step of causing deuterium to react with a metal oxide layer (140) of emitter structure (138), so that the deuterium replaces the oxygen of metal oxide layer (140).

  • Patent number: 6573648
Abstract: A deflection yoke for deflecting electron beams of a color cathode ray tube includes a saddle type horizontal deflection coil, which has a front bend section and a neck bend section. The neck bend section includes a pair of openings in the winding distribution. Each of the openings is disposed at a disposition angle relative to a horizontal axis through the neck bend section of approximately ten degrees and at a predetermined distance from a center of the neck bend section within a range from approximately three millimeters to approximately fifteen millimeters. Each of the openings has a substantially triangular shape, trapezoidal or semicircular shape. A resulting XH and HCR mis-convergence curve of the deflection yoke of the present invention passes through the origin, thereby making it possible to simultaneously correct both XH and HCR mis-convergence to zero.

  • Patent number: 6570327
Abstract: The invention relates to an electric lamp (100) whose light source reaches a very high temperature during operation. It mainly relates to a lamp provided with a double envelope such that a fracture or a crack of the outer envelope (2) does not prevent the lamp (100) from functioning. The lamp is therefore provided with a safety cut-out wire (5) which allows the opening of the conduction path of the lamp in case of a fracture. To this end a safety-switch portion (6) is inserted in the safety cut-out wire (5). This portion is made of a material which opens the conduction path as soon as the safety-switch portion (6) comes into contact with air.

  • Patent number: 6570318
Abstract: A color cathode ray tube and a getter assembly for use in such a cathode ray tube. The getter assembly comprises a conducting strip for contacting a high-voltage contact with a magnetic screening cone inside a cone portion of the tube. Due to the relatively large deflection angle of modern cathode ray tubes with flat display screens, the getter assembly has to be made smaller. The getter assembly of the invention has a notch for directly engaging the high voltage contact. In case of reworking during the manufacturing process, an operator can slide the new getter assembly with the aid of a special tool, from the neck side along the inner wall for engagement with the high-voltage contact.

  • Patent number: 6570310
Abstract: A color CRT equipped with a slot type shadow mask is provided, which enables to reduce the moire phenomenon without deteriorating its vertical resolution. The color CRT contains a shadow mask having slots allowing selectively electron beams to arrive at the phosphor screen through the mask. Each of the slots has an vertically elongated shape. The slots are arranged horizontally at a fixed horizontal pitch, and vertically at a fixed vertical pitch. At least two vertically adjacent ones of the slots have a bridge area therebetween. Each of the bridge areas serves as an electron-beam stopping area. In addition, at least two horizontally adjacent ones of the slots are vertically shifted at a fixed value equal to or greater than a half of the vertical pitch. The electron beams are scanned perpendicular to the slots. The vertical pitch of the slots is set at a value ranging from 0.2 mm to 0.5 mm. • Patent number: 6566798
Abstract: A cathode ray tube includes a pair of plate members (7) facing each other, a pair of supporters (14) adhered to the respective plate members (7) to support the plate members (7), and a shadow mask (6) adhered to the respective plate members (7) while being applied with tensile force. The supporters (14) have crank-shaped steps (15) formed to protrude toward the shadow mask (6). Thereby, an internal moment of a shadow mask structure can be decreased, and thus, displacement of the shadow mask (6) in the axial direction is suppressed even when the shadow mask (6) is expanded by heat generated by impact of electron beams, and q-value deviation is suppressed as well. Moreover, since the crank-shaped steps (15) are helpful in blocking a transverse clearance with a ferrous material, the magnetic properties can be improved.

  • Patent number: 6563263
Abstract: A multi-colored organic EL device for a flat display includes a transparent substrate, a plurality of phosphor layers arranged on a surface of the substrate as a color conversion filter, a protective layer flatly coated on the phosphor layers, and an organic EL cell formed directly on the protective layer. The protective layer is formed of a coating resin having a curing temperature not to cause deterioration in the fluorescence of the phosphor layers, a glass transition temperature more than 100° C., and surface hardness more than 2H on the pencil hardness. The organic EL cell includes a light-emitting layer for emitting light when carriers are injected therein. The protective layer keeps the phosphor layers intact and can coat flatly over uneven phosphor layers. The protective layer prevents effects of post-coating processes on the phosphor layers, and allows direct formation of the organic EL cell on the protective layer.

  • Patent number: 6559577
Abstract: A pressure sensor-incorporating spark plug including a groove 17e for accommodating an output cable 27 formed on a side surface of a hexagonal portion 17a. A U-shaped member is bent into a tubular shape to obtain a fixing member 31. After the fixing member 31 and the output cable 27 passing through the fixing member 31 are placed in the groove 17e, the fixing member 31 is crimped in the direction of the arrow shown in FIG. 5(a), so that the fixing member 31 is deformed to fit the wall surface of the groove 17e. Thus, the output cable 27 is nipped by the fixing member 31, and the fixing member 31 is held within the groove 17e of the hexagonal portion 17a. As a result, the output cable 27 is fixed to the hexagonal portion 17a.

  • Patent number: 6559591
Abstract: A non-adhesive, conductive strip is used to provide an electrical ground path between a solder electrode on the anti-reflective film of a cathode ray tube and the reinforcement or heat shrinkage band on the tube. The conductive strip is preferably held in place on the cathode ray tube using a magnet or magnets. Consequently, because the conductive strip is held in place by magnets and is non-adhesive, it can be removed and replaced repeatedly during the testing of the solder electrodes and anti-reflective film without potentially damaging the solder electrode or degrading the performance of the conductive tape that is typically used as the ground path in a completed cathode ray tube.

  • Patent number: 6552486
Abstract: A front substrate and a back substrate are placed opposing each other separated by a discharge space. The front substrate is made of a semitransparent material such as a dark color glass with a mean transmittance for visible light of 60 to 80%. On the front substrate, a group of electrodes including pairs of scanning electrodes and sustaining electrodes covered with a dielectric layer and a protective coating are provided. Data electrodes and spacers are formed on the back substrate, and phosphors are provided on the data electrodes towards the side of the spacers. A front filter, which is made of a semitransparent glass sheet with a mean transmittance for visible light of 60 to 80%, is disposed on the front side of the front substrate. The present invention realizes a display with less halation and high contrast. Also, a detection rate of a defect in electrodes, which are formed on the front substrate, improves.
