Abstract: An input video stream may include primary video content, such as output from a first video game. An indication of a decrease in player activity in the first video game may be detected. A determination may be made, based at least in part on the indication of the decrease in player activity, to replace a portion of the primary video content with secondary video content. The decrease in player activity in the first video game may coincide with an increase in player activity in a second video game. An indication of this increase in player activity may be detected. The second video game may be selected, based at least in part on the indication of the increase in player activity, to provide the secondary video content. An output video stream is provided in which the selected portion of the primary video content is replaced by the secondary video content.

Abstract: The system generates a display providing storyline information. The display includes, for example, a plurality of storyline identifiers, a plurality of time period indicators, and a plurality of episode indicators. Episode indicators indicate an episode having a segment of the storyline corresponding to a storyline identifier. The system may receive a user input selecting a storyline, or further filtering an existing storyline to tailor the displayed information more closely to a storyline of interest. The system updates the display to each reflect segments within episodes corresponding to the selected storyline identifier. The display may include a grid, with the storyline identifiers arranged along one axis and the time period indicators arranged along a different axis. The system may process metadata to determine storylines, and filter what information is displayed based on user input, the metadata, or both. Storylines include, for example, characters, locations, plots, teams, players, or other attributes.

Abstract: Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a media server having a processing system including a processor; and a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processing system, facilitate sending a datastream to a display device. The datastream may include an identification thereof. Upon receiving the identification from a user, the media server associates the datastream with the user. The media server may send to the user, a listing of the media services to which the user has subscribed. Upon receiving, from the user, a selection of a selected media service, the media server streams the selected media service to the display device over the datastream. The datastream may be controlled with the user for as long as the media server detects the user in a vicinity of the display device. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Abstract: Methods, apparatus, systems and articles of manufacture are disclosed for watermark outage detection. Example methods include evaluating an onset time and duration of a detected watermark outage based on a model of expected watermark outages to determine whether the detected watermark outage corresponds to at least one of the expected watermark outages represented in the model. Example methods further include generating an alert in response to determining the detected watermark outage does not correspond to at least one of the expected watermark outages included in the model, and suppressing the alert in response to determining the detected watermark outage corresponds to the at least one of the expected watermark outages represented in the model.

Abstract: A method for replicating a media stream generated by a transmitter device. The method can include communicating world context generated at the transmitter device and processing the received world context. The generated world context is associable with description generated based on an application being run at the transmitter device. The generated world context can be based upon to generate the media stream in a manner such that description of the generated media stream can be associated with the description generated based the application being run. Processing of the received world context can be in a manner so as to replicate the media stream generated at the transmitter device. Description of the replicated media stream can correspond to the description of the media stream at the transmitter device. The received world context can be further processed in a manner so as to change the description associable with the replicated media stream.

Abstract: This disclosure describes systems, methods, and devices related to network resource management and content delivery. A method may include a first device determining a first bandwidth demand associated with a second device sending a first addressable advertisement using a data over cable service interface specification (DOCSIS) bandwidth using a first advertisement spot for a first linear segment addressability (LSA) television channel, and determining a second bandwidth demand associated with the second device sending a second addressable advertisement using the DOCSIS bandwidth for presentation using a second advertisement spot. The method may include determining that the first bandwidth demand is below a threshold bandwidth, and determining that the second bandwidth demand exceeds the threshold bandwidth.

Abstract: A method includes receiving, with a computing system, data representing a video item into a buffer. The method further includes outputting the video item from the buffer to a display system. The method further includes determining that utilization of the buffer falls below a predetermined threshold. The method further includes, in response to determining that the utilization of the buffer falls below the predetermined threshold, determining that there is a specified rebuffering point within a predetermined time frame. The method further includes pausing with the computing system, the video item at the specified rebuffering point in response to determining that there is the specified rebuffering point within the predetermined time frame.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and machine-readable media for adaptive content splicing with respect to content corresponding to a televised event are disclosed. First content may be received and may be determined to correspond to an event that is televised. One or more indicators of one or more state changes with respect to the event may be detected. A content composite may be created. An adaptable content item received from a first system may be processed. A content object re may be processed. The adaptable content item may be modified based at least in part on the content object to form the content composite. The creating the content composite may be a function of rules mapped to a current geolocation. Second content corresponding to the programming content may be received. The second content may be output for display in conjunction with the content composite.

Abstract: Correlated quality-of-experience (QoE) and latency measures are generated at a plurality of monitoring points along a multimedia delivery chain including multiple video operations. At each of the plurality of monitoring points, an absolute QoE measure defined on a human perceptual quality scale for media content is computed, and one or more of content extraction or feature extraction on the media content are performed. To a common middleware from each of the plurality of monitoring points, the respective QoE measure and results of the one or more of content extraction or feature extraction are transmitted. Computing and updating an absolute QoE measure for each of the plurality of monitoring points is performed. Computing and updating latencies between multiple monitoring points at the middleware using the results from each of the plurality of monitoring points is also performed.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for server-side manipulation of underlying video content in order to dynamically place overlay content within a video stream in a manner whereby a viewing user sees the advertisement content over or integrated within a portion of the base video content. Segments of the original video file may be modified by a server to display overlay content over a portion of the original content, and a revised manifest file may be generated by the server and sent to a client device. The revised manifest file may cause a video player on the client device to present in sequence (a) a first original portion of the video, (b) a second portion of the video modified to include overlaid advertisement content or other overlay content within the second portion, followed by (c) a third original portion of the video.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for sharing a user interface between users. The system transmits live video simultaneously to a plurality of users. Then, the system determines a subset of the plurality of users, such that the subset includes two users that have a predetermined relationship. Then, during playback of the video, the system detects an object in a frame of the video corresponding to preferences of the first user. In response, the system determines whether the second user is researching information related to the object during playback of the video. If the second user is researching such information, the system streams a mirror image of a user interface with which the second user is performing the researching to the first user.

Abstract: The disclosure provides for use of watermarking as a basis control abandonment of dynamic content modification. Upon detecting of the occurrence of a trigger event for causing a content presentation device to abandon a dynamic content modification with respect to a media stream being delivered to the content presentation device, an entity encodes into the media stream an abandonment-watermark interpretable by the content presentation device to cause the content presentation device to abandon the dynamic content modification. The content presentation device then detects the abandonment-watermark in the media stream being received by the content presentation device and in response to the abandonment-watermark, abandons the dynamic content modification.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for providing subtitles based on a user's language proficiency. An illustrative method includes receiving a request to display subtitles, selecting a language for the subtitles, determining, from a user profile, a user's proficiency level in the selected language, selecting, based on the user's proficiency level in the selected language, a set of subtitles from a plurality of sets of subtitles in the selected language, wherein each respective set of subtitles corresponds to a different proficiency level in the selected language, and generating for display the selected set of subtitles.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer readable media can be operable to facilitate an identification of a viewer based upon the proximity of an associated wireless device to an access point. An association between a wireless device, user, display device, and a position of the wireless device relative to an access point may be created and stored at the access point. The access point may monitor the position of the wireless device, wherein the position is based on the strength of a signal received from the wireless device at one or more receivers. When the access point determines that a position of the wireless device is associated with a display device, the access point may identify the user of the wireless device as a potential viewer of the display device. Targeted advertisements and set-top box functionality may be configured based on the identification of a viewer of the display device.
