    Abstract: A method and apparatus for centering two concentric cylinders having different diameters is the subject of the present invention. A linear reference line is projected from an illuminating source along the length of the inner cylinder. At the other end of the cylinder is a photo receiver operable to provide a displacement reading related to the amount of light striking the receiver. As the inner cylinder is rotated about its center point, the amount of light striking the photo receiver varies based on the amount of arcuate displacement present at each point of the cylinder. The photo receiver then converts the incoming light into a displacement reading related to the arcuate diplacement of the inner cylinder. The readings thus obtained are correlated with the points on the inner cylinder where they occurred to indicate the point and amount of maximum arcuate displacement. Thereafter, the outer cylinder is arcuately displaced a corresponding amount so that it will conform to the inner cylinder exactly.

    Abstract: A method for manufacturing a shoe for use, in a swash-plate type compressor, which shoe is to be inserted between a swash-plate and a ball for transmitting the motive power of the swash-plate to the piston related, wherein (1) a base material from which the shoe is made, is composed of steel and is on one side provided with a concavity having an annular groove inside; (2) an annular material of copper or other like metal, free from seizure when pressed against steel is put in the concavity before a male die with a projection of semispherical surface configuration is pressed thereinto; and (3) the concavity in the base material will then be deformed into a desired approximately semispherical configuration, while the annular material is spread under pressure between the projection and the base material of the shoe to cover the surface of the concavity to form a spherically deformed concavity. Shoes made in this way are highly resistant to high-speed operation, heavy-load, and impact.

By guiding an end portion of an electrical coil bar against the conical surface in a spiral configuration about the conical member's axis of rotation, the electrical coil bars may be caused to lie along a frusto-conical surface when assembled in the dynamoelectric machines. The frusto-conically shaped member has a plurality of radially extendible struts at one axial end thereof, a plurality of radially directed support members at the other axial end thereof, and a plurality of shaping ribs extending between the struts and support members.

    Abstract: A snap fastener attaching system employs a moveable carriage assembly which is controlled in linear motion by a belt system coupled to an actuator mechanism. The carriage assembly includes clamping means which are sequentially operated to clamp a garment on the assembly after emplacement by an operator. The depression of a start button enables the actuator to traverse a shaft. Associated with the actuator is a pivotable arm which is located in proximity to a selected shaft of a cam-containing turret assembly. As the actuator moves, the carriage moves proportionately due to the belt coupling system. Each time the actuator arm contacts a cam along the turret shaft, a fastener is emplaced on the garment by the snap fastener attaching machine associated with the carriage assembly. When the last fastener is emplaced, the apparatus is automatically returned to the starting position to enable accommodation of the next garment.
