Patent number: 6031891Abstract: A medical diagnostic imaging device (A) compensates for non-uniform line correlated noise generated in an image receptor (26). The image receptor receives x-rays transmitted from an x-ray source (12) and generates a raster line of image data. The image receptor includes an active area (30), a first reference zone (32) bounded on a first side of the active area, and a second reference zone (34) bounded on a second side of the active area opposite to the first side. The reference zones prevent image information from being received by corresponding pixels of the raster line. The outputs of a first plurality of raster line pixels corresponding to the first reference zone (32) are averaged, and the outputs of a second plurality of raster line pixels corresponding to the second reference zone (34) are averaged.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 1998Date of Patent: February 29, 2000Assignee: Picker International, Inc.Inventors: Pieter Gerhard Roos, Andrew J. Patent number: 6021173Abstract: An x-ray examination apparatus comprises an x-ray detector with a sensor matrix for deriving an image signal from an x-ray image. The x-ray detector is provided with a scatter grid having a regular pattern of x-ray attenuating partitions. The spatial resolution of the sensor matrix is such that the size of the smallest detectable detail in the x-ray image is larger than the distance between adjacent partitions. In particular the x-ray detector comprises an x-ray sensitive photoconductor layer for converting x-rays into electric charges, separate sensor elements include respective collecting electrodes and a semiconductor cladding layer being disposed between the photoconductor layer and the collecting electrodes. The semiconductor cladding layer has a substantial lateral electric conductivity. For example, the semiconductor cladding layer is a chlorine doped selenium layer, or a selenium, sulphur or telluride doped lead-oxide layer.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 1998Date of Patent: February 1, 2000Assignee: U.S. Philips CorporationInventors: Andreas Brauers, Rudolf Kemner, Ulrich Schiebel, Herfried K. Patent number: 6021175Abstract: An x-ray filter is used to permit higher intensity x-ray exposure to the upper thoracic spine while maintaining a normal level of x-ray exposure to the cervical spine. The resulting x-ray image allows a viewer to count the seven cervical vertebrae in order to identify the position of the first and second thoracic vertebrae. The filter is formed by a pair or mating blocks of x-ray absorbing material. The filter has a first region for absorbing x-ray radiation to decrease exposure of the cervical spine and has a second region with a V-shaped opening which allows higher x-ray transmission to the thoracic spine while reducing exposure on areas adjacent to the thoracic spine. The filter is formed by two shaped filter blocks which fit together to create the first and second regions. The edges of the filter blocks which form the V-shaped opening are beveled to create a generally trapezoidal exposure region which is aligned with the upper thoracic spine.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 1998Date of Patent: February 1, 2000Inventor: Daniel J. Patent number: 6011829Abstract: An x-ray tube includes an envelope defining an evacuated chamber in which an anode assembly is rotatably mounted to a bearing assembly and interacts with a cathode assembly for production of x-rays. The bearing assembly includes a bearing housing and a plurality of bearings disposed on an outer surface of the bearing housing. Patent number: 5987097Abstract: An X-ray tube assembly having a cathode, an anode, and an electrode surrounded by a vacuum-enclosing frame. Electrons from the cathode strike a target surface on the anode. Some electrons produce X-rays which exit an X-ray transparent window portion of the frame. Other electrons are backscattered and go on to strike and heat the frame including the window region. The non-electron-emifting electrode typically has a negative electrical potential and is positioned to deflect the backscattered electrons away from the window region which reduces heating thereto and hence minimizes tube failure.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 1997Date of Patent: November 16, 1999Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventor: Lembit Salasoo

Patent number: 5965897Abstract: A high resolution x-ray imaging device based on a storage phosphor layer. The storage phosphor layer is sandwiched between two arrays of electrodes. In one embodiment of the device, the arrays are orthogonal arrays of linear electrodes, one of the arrays being transparent to the phosphorescence emitted by the storage phosphor. To read a pixel of a latent image stored in the storage phosphor layer, a voltage difference is established between two crossed electrodes that exceeds the threshold voltage of the storage phosphor material. The emitted light is detected by a device such as a CCD array that has coarser resolution than the crossed electrode array: the resolution of the imaging device of the present invention is the electrode width. Preferably, the electrodes are addressed for activation by optical scanning of photoconductive strips adjacent and perpendicular to the electrodes.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 1998Date of Patent: October 12, 1999Assignee: X-Medica Ltd.Inventors: Valentin Elkind, Alexander Gurevich, Michael Kogan, Boris Volfson
