  • Patent number: 8323135
Abstract: The hollow plunger of a hydraulic tensioner for an engine timing chain protrudes from a tensioner housing in an oblique downward direction. An inner sleeve fixed to the housing slidably protrudes into the interior of the plunger, and has a ball check valve at its protruding end. Oil is supplied though the sleeve and the check valve to a high pressure oil chamber formed inside the plunger, and flows outward through a two-part leakage path formed by a gap between the sleeve and the interior of the plunger and a gap between the exterior of the plunger and an interior wall of a plunger-accommodating hole in the housing. Any air that enters the tensioner accumulates in a region surrounding the upper end of the sleeve, rather than in the high oil pressure chamber inside the plunger.

  • Patent number: 8317643
Abstract: A hydraulic tensioning system (1), which is used in traction mechanism drives, particularly chain drives of internal combustion engines, is provided. The tensioning system (1) includes a piston (3), which is designed in the shape of a crucible, subjected to a pressure by a pressure spring (8), guided in a linearly displaceable manner in a housing (2) and spring-loaded against a traction mechanism. Hydraulic fluid can flow out of a pressure chamber (5) depending on an actuating direction of the piston (3) via an overpressure valve (11) forming a damper and associated with the piston (3) or can enter via a one-way valve (7) of the housing (2) into the pressure chamber (5). The overpressure valve (11) encloses a valve plate (15) that is integrated in the piston (3), and a pressure spring (8) of the piston (3) surrounds an outside of the valve housing (12) of the overpressure valve (11).

  • Patent number: 8308099
Abstract: A seatbelt retractor includes an acceleration sensor. The acceleration sensor includes a sensor case having a supporting surface which is maintained horizontal. A self-standing inertia body whose bottom surface is placed on the supporting surface is installed inside the sensor case in a self-standing condition, and which tilts when a horizontal acceleration is exerted. An actuating member which, in accordance with a tilting movement of the self-standing inertia body, activates a lock mechanism to lock the extraction of the seat belt. An outer contour of a contact area where the supporting surface of the sensor case and the bottom surface of the self-standing inertia body are in surface contact is configured such that a distance from a center axis of the self-standing inertia body to the outer contour differ, in a horizontal plane, in a first direction and in a second direction orthogonal to the first direction.

  • Patent number: 8307952
Abstract: An elevator system (20) includes multiple elevator cars (22, 32) within a hoistway (26). Counterweights (24, 34) are associated with the respective elevator cars (22, 32) by load bearing members (40, 50). In some examples, different roping ratios are used for the load bearing members (40, 50). In some examples, the lengths of the load bearing members (40, 50) are selected to allow contact between the counterweights (24, 34) within the hoistway (26) and prevent contact between the elevator cars (22, 32). The difference in car and counterweight separation distances is greater than a stroke of a counterweight buffer plus an expected dynamic jump of the elevator cars. A disclosed example includes passages (80) through a portion of at least one of the elevator cars (22) for accommodating the load bearing member (50) of another elevator car (32) located beneath the elevator car (22) with the passages (80).

  • Patent number: 8297408
Abstract: A stabilizer for material handling equipment, includes a base mount for mounting to the material handling equipment, a main frame pivotally attached to the base mount, and a release lever and magnet housing pivotally mounted to the main frame. A biasing element holds the main frame in a disengaged position away from a metallic floor surface. The release lever can be addressed by a user to overcome the biasing element and rotate the magnet housing to an engaged position, so that magnets in the magnet housing engage the metallic floor surface, holding or anchoring the material handling equipment in place. In order to disengage the magnets from the metallic floor surface, the user forces the release lever in an opposite direction, prying the magnets from the floor surface, upon which the biasing element further rotates the main frame, removing the magnet housing from the proximity of the floor.
