  • Patent number: 5267416
Abstract: A multiple spring counterbalance includes a torsion spring and a tension spring for exerting a combined lifting force on a window sash. A spiral rod is threadably engaged with a follower nut for converting a torque applied by the torsion spring into a lifting force on the window sash. The spiral rod has a pitch that is varied along one part of its length to produce a substantially constant combined lifting force throughout most of a range of sash travel between a lowered position and an intermediate position. However, the pitch is further varied along another part of the length of the spiral member to produce a larger combined lifting force within a remaining portion of the range of sash travel from the intermediate position to the raised position.

  • Patent number: 5261712
Abstract: A latch mechanism attaches an access door to a frame. The frame has a horizontally extending ledge with an opening formed therein. A pin is rigidly attached to the frame spaced apart from the opening. A latch opening is formed in the access door. A lever is pivotally mounted on the pin and has an end which integrally forms a wedge-shaped latch member, and a part of the lever engages the frame to form a pivot axis about which the lever pivots. A spring is mounted on the pin and is biassed to hold the lever in a position wherein the latch member is received by the latch opening when the door is in a closed position. The lever is comprised of a flat metal strip including a bent portion which pivotally engages the frame and includes a first section which extends between the latch member and the pivot axis. The lever includes a second section which is positioned on the other side of the pivot axis and which is normally spaced apart from the frame.

  • Patent number: 5218839
Abstract: A jewelry setting for a gemstone which provides the illusion or otherwise simulates the appearance of a larger gemstone. The setting comprises a collar having an axial, cylindrical bore disposed therethrough. A V-shaped cut is formed in the surface of the cylindrical bore perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the collar. The collar is adapted to secure the gemstone for mounting. The apex of the V-shaped cut defines a circle substantially equivalent to the girdle of the gemstone and lies in a plane which is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the collar. The intersecting surfaces of the V-shaped cut are adapted to be adjacent a portion of the pavilion and crown of the gemstone. The upper surface of the collar uniformly circumscribes a segment of the crown of the gemstone and thereby permits display of the gemstone table and the uncovered portion of the crown.
