  • Patent number: 4911485
Abstract: A latching structure defined by a mount, a handle pivotally mounted to the mount and linked with a latch pin slidably mounted in the mount. The linkage between the handle and the latch pin includes first parallel links pivotally mounted to the handle and pivotally mounted to the latch pin. Second links are pivotally mounted to the first links and to a spring block slidably mounted on the latch pin. A spring is placed in compression between a shoulder on the latch pin and the spring blocks. Consequently, the linkage mechanism operates to actuate the latch pin with the handle and create an overcenter mechanism to bias the entire mechanism to either a fully opened position or a fully closed position. A gasket is provided on a flange associated with the handle to seal the latch mechanism when the mechanism is strongly biased by the spring into the closed position.

  • Patent number: 4909552
Abstract: A padlock-type security seal including a U-shaped shackle having a pair of reversely bend end portions. A body portion and a brightly colored insert are assembled to form a pair of chambers for receiving and locking the bent end portions. Movable tangs and matching cavities are formed as an integral part of the insert adjacent the chambers. The body portion has a plurality of transparent windows adjacent the cavities. Attempts to open the seal by deforming the shackle to remove the bent end portions from the chambers will result in moving the tangs into locking containment with the cavities thereby visually indicating tampering via the transparent windows.

  • Patent number: 4905333
Abstract: A spring interior comprising a plurality of longitudinally extending bands of springs disposed side by side and connected together by helical lacing wires in the top and bottom faces of the bands. Each band of springs comprises a single length of wire formed into a plurality of substantially vertical interconnected by interconnecting segments of wire coils of springs located alternately in the top and bottom faces of the bands. Each interconnecting segment comprises a longitudinally extending bridging portion and a transversely extending padding support structure. The padding support structure is angled upwardly away from the top face of the band and downwardly away from the bottom face of the band so as to impart initial softness and subsequent increased firmness to the spring interior when the spring unit is vertically compressed.

  • Patent number: 4902054
Abstract: A safety device for screen and storm secondary doors in which a movable rod is horizontally mounted on the door jamb proximate to the latch receiving mechanism. The closure of the inner or primary door urges the rod into position so as to disable the latching mechanism of the screen door. The opening of the primary door enables the rod to be withdrawn thereby permitting the secondary door to be opened.

  • Patent number: 4902051
Abstract: A rod end lock for latching heavy objects. The rod end lock has a barrel with a mounting end and a latch end. The latch end has a bite portion such that a keeper is secured at a location centered about the axis of the barrel. The mounting end is coaxial with the barrel and has the same centerline. A locking element is movably connected to the barrel and is biased in a closed position such that the locking element and the bite portion form an enclosed space therebetween for latching the keeper. The keeper is released by actuating the locking element to the open position thereby overcoming the bias to the closed position.

  • Patent number: 4885812
Abstract: A combination cot and backpack having first and second equal sized rigid frame sections which are hinged together at one end and pivot between a closed position to form a backpack and an open position to form an elevated cot. First and second sheets of flexible material are laced tautly between side portions of the first and second frame sections. A third frame section telescopes out from the second frame section to provide additional length for the cot. The third frame section is covered by a third sheet which unfolds from the second sheet and is held tautly by connectors underneath. The frame sections are made of tubular aluminum and have rigid downwardly extending u-shaped cross portions which provide legs for the elevated cot. Removable elongated storage pouches fit between the hinged frame sections in the closed position. A detachable carrying harness extends from a closure strap with a buckle which extends around the pack to hold it in the closed position.

  • Patent number: 4858260
Abstract: A multi-purpose patient support and transport apparatus is provided which includes a Trendelenburg mechanism and a novel guard rail assembly. The Trendelenburg mechanism is actuated by turning a handle in one direction. This allows a pneumatic spring connected between the seat and backrest assemblies to be fully contracted, thereby moving the backrest assembly to a Trendelenburg position. When the handle is turned in the opposite direction, the backrest may also be rotated downwardly, but is precluded from moving beyond the reclining position by a stop member which prevents the pneumatic spring shaft from moving entirely within the spring casing. The guard rail is mounted to the frame of the apparatus by a pair of pivot arms extending at an oblique angle with respect to the plane of the rail. This allows the rail to be stored under the frame when in the lowered position.

  • Patent number: 4853994
Abstract: A pillow book construction is disclosed formed of an inscribable, foldable cushion having a pair of spaced padded portions connected by a central unpadded portion. One or more inscribable unpadded sheet-like members are connected to the central portion of the cushion between the padded portions, and are disposed for pivotal movement between said padded portions. The cushion is foldable between an open configuration in which the padded portions are juxtaposed in side-by-side relation and a closed configuration in which the padded portions are disposed in overlying relation with the sheet-like members sandwiched therebetween. The construction is such that when the cushion is in its open configuration, the padded portions form the cover leaves of a book and the unpadded sheet-like members form the pages of a book. When the cushion is in its closed configuration, the book may be used as a cushioned pillow. A strap fastening arrangement serves to releasably retain the cushion in its closed configuration.
