  • Patent number: 4957587
Abstract: The apparatus has a strip support (12) which can be advanced in relation to gripping members (14) in order to pre-tension strip sections (6,8) against the clamping members. The clamping members feed, tension and weld the strip sections superimposed on the strip support (12). To improve feeding and tensioning and to avoid damage to the strip parts, the gripping members (14) are fixed to a link conveyor (48) which is guided over two guide wheels and from which at least one clamping member projects at the corresponding strip section (6).

  • Patent number: 4957570
Abstract: The invention relates to the butt-welding of pipes of plastics materials. Equipment is alreaady known where pipe ends are first urged against a trimmer plate, and then urged against a heater plate to create beads of a required size at the ends of the pipes, following which the pipe ends are urged into abutting relationship for welding to occur. Particularly with automatic machines employing hydraulic power, the force applied between the pipe ends and the heater plate and subsequently between the pipe ends needs to include an allowance for the drag factor inherent in the pipeline and compensate for any frictional effect in the mechanical and hydraulic moving components, and which is a difficult calculation.

  • Patent number: 4957581
Abstract: To prevent an end of a filled container, upon heating by a hot air for subsequent welding of edges thereof, from coming into contact and sticking to a retainer, a centering gas such as, for example, air is supplied from an external source to the container end. Edges of the filling opening of the container are heated by a hot gas for a subsequent closing of the same through a nozzle introducible into the filling opening of the container end. A centering fluid is directed at the end of the container with a component of flow of the centering in an axial direction of the container to provide for a contact-free centering of the container end.

  • Patent number: 4950350
Abstract: This invention relates to a labelling machine for bottles which includes a bottle feeding mechanism to feed the bottles to a revolving bottle support platform. The support platform directs bottles to a labelling mechanism and an application mechanism prior to their removal by a bottle withdrawing mechanism. The bottles are maintained against undesired rotation on the support platform by axial force on the top of each bottle to produce contact between the bottom of each bottle disposed on a support plate for each bottle turntable on the revolving bottle support platform. The support plate includes a base portion and upper surface element having an upper contour in a central region thereof. The upper contour matches the bottom of the bottle for receipt of the bottom therein. The upper surface element is removably mounted on the base portion of the support plate and includes features for centering the upper surface element and the upper contour thereof on the base portion of the support plate.

  • Patent number: 4944977
Abstract: A friction welded part having a sealed flash trap is disclosed, along with a method for producing such parts. The friction welded parts have a hollow cylindrical part and a second part to which the hollow cylindrical part is friction welded. There is an internal flash trap in the region of the weld, and the hollow cylindrical part is pinched inwardly or a conical flange on the flash trap is deformed outwardly so as to seal the flash collecting portions of the flash trap from the hollow portion of the hollow cylindrical part remote from the weld. The method involves the conventional steps of rotating the parts with respect to each other under pressure, stopping the rotation, and exerting high pressure to form the weld. In accordance with the invention, the hollow cylindrical part in the region adjacent the flash trap is then forced inwardly or a flange on the flash trap is forced outwardly so as to effect the seal.

The support platform directs bottles to a labelling mechanism and an application mechanism prior to their removal by a bottle withdrawing mechanism. The bottles are maintained against undesired rotation on the support platform by axial force on the top of each bottle to produce frictional contact between the bottom of each bottle and an elastic support plate for each bottle turntable on the revolving bottle support platform. The support plate includes an elastic body and several block-shaped friction bodies imbedded therein and distributed over its surface. The friction bodies have exposed contact surfaces, which lie in the plane of the exposed surface 13 of the elastic material. Such a support plate includes a long service life and capable of providing a high degree of friction between the micro-cracked bottom of a bottle and the friction bodies.

  • Patent number: 4938817
Abstract: Bonded seams for joining nonwoven, spunbonded polyolefin fabric to itself are prepared by overlapping of edge regions of the fabric with linen sides of the fabric in contact with one another and first applying heat and pressure along a seam line by means of ultrasonic energy and an embossed wheel, giving a lightly bonded strip. The strip is then folded against an adjacent surface, and heat and pressure are applied from the opposite side of the fabric and over the underlying folded-over strip. This procedure in effect merges the bond produced by the second application of heat and pressure with the first bond, giving a strong bond. Cleanroom and protective garments may be fabricated to include such seams, with the side of the seamed fabric that has a remaining cut edge at the seam being disposed on the inside of the garment. Such garments avoid release of microscopic particles such as occurs for stitched seams.
