  • Patent number: 8428522
Abstract: A method for performing outer loop power control in wireless communications is disclosed. A channel quality indicator (CQI) message is transmitted by a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU). The WTRU receives a power control command, the power control command being derived by: decoding the CQI message; computing a decision metric value for each symbol in the CQI message; determining whether the CQI message is erroneous; and counting a number of erroneous CQI messages, wherein the power control command is based on whether the number of erroneous CQI messages exceeds a threshold. An uplink transmission power of the WTRU is adjusted based on the power control command.

  • Patent number: 8396424
Abstract: A first wireless device is operable to perform role management of short-range wireless connections with other wireless devices over short-range wireless links that utilize a short-range wireless protocol, such as the Bluetooth protocol. According to one embodiment, the first wireless device accepts a request from a second wireless device to establish a connection over a short-range wireless link such that the first wireless device temporarily performs a slave role with respect to the connection. Responsive to establishing the connection, the first wireless device initiates a disconnect of the connection and then communicates a new request to the second wireless device to establish a new connection. Upon receiving an acceptance of the new request from the second wireless device, the first wireless device establishes the new connection over the short-range wireless link such that the first device performs a master role with respect to the new connection.

  • Patent number: RE44237
Abstract: A communications system network that enables secondary use of spectrum on a non-interference basis is disclosed. Each secondary transceiver measures the background spectrum. The system uses a modulation method to measure the background signals that eliminates self-generated interference and also identifies the secondary signal to all primary users via on/off amplitude modulation, allowing easy resolution of interference claims. The system uses high-processing gain probe waveforms that enable propagation measurements to be made with minimal interference to the primary users. The system measures background signals and identifies the types of nearby receivers and modifies the local frequency assignments to minimize interference caused by a secondary system due to non-linear mixing interference and interference caused by out-of-band transmitted signals (phase noise, harmonics, and spurs).
