Abstract: An RF system for reducing intermodulation (IM) products is disclosed. The RF system includes a first nonlinear element and a second nonlinear element, wherein the second nonlinear element generates inherent IM products and the first nonlinear element is adapted to generate compensating IM products. Alternatively, the first nonlinear element generates inherent IM products and the second nonlinear element is adapted to generate compensating IM products. The amplitudes of the compensating IM products are substantially equal to amplitudes of the inherent IM products. The RF system further includes a phase shifter that is adapted to provide a phase shift that results in around 180° of phase shift between the inherent IM products and the compensating IM products. The phase shifter is coupled between the first nonlinear element and the second nonlinear element.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for disabling the communication functionality (i.e., disabling the transmission and/or reception of RF signals) of an integrated device, while still providing access to the local functionality of such device. A control and select function, such as a switch that is implemented by hardware or software or a combination thereof, is provided in an integrated device to allow the end user of the device to access the local data processing functionality of the device, even while the wireless communication functionality of such device is disabled.
Abstract: A wireless communication system and constituent wireless communication devices are provided to implement a distributed, cognitive radio approach to spectrum sharing. Under the distributed approach, individual wireless communication devices self-enforce negotiated agreements on usage of an available spectrum without intervention from a centralized authority. Particularly, individual wireless communication devices are configured to enhance information rates of their respective transmissions under predetermined constraints. The predetermined constraints can include transmit power constraints (e.g., a maximum power available to the wireless communication devices), or interference constraints (e.g., constraints on the amount, direction, and/or quality of interference generated by transmissions).
Abstract: A plurality of training signal sets are transmitted. Each training signal set includes information sufficient to determine a channel estimate corresponding to a communication channel from a first station to a second station. A refined channel estimate is determined based on reception of the plurality of training signal sets.

Abstract: An approach is provided for customizing map presentations based on mode of transport. A map customizing platform determines a mode of transport with respect to a mapping service. The map customizing platform then selects one or more characteristics for rendering a map display of the mapping service based, at least in part, on the mode of transport and causes, at least in part, rendering of the map display based, at least in part, on the characteristics.
Abstract: A communications system includes spaced apart sensing nodes each configured to receive signals within occupied portions of a frequency spectrum, and a coordinator node configured to communicate with the spaced apart sensing nodes. The coordinator node determines the occupied portions of the frequency spectrum, and determines unoccupied portions of the frequency spectrum based upon the occupied portions. A pair of wireless communications devices is configured to communicate with each other and with the coordinator node. The pair of wireless communications devices may operate within an unoccupied portion of the frequency spectrum based on using a communications signal comprising a continuous phase modulated waveform, with at least one waveform parameter being selected to reduce interference with the occupied portions of the frequency spectrum.

Abstract: A method of performing a data transaction between a portable storage device and an electronic device includes determining positions of the portable storage device by a positioning module of the portable storage device, calculating distance between a current position and a position of a previous data transaction to determine whether a position-based criterion is met by a processing module, establishing a data connection between the portable storage device and the electronic device when the position-based criterion is met, and performing the data transaction between the portable storage device and the electronic device.
Abstract: Methods for enabling provision of data to be used in a performance analysis are provided. The communication device obtains an input to set up at least one rule within the communication device to be fulfilled in order to create at least one performance management counter to count occurrences of a performance management parameter related to the communication device. The communication device sets up the at least one rule and detects an impulse. The communication device determines if the at least one rule has been fulfilled. The communication device monitors data associated to the communication device if the at least one rule has been fulfilled, and creates the at least one performance management counter to count occurrences of the at least one performance management parameter based on the monitored data. A message including a result of the at least one performance management counter is transmitted to another device.
Abstract: A communication device is provided and includes: an electromagnetic-wave generating means for outputting an electromagnetic wave; and a transmitting/receiving means for transmitting data by modulating the electromagnetic wave in accordance with data as well as receiving data transmitted from the other device by demodulating the electromagnetic wave outputted by the electromagnetic-wave generating means or the electromagnetic wave outputted by the other device as the other party of communication, wherein the transmitting/receiving means transmits attribute information indicating communication ability of the device itself as well as receives attribute information indicating communication ability of the other device as the data, and the electromagnetic-wave generating means turns off the output of the electromagnetic wave for a given period of time after the transmission of the data based on the attribute information.
Abstract: A communication station, such as a base station or access point, has multiple backhaul options and distributes backhaul data between the available backhaul options. The communication station includes a transceiver for transmitting and receiving data with user equipments, multiple backhaul interface modules, and a backhaul distribution module arranged for monitoring demand for backhaul bandwidth and distributing data over the backhauls based on the demand for backhaul bandwidth. Additional modules for user data and control plane processing may be included with the user/control distinction used in distributing data over the backhauls. The backhaul options may include a preferred backhaul and an alternate backhaul. Distributing data over the backhauls may be based, for example, on applications associated with the data, financial cost, delay, robustness, computational resources, and/or additional security associated with using a particular backhaul.

Abstract: Disclosed is an enhanced system and method for bridging calls across telecommunications networks, including an illustrative application of the invention as it relates to international roaming among prepaid wireless subscribers. For instance, whenever wireless subscribers roam internationally they may invoke the system by keying in an Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) short code followed by the number to be dialed. Said subscriber's prepaid account is then decremented in real-time (until such account is fully depleted). A key feature of the disclosure generally is the bridging of the call legs between the wireless subscriber initiating the telephone communication and that of the receiving party through a series of general purpose databases and computers without requiring modifications to existing core network or handset infrastructure.

Abstract: Systems, methods, devices, and computer program products are described for adaptive clustering. Serving cells may receive measurement information from mobile devices, and may each form reporting sets including measurement information for various cells. A CoMP (coordinated multi-point) control unit may receive the measurement information from each of a number of serving cells. The received measurement information may be aggregated for a population of the mobile devices. Based on the aggregated measurement information, cell clusters may be formed to perform coordinated transmissions, each including a different subset of the cells. An indication of the determined cell clusters may be transmitted to respective cells.

Abstract: When a device in one wireless network receives interfering transmissions from an overlapping neighboring network, the neighboring network may be notified of the interference so that non-interfering schedules can be worked out. In one embodiment, the device receiving the interference may broadcast its own communications schedule. Device(s) in the interfering network may pick up that schedule, and pass it on to their controller, which can rearrange its own network schedule to be non-interfering. In another embodiment, the device receiving the interference may notify its own network controller with the pertinent information, and that controller may contact the controller of the interfering network to coordinate non-interfering schedules.
