  • Patent number: 9179296
Abstract: A short-range wireless network is established by direct communication between wireless devices and wireless access points. A wireless communication device provides initial registration information to a network and becomes a registered device. An API is downloaded to the wireless device to permit automatic authentication of the device for future communications. When a registered device enters a venue, at least one access point will automatically detect the wireless device and extract the necessary identification data to permit authentication of the device. Customized messages may be provided to the wireless device. If the wireless device enters a different venue, even in another city or state, the registration data may be automatically extracted by an AP and provided to a cloud network for authentication. Authenticated devices receive a list of authenticated vendors and unauthenticated vendors near the present location of the authenticated device.

  • Patent number: 9161253
Abstract: A method of throughput and data volume measurement for minimization of drive test (MDT) is proposed. A base station establishes a radio resource control (RRC) connection with a user equipment (UE) in a mobile communication network. The base station or UE measures transmitted or received data volume during a transmission time of a data burst between the base station and the UE. When the data burst spans multiple measurement periods and the data burst is split at each measurement period boundary. For each measurement period, data volume during the measurement period is measured to generate a measurement result. When throughput measurement is performed by the network, the base station receives location information that is available during the transmission time of the data burst. The data volume measurement is logged with time stamp such that each measurement result can correlated with the location information.

  • Patent number: 9154972
Abstract: A wireless electronic device may be provided with antenna structures. The antenna structures may be formed from an antenna ground and an array of antenna resonating elements formed along its periphery. The antenna resonating elements may be formed from metal traces on a dielectric support structure that surrounds the antenna ground. The electronic device may be tested using a test system for detecting the presence of manufacturing/assembly defects. The test system may include an RF tester and a test fixture. The device under test (DUT) may be attached to the test fixture during testing. Multiple test probes arranged along the periphery of the DUT may be used to transmit and receive RF test signals for gathering scattering parameter measurements on the device under test. The scattering parameter measurements may then be compared to predetermined threshold values to determine whether the DUT contains any defects.

  • Patent number: 9131035
Abstract: A variety of haptic improvements useful in mobile devices are detailed. In one, a smartphone captures image data from a physical object, and discerns an object identifier from the imagery (e.g., using watermark, barcode, or fingerprint techniques). This identifier is sent to a remote data structure, which returns data defining a distinct haptic signature associated with that object. This smartphone then renders this haptic signal to the user. (Related embodiments identify the object using other means, such as location, or NFC chip.) In another arrangement, haptic feedback signals social network information about a product or place (e.g., the user's social network friends “Like” a particular brand of beverage). In yet another arrangement, the experience of watching a movie on a television screen is augmented by tactile effects issued by a tablet computer on the viewer's lap.

  • Patent number: 9100088
Abstract: A signal processing circuit, which is within a satellite reception assembly, may be operable to analyze actual frequency information corresponding to a plurality of downconverted signals. Each of the downconverted signals may be downconverted using one or more corresponding local oscillators (LOs). Based on the analyzing, one or more of the following may be determined: one or more frequency offsets associated with the one or more corresponding LOs and one or more actual guard bands. The signal processing circuit may generate information on the determined frequency offsets and the determined actual guard bands. The signal processing circuit may perform, based on the generated information, one or both of a band stacking operation and a channel stacking operation so as to prevent channels/bands being stacked on each other or being overlapped. The signal processing circuit may perform, based on the generated information, frequency corrections for channel tuning in a gateway.
