  • Patent number: 8954016
Abstract: A method, in the case of which it is monitored in a wireless adapter connected to a field device whether, in the context of communication with the field device, a status change of the field device is being reported. In case a status change has been reported, the wireless adapter queries for expanded status information of the field device. The expanded status information is transmitted event-controlled from the wireless adapter to a superordinated communication unit and provided through such to an evaluation tool, in case a comparison of the expanded status information with a status pattern adapted specifically for the field device shows that the relevant, expanded status information should be evaluated.

  • Patent number: 8918050
Abstract: A user can initiate the transmission of data on a mobile device by making physical contact with another device. The physical contact can be any type of physical touch that is referred to as a “tap” or “tapping.” When a tap is detected by a device, the device may initiate near field communication (NFC) with the other tapping device. NFC may be used to communicate data between the two devices, or NFC may be used to exchange sufficient information to allow the devices to establish a communication channel via another communication link. In some embodiments, an NFC-enabled mobile device can be used to gather group data relating to users having mobile devices that are within NFC range of one another and which initiate the aggregation of group data by the tapping of three or more devices.

  • Patent number: 8909169
Abstract: A single pole double throw (SPDT) switch is fabricated on an integrated circuit (IC) and may comprise two radio frequency (RF) switching devices each having a separate DC blocking capacitor coupled between respective RF switching devices and a common node. A DC connection is provided between the two RF switching devices with a thin electrically conductive line. This thin electrically conductive line provides for increased isolation between the two RF switching devices and decreased insertion loss. The increased isolation and/or decreased insertion loss is accomplished by tuning the thin electrically conductive line through the characteristic impedance of the line when impedance matching conditions are met. Undesired circuit resonance(s) in the SPDT switch may be substantially reduced by using two or more thin electrically conductive lines that further reduce the thin electrically line(s) inductance.

  • Patent number: 8897829
Abstract: One aspect provides a method of controlling transmit power in a wireless device, wherein a desired transmit power is determined as a result of detection of a receive signal parameter. The method comprises detecting a desired maximum transmit power and generating a sequence of attenuation factors. The sequence is generated by monotonically increasing a variable at a controlled rate between a starting value and the maximum transmit power. The method further comprises using each attenuation factor in turn to: (a) reduce the measured value of the received signal power; and (b) reduce a determined desired value of the transmit power, where the transmit power is continually reduced as the variable is increased.

  • Patent number: 8886180
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for storing, manipulating, retrieving, and forwarding state, e.g., context and other information, used to support communications sessions with one or more end nodes, e.g., mobile devices, are described. Various features are directed to a mobile node controlling the transfer of state from a first access node to a second access node during a handoff operation thereby eliminating any need for state transfer messages to be transmitted between the second access node and the first access node during handoff. Other features of the invention are directed to the use of a core network node to store state information. State information stored in the core node can be accessed and used by access nodes in cases where a mobile node does not send a state transfer message during a handoff, e.g., because communication with the first access node is lost or because such messages are not supported.

  • Patent number: RE45302
Abstract: A communications system network that enables secondary use of spectrum on a non-interference basis is disclosed. Each secondary transceiver measures the background spectrum. The system uses a modulation method to measure the background signals that eliminates self-generated interference and also identifies the secondary signal to all primary users via on/off amplitude modulation, allowing easy resolution of interference claims. The system uses high-processing gain probe waveforms that enable propagation measurements to be made with minimal interference to the primary users. The system measures background signals and identifies the types of nearby receivers and modifies the local frequency assignments to minimize interference caused by a secondary system due to non-linear mixing interference and interference caused by out-of-band transmitted signals (phase noise, harmonics, and spurs).
