Abstract: Systems and methods are described for managing communications of an access node and a relay node. Data may be communicated between an access node and a plurality of wireless devices over a first frequency band. Data may also be communicated between the access node and a relay node over the first frequency band, where the relay node may communicate with wireless devices over a second frequency band. It may be determined that a utilization of the second frequency band meets a criteria. Data may then be communicated between the access node and at least one of the plurality of wireless device over the second frequency band based on the determination that the utilization of the second frequency band meets the criteria.

  • Patent number: 9560549
Abstract: The present disclosure is directed at systems, methods and media for relieving RAN congestion in a core network. In some embodiments, RAN congestion information is reported from user equipment to a packet data gateway (PGW) through an eNodeB and a software gateway. The PGW can aggregate the RAN congestion information and periodically notify other network nodes, for example, a PCRF, about the aggregate congestion in a network. By aggregating RAN congestion information, the PGW can substantially reduce the signaling required to report RAN congestion in the core network.

  • Patent number: 9554347
Abstract: A method and system for measuring end-to-end processing delay of the RE between an input interface and a transmit port in the downlink direction and a receive port and an output interface on the uplink direction is disclosed. The method and system if for use in a radio equipment node (RE) connected to a radio equipment control node (REC). Once the downlink and uplink radio channels are activated at a predetermined carrier frequency, a chirp sine wave is added at the input interface and the receive port such that the chirp sine wave becomes mixed with the carrier frequency. Sampling of a received downlink mixed signal is done at the transmit port and of the received uplink mixed signal at the output interface. The sampled mixed signals are then cross-correlated with a reference chirped sine wave to obtain a signal phase shift which is then converted to obtain a time delay associated with the end-to-end processing delay of the RE.

  • Patent number: 9553687
Abstract: A system for transmitting data using orthogonal mode division multiplexing (OMDM), a multiplexing method derived from the orbital angular momentum of photons. In one embodiment, a transmitter transmits multiple superimposed radio frequency (RF) beams each independently modulated with data, and each with a different orbital angular momentum rotational state. An OMDM receiver receives the different rotational states in separate communications channels. The OMDM states are substantially orthogonal, providing independent data channels for increased data capacity, and providing privacy.

  • Patent number: 9538550
Abstract: A first cell determines that UE(s) should have HARQ cycle(s) skipped, where each of the UE(s) is to take part in a CoMP transmission. Skipping is to be performed to enable the first cell to receive information from second cell(s) over backhaul link(s) for the HARQ transmission(s). A first HARQ cycle is scheduled and participated in for the UE(s) in order to receive a transmission at the first cell from the UE(s). The HARQ cycle(s) is/are skipped for the UE(s) by sending, prior to decoding information from the uplink CoMP transmissions, an acknowledgement to the UE(s) and not scheduling the UE(s) for a PDCCH grant for the HARQ cycle(s). The skipping depends on one or more of: a backhaul latency, a load in the first cell, a type of UE, or a request to the second cell(s). Apparatus and program products are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 9521700
Abstract: Control of transitions between radio resource control, RRC, states for a wireless terminal in a radio access network is described. The radio resource control states comprise a first state and a second state. A calculation (702) is made of a prediction of an inter-arrival time, ITB, between data bursts to be handled. A detection (704) that a data burst is to be handled is done and then it is decided (706) whether to make a transition from the first state to the second state essentially immediately and upon termination of handling of the detected data burst if the prediction of the ITB is greater than a current ITB threshold. The current ITB threshold is a time interval that is depending on a function of RRC state transition costs and the fractional distribution of true predictions and false predictions of a plurality of predicted ITB values in relation to recorded ITB values.

  • Patent number: 9516591
Abstract: Methods for enhanced UE data transmission for power consumption optimization are disclosed. A UE detects UE conditions and determines a UE traffic characteristic. The UE performs power consumption optimization based on the traffic characteristic. In one novel aspect, based on the UE condition, the UE determines that the traffic characteristic is low priority traffic or mobile originated only traffic. In one embodiment, the UE aligns prescheduled low priority data transmission with mobility management messages, or group multiple low priority prescheduled data transmission together. In another embodiment, the UE reduces NAS retry process upon detecting application triggered low priority traffic. In another embodiment, the UE turns off RF module until next data transmission for MO only traffic. In another novel aspect, the UE detects and sends UE conditions to the network. The network determines a UE traffic characteristic and performs power consumption optimization accordingly.

  • Patent number: 9515752
Abstract: This invention relates to a method for mapping Wi-Fi fingerprints in a given geographical area. A user, provided with a receiver, sequentially collects Wi-Fi signal strength measurements by moving along the path thereof, with each measurement being constituted by a vector of RSS levels received from the various Wi-Fi access points. A graph that is representative of the path is determined from the sequence of measurements. Thanks to a geometric model of the area, a topographical characterization of the path is carried out on the basis of the previously obtained graph. The positions of the various measurements of the sequence are provided by the topographical characterization and stored with said measurements in a database.

  • Patent number: 9509469
Abstract: User equipments can achieve quick channel synchronization when establishing a connection to base stations transitioning from a sleep mode to an active mode by using discovery resource signal (DRS) processing results and cell reference signal (CRS) processing results to establish channel synchronization with a CRS antenna port. More specifically, the user equipment may be notified that the CRS antenna port and DRS antenna port are quasi-co-located (QCL), and then use DRS processing results in conjunction with CRS processing results to obtain faster channel synchronization with a CRS antenna port. This may be particularly beneficial when the target BS is transitioned from a sleep mode to an active mode in order to accept a handover of the user equipment.
