Abstract: In order to make it more difficult to obtain numbers that can be used to conduct fraudulent transactions, a portion of a real account number is encrypted. The encrypted portion of the account number is used to generate a new account number, a new expiration date, and a new verification value. This information can be determined using processor that may reside in a point of sale terminal, a smart card, or a computer operated by a user. The new account number, the new expiration date, and the new verification value can be used in a payment transaction. A server computer in a central payment processing network may determine that the new account information is not the real account information, and may subsequently generate a modified authorization request message using the real account information and may send it to an issuer for approval. The transmission of data is more secure, since real account information is not sent from the merchant to the payment processing network.

Abstract: A playback device includes a port configured to receive content from an external memory device, a device memory residing in the device, and a controller programmed to execute instructions that cause the controller to read a read data pattern from the defined region in the external memory device and determine if the read data pattern correlates to an expected data pattern to a predetermined level, wherein the expected data pattern is derived at least in part from a defect map of the defined region.

Abstract: Introduced here are computer programs and associated computer-implemented techniques for guaranteeing a cardholder her reward for using a specialized payment card to complete a transaction based on the price of an asset when the transaction actually occurs. Acting as a digital safeguard, the technology ensures that a platform responsible for disbursing the asset will be able to account for ineligible transactions. The technologies described herein may allow the cardholder to benefit from having her reward invested in a lower risk manner. Moreover, these technologies may allow the cardholder to benefit from gains in the value of the asset over the course of a payment cycle in contrast to conventional loyalty programs.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for playing back a media content instance is disclosed. The method permits the use of downloadable variants to upgrade or change cryptographic functions performed by the playback device, thus permitting content protection schemes to be renewed.

Abstract: A method for secure decryption may include receiving encrypted transaction data associated with a transaction from a first computing device. The encrypted transaction data may be encrypted using a first public key and may include a transaction type identifier and a device identifier. A first decryption technique may be selected based on the type of the transaction. A first private key identifier may be retrieved from a database based on the first decryption technique and the device identifier. The first private key identifier and the encrypted transaction data may be communicated to a key vault. Decrypted transaction data associated with the transaction may be received from the key vault. First transaction data based on the decrypted transaction data may be communicated to the first computing device. A system and computer program product are also disclosed.

Abstract: A method for the transmission of data to a magnetic read head of a payment terminal. The method is implemented by an electronic device capable of generating a magnetic field representative of an encoding of the data to be transmitted, and the transmission of the data includes a plurality of emissions of a same sequence of standardized data. The standardized data is data representative of a payment means and is formatted according to the ISO/IEC 7813 standard. The method further includes transmitting secondary data that are emitted between two successive emissions of the sequence of standardized data.

Abstract: One embodiment includes a display system for use on the exterior of a vehicle having a display, a vehicle speed sensor, and a processor coupled to the vehicle speed sensor. The processor is configured to implement one of three operational modes of the display system based on the speed and state of the vehicle: a first operational mode, wherein a first content, including identification and/or registration information of the vehicle is rendered on the display at a first power consumption level; a second operational mode, wherein a second content, including a message, identification and/or registration information of the vehicle, is rendered on the display; and a third operational mode, wherein content is rendered on the display at a second power consumption level less than the first power consumption level.

Abstract: This invention discloses a novel system and method for distributing electronic ticketing such that the ticket is verified at the entrance to venues by means of an animation or other human perceptible verifying visual object that is selected by the venue for the specific event. Tins removes the need to use a bar-code scanner on an LCD display of a cell phone or other device and speeds up the rate at which human ticket takers can verify ticket holders.

Abstract: Disclosed is a system and method for integrating email, SMS, and social media based transactions with interactive television or standard cable with Internet access to make payments. Disclosed is a method to tie together a vendor and a cable provider with an e-commerce system leveraging each entity's customer information to streamline the payment process. Also disclosed are multiple methods to allow customers to make messaging based payments via interactive cable television features. The messaging allows for payments based on various levels of convergence between Internet and cable television experiences.

Abstract: A method and system for electronically annotating an image, or preferably, specific portions of an image, with information. In one aspect, a user may generate an image, annotate the image, and upload or otherwise disseminate the annotated image to a web page or the like. Annotations are provided as labels that provide information about the image or items therein. Further users may access the labels to access the information. The labels further enable searching and contextual advertising.

Abstract: A method of generating content information that matches at least one stored keyword is described. At least one keyword associated with content information is stored. At least one previously searched keyword in a search record is matched with the at least one stored keyword associated with the content information. First-category mapping data is generated based on a first mapping between the matched at least one stored keyword and the at least one previously searched keyword. Second-category mapping data is generated based on the content information and the at least one stored keyword. A received target keyword is determined to be included in the first-category mapping data. In response to the received target keyword, which is included in the first-category mapping data, circuitry of a terminal searches for the content information associated with the target keyword in the second-category mapping data and displays the content information.

Abstract: A store low-stock item reporting and promotion system may include a remote device to be carried by a shopper when shopping within a store and may be configured to acquire an image associated with an item. The system may include a server configured to obtain the image from the remote device, identify the item based upon the image, and determine a low-stock condition for the item based upon the image. Upon determining the low-stock condition, the server may generate a low-stock notification and communicate the low-stock notification to another device, and generate a digital promotion and communicate the digital promotion to the remote device.

Abstract: An online advertising system provides a user interface that allows the majority of advertisers to receive an “instantaneous” decision on their ad as soon as it is created. Instead of starting the ad review process after the advertiser submits the full ad for review, each ad component and existing combination of ad components is reviewed when it is entered into the ad creation form. This method allows the system to begin time-consuming aspects of the ad review (i.e., crawling the landing page, analyzing image features) while the user is still spending time on creating the ad.

Abstract: A campaign server is disclosed which includes a multi-level queue architecture that isolates campaign processing from the delays and inconsistencies of target population information retrieval and a data streaming service system with latency and error remediation measures are disclosed, where the campaign server and the data consumption system can be part of a consolidated system. The data consumption system may include various components to process one or more offers to one or more customers and component configured to detect an error associated the preparation of the errors and/or ii) initiate a retry attempt to process the one or more offers, and/or storing an instruction in a storage component of the streaming data system to permanently prohibit an attempt to generate the one or more offers at a subsequent time if the retry attempt expires without processing the one or more offers.

Abstract: Auto-detecting an electronic shopping basket and auto-completing offer redemption codes on the shopping basket webpage. When the user selects an item to add to the shopping basket, the shopping basket webpage loads. A plug-in detects a load event and communicates that information to an offer system. The offer system reviews the information, identifies the merchant, and determines offer codes applicable to a purchase. The offer system communicates the offer code to the plug-in, which auto-completes the code on the electronic shopping basket. The user completes the online transaction and the merchant provides a notification of completed transaction webpage. The plug-in detects a load event for the completed transaction webpage and communicates information regarding the load event to the offer system. The offer system reviews the information, identifies the offer code previously transmitted for auto-completion, marks the offer code as redeemed, and calculates the redemption rate of the transmitted offer code.

Abstract: A system and method for digital space estate management and content distribution is described. This system and method is comprised of an allotted number of time slots of fixed or variable duration, which are analyzed as digital space estates and devoted to content distribution. This system is configured to provide a web service portal which allows users to view available digital space estates, and either purchase them for a fixed price or variable price by proposing a higher acquisition offer amount than potential other users who have submitted offers on the same digital space estate. The system is further configured to utilize attributes of time slots and digital display nodes to recommend time slots to users. The system is configured to allow users to resell acquired digital space estates to other users.

Abstract: Payment systems allowing credit and/or points to fund financial transactions are provided. In one example, a payment system comprises a credit device issued to a consumer enabling the consumer to purchase products or services from a plurality of merchants using funds from a credit account associated with the consumer. The payment system comprises a payment network enabling the plurality of merchants to receive payment from an issuer that issues the credit device to the consumer. A funding device is configured to access information regarding credit available from the credit account, the funding device further configured to access information regarding points available to the consumer. The funding device is configured to use pre-established rules to determine the use of available credit and available points for completing a transaction with a first merchant of the plurality of merchants. The transaction appears to the first merchant as a regular credit card transaction.
