Abstract: Aspects of the invention provide a system and method for effecting a transfer of goods in a transaction. Mobile communication devices held by parties to a transaction deliver geographic location information to a server, which coordinates data, including verification token data broadcast by one of said devices, so as to authenticate the identities of the parties to the transfer once the parties or devices are within a specified short-range to conduct said transfer.

Abstract: A customer uses a mobile device to acquire a mobile app thereon. The mobile device is configured by a cloud-based service to escrow one or more card numbers mapped by a financial facility to the customer's primary account's number. Further security limitations can be configured into the mobile app by the cloud-based service. Subsequently, the customers uses the mobile app at a point-of-sale location to access one or more of the escrowed card numbers to make purchases; these purchases can be made while the mobile device lacks any connectivity to a network.

Abstract: A user action associated with a content item performed by a target user is detected. Information describing online publishers that delivered the content item to the target user is retrieved. For each publisher, a likelihood that the user action would have occurred without the publisher's delivery of the content item to the target user is determined. An estimated increase in the likelihood that the user action occurred due to the publisher's delivery of the content item to the target user is determined. A baseline value indicating a likelihood that the user action would have occurred without delivery of the content item to the target user by any publishers is estimated based on attributes for the target user. A performance metric is determined for each publisher, wherein ratios of the metrics are scaled based on the baseline value and are related based on corresponding ratios of the estimated increases in likelihoods.

Abstract: A system and method for usage-based application licensing in a hypervisor virtual execution environment. In accordance with an embodiment, the system comprises one or more computers, each with a hypervisor operating thereon and forming a hypervisor environment, together with one or more virtual machine images executing within that hypervisor environment. Each hypervisor aggregates usage statistics by each image instance for physical resources, and reports the statistics to a management framework. The management framework uses the statistics to ensure the system is adequately licensed with usage units. An initial allocation of usage units is recorded in the image and accessed during execution by the hypervisor. As the usage units near expiration, the hypervisor can signal that a particular image is about to become unlicensed. The management framework can then either allocate more usage units, shut down the image, or audit the unlicensed usage for later compensation.

Abstract: In order to make it more difficult to obtain numbers that can be used to conduct fraudulent transactions, a portion of a real account number is encrypted. The encrypted portion of the account number is used to generate a new account number, a new expiration date, and a new verification value. This information can be determined using processor that may reside in a point of sale terminal, a smart card, or a computer operated by a user. The new account number, the new expiration date, and the new verification value can be used in a payment transaction. A server computer in a central payment processing network may determine that the new account information is not the real account information, and may subsequently generate a modified authorization request message using the real account information and may send it to an issuer for approval. The transmission of data is more secure, since real account information is not sent from the merchant to the payment processing network.

Abstract: Disclosed embodiments relate to performing an advertisement campaign filtering process while protecting the privacy of both an advertiser and a user of a personal computing device. Techniques include maintaining a plurality of sets of advertising competition rules, the plurality of sets of advertising competition rules being associated with a plurality of discrete advertising campaigns; for a set of advertising competition rules from the plurality of sets of advertising competition rules: identifying advertisement targeting criteria associated with the set of advertising competition rules, differentiating, from within the advertisement targeting criteria, between advertisement-sensitive targeting criteria and advertiser-insensitive criteria, and transforming the advertisement-sensitive sensitive targeting criteria; and transmitting, to the personal computing device, at least a portion of the transformed advertisement-sensitive targeting criteria.

Abstract: The systems and methods are directed to identity resolution service (IRS) which may be used to enable accurate and faster conversion contribution analysis across multiple channels. IRS may be responsible for keeping track of relationships between user identifiers and for determining a user canonical identifier given a set of input identifiers and identity mappings. Users may utilize multiple devices and browsers to view advertisements and perform actions that result in conversion events. Users may be anonymous on one device but logged in and recognized on a different device and/or browser. The canonical identifier associated with a user may be used to obtain a full set of conversion events generated by the user and the full set of ad traffic to which the user was exposed. Conversion attribution analysis using the full set of conversion events and full set of ad traffic will result in accurate conversion rates for advertisers.

Abstract: Mobile devices and servers that securely manage transactional history for targeted content are described. A content originator generates a secure content package for the targeted content and delivers the package to a trusted service manager (TSM). The TSM delivers the package to a first mobile device. The first mobile device presents the package for redemption and/or transfers the package to one or more additional mobile devices. Prior to presentment or transfer, the first mobile device updates a secure history container of the package to include a unique identifier of the first mobile device and a corresponding authentication token. When the package is presented for redemption, the TSM validates the package and authenticates the secure history container. The TSM delivers the authenticated secure history container to the content originator as a record of the redemption.

Abstract: Methods and arrangements for processing face-to-face mobile phone transactions. An agreed-upon price for a product is accepted from a buyer mobile phone and a seller mobile phone. Distinct random numbers are assigned to each of the buyer and seller mobile phones. The random number assigned to the seller mobile phone is received from the buyer mobile phone, and the random number assigned to the buyer mobile phone is received from the seller mobile phone. A match is ascertained between the buyer and seller mobile phones based on receipt from the buyer mobile phone the random number assigned to the seller mobile phone and receipt from the seller mobile phone the random number assigned to the buyer mobile phone.

Abstract: A coupon clearinghouse server receives a request for a coupon offer from a client device. The server transmits only a first subset of coupon offer data for the coupon offer to the client device, and stores, in memory, a first code for a first merchant at which the coupon offer is redeemable. The code is not revealed to the client device. Subsequently, the server receives, from the client device, a second code that the client device has obtained at a point of sale system. The server determines if there is a match between the first code and the second code, and if so, transmits the second subset of coupon offer data including coupon offer redemption instructions to the client device. The client device presents the now complete coupon offer to the point of sale system to redeem the coupon offer.

Abstract: A playback device includes a port configured to receive content from an external memory device, a device memory residing in the device, and a controller programmed to execute instructions that cause the controller to read a read data pattern from the defined region in the external memory device and determine if the read data pattern correlates to an expected data pattern to a predetermined level, wherein the expected data pattern is derived at least in part from a defect map of the defined region. A memory device includes an array of memory cells configured to store at least one bit of data, the array of memory cells being organized into regions, at least one first region of the array of memory cells having stored therein a defect map of the array of memory cells, and at least one second region of the array of memory cells being designated as a defined region having a known defect pattern.

Abstract: Media objects are transformed into active, connected objects via identifiers embedded into them or their containers. A decoding process extracts the identifier from a media object and possibly additional context information and forwards it to a server. The server, in turn, maps the identifier to an action, such as returning metadata, re-directing the request to one or more other servers, requesting information from another server to identify the media object, etc. The linking process applies to broadcast objects as well as objects transmitted over networks in streaming and compressed file formats.

The method includes accessing, by a media selection component executing on a first computing device, an identification of a type of media preferred by a user local to a second computing device. Abstract: The utility of a portable consumer device is extended by allowing account holders the ability to gain entry into access-controlled venues (e.g., baseball or soccer game, cinema, public transit) using a portable consumer device that is associated with an account that was used to purchase the admission or tickets to the event at the access-controlled venue. Techniques disclosed allow cardholder authentication in a non-payment setting that enables cardholders access to a location or a specific event. A first validation cryptogram is generated in the purchase cycle and is stored. A second validation cryptogram is generated in the validation cycle at the venue. If the second validation cryptogram matches the first validation cryptogram, the consumer is granted access. Validation cryptograms may be based on input data that is specific to the payment card holder (e.g., primary account number), specific to the ticket selling merchant (e.g., merchant identifier), specific to the event (e.g.

Abstract: An advertising simulation system performs simulation of advertising results. The advertising results indicate the results of a simulated auction for a set of ad queries that are provided advertisements from available advertisements. The simulated auction applies an advertising model to perform an auction using advertising conditions. As advertisers are selected to provide advertisements to individual ad queries, advertising conditions, such as advertiser's bidding amounts, may change. To effectively simulate a large number of ad queries, the advertising segments simulation and performs simulation of each segment. Each segment's ad results may affect the conditions of a subsequent segment, and the change in conditions may change the size of a subsequent segment.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention are directed to programming a payment device that can be in the same form factor as a typical credit or debit card and which can be programmed and reprogrammed with various payment profiles. The payment device is interfaced with a mobile device, such as through insertion into a module capable of holding the payment device within proximity to a main housing of the mobile device. The payment device can include both a magnetic stripe and an IC chip which is capable of near field communication. In embodiments of the invention, the mobile device, such as a cellular phone, includes a memory element. The memory element securely stores payment profiles of financial accounts which are commonly found on credit, debit, gift, transit and loyalty cards. When a payment profile stored in the memory element of the mobile phone is selected, the mobile phone writes the profile onto the payment device.

Abstract: A system for use in allowing a user to conduct one or more transactions at one or more touchpoints in a business facility includes an authentication component, a tracking component, and a control component. The authentication component is configured to authenticate the user as a person allowed to conduct the one or more transactions. The tracking component is configured to track the user's location within the facility as the user moves through the facility. The control component is configured (a) to receive authentication information from the authentication component, (b) to receive location information from the tracking component, (c) to use the location information to recognize that the user has moved into position to engage one of the touchpoints, and (d) to deliver a message to the touchpoint authorizing the touchpoint to engage in one or more transactions with the user.
