Abstract: Heavy metal salts of certain branched chain carboxylic acids significantly improve the filterability, pour point and cloud point of liquid hydrocarbyl fuels when incorporated therein.
Abstract: A fuel composition containing a fuel additive which comprises a metal compound has been developed which fuel composition is stable upon storage. It has been discovered that a fuel additive comprising a metal compound and an oxime does not degrade a fuel, e.g. heating fuel oil, diesel fuel and the like, upon storage. Fuel additives containing metal compounds to function, e.g., as an agent to reduce soot formation and generally improve the combustion properties of the fuel may be added to fuels and stored without the build-up of gummy deposits and sludge in the storage container.
Abstract: A novel compound having the following formula: ##STR1## in which R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 may independently represent a hydrogen radical, a hydrocarbon radical having from 8 to 20 carbon atoms, or an alkoxy substituted hydrocarbon radical of from 8 to 20 carbon atoms having at least one alkoxy substituent; R.sup.3 is a hydrocarbon radical having from 8 to 21 carbon atoms or a hydrocarbylamine radical having a molecular weight ranging from 135 to 300;and X and Y are members selected from the group consisting of --H,--COOH,--CN,--CONR.sup.4 R.sup.5,--COR.sup.6, --COOR.sup.7,--C.sub.6 H.sub.5,--NO.sub.2 in which R.sup.4, R.sup.5, R.sup.6 and R.sup.7 independently represent a hydrogen radical or a hydrocarbyl radical having from 1 to 20 carbon atoms;and a detergent and corrosion inhibited fuel composition containing same are provided.
Abstract: Disclosed are polyaminoalkenyl or alkyl succinimides which have been modified by treatment with a compound of the formula: ##STR1## R.sub.4 is an alkylene group of from 2 to 3 carbon atoms or an alkylene group of from 2 to 3 carbon atoms substituted with from 1 to 3 alkyl groups of from 1 to 2 carbon atoms each. The modified polyamino alkenyl or alkyl succinimides of this invention have been found to possess dispersancy and detergency in lubricating oils. These modified succinimides are also useful as dispersants and detergents in fuels.
Abstract: Disclosed are polyaminoalkenyl or alkyl succinimides which have been modified by treatment with a compound of the formula: ##STR1## wherein W is oxygen or sulfur; X is oxygen or sulfur; R.sub.4 is an alkylene group of from 2 to 3 carbon atoms or an alkylene group of from 2 to 3 carbon atoms substituted with from 1 to 3 alkyl groups of from 1 to 2 carbon atoms each; and R.sub.5 is hydrogen or alkyl of from 1 to 20 carbon atoms. The modified polyamino alkenyl or alkyl succinimides of this invention have been found to possess dispersancy and detergency in lubricating oils. These modified succinimides are also useful as dispersants and detergents in fuels.
Abstract: Corrosion inhibiting additive compositions for use in alcohol and alcohol containing normally liquid hydrogen fuels derived by the reaction of at least one phosphoric acid reactant and at least one amine selected from the group consisting of morpholines and alkanolamines and alcohol and alcohol containing normally liquid hydrocarbon fuels containing said additive compositions are disclosed.
Abstract: A process for producing a coal-water mixture includes forming dilatant coal particles in an aqueous coal feedstock mixture by treatment with ozone and classifying the coal feedstock mixture by treatment with ozone and classifying the coal feedstock to form first and second coal feed streams each comprised of differently-classified coal particles. Separate surge vessels receive the coal particles in a liquid medium forming each coal feed stream is determined and an electrical signal is delivered to a microprocessor for controlling the portions of each stream which are mixed together in the presence of a dispersing agent to form a coal-water mixture. The coal-water mixture is comprised of at least 65% by weight coal particles, preferably 70%.
Abstract: Disclosed is an additive composition for lubricants and hydrocarbon fuel compositions formed by reacting an olefin, elemental sulfur, hydrogen sulfide, and a polymeric nitrogen-containing compound in a presence of a catalytic amount of an amine. The reaction product is effective when mixed in desired proportions with lubricants and with hydrocarbon fuels.
Abstract: This invention relates to the inhibition of corrosion resulting from the presence of vanadium and sodium in fuels, for example, in residual fuels, such as in those fuels used in steam boilers, process heaters and gas turbines, etc., by adding Mg/Al/Si combinations thereto. Mg/Al/Si combinations are more effective than other inhibitors at a high Na/V ratio.
Abstract: A fuel composition for internal combustion engines, and more particularly, a fuel composition for internal combustion engines containing less than about 0.5 gram of lead per liter of fuel is described. The fuel composition comprises a major amount of a liquid hydrocarbon fuel and a minor, property improving amount of(A) at least one hydrocarbon-soluble alkali or alkaline earth metal-containing composition, and(B) at least one hydrocarbon-soluble ashless dispersant.When a mixture of the metal-containing composition (A) and the ashless dispersant (B) are incorporated into gasolines containing less than about 0.5 gram of lead per liter of fuel, the treated fuel exhibits improved stability and water tolerance, and when the unleaded or low lead-containing fuels of the present invention are utilized in internal combustion engines, there is a significant reduction in valve seat recession.

Abstract: A material is described having a use as a motor fuel additive for controlling engine octane requirement increase (ORI), controlling and reducing hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide engine emissions, and having carburetor detergency properties. Said material is the reaction product of maleic anhydride, a polyether polyamine, preferably a polyether diamine, and a hydrocarbyl polyamine, preferably an n-alkyl-alkylene diamine. A concentrate comprising the prescribed reaction product dissolved in a hydrocarbon solvent is also described. Motor fuels containing the reaction product additive of the instant invention show improved ORI control and carburetor detergency in comparison with motor fuels without said reaction product additive.
Abstract: A motor fuel composition comprising a mixture of hydrocarbons in the gasoline boiling range containing in combination a reaction product component and a polyolefin polymer/copolymer component is described. The reaction product component is the reaction product of maleic anhydride, a polyether polyamine, and a hydrocarbyl polyamine. The polyolefin polymer/copolymer component is the polymer, copolymer, or corresponding hydrogenated polymer or copolymer of a C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 unsaturated hydrocarbon, said polymer or copolymer having a molecular weight in the range of 500-3500, preferably 650-2600.

Abstract: Coking in and around the injector nozzles of indirect injection compression ignition engines is reduced by means of distillate fuel with which has been blended suitable concentrations of (i) organic nitrate ignition accelerator, and (ii) a carboxylic acid ester.Also described are additive mixtures of (i) and (ii) for use in distillate fuels in amounts sufficient to reduce the coking tendencies of such fuels when used in the operation of indirect injection compression ignition engines.
