  • Patent number: 8878651
Abstract: A food source information transferring system for a livestock slaughterhouse and a related method are disclosed. In one embodiment, the food source information transferring system is capable of reading first tag-identifying information in a livestock RFID tag on a body of a carcass and second tag-identifying information in a hook RFID tag incorporated in a hook that can be hung on a hook machine. A food source information database can pair a first set of data associated with the livestock RFID tag with a second set of data associated with the hook RFID tag to preserve producer-level livestock information to meat-processing, distribution, and sales channels. This unique pairing of the first set of data associated with the livestock RFID tag and the second set of data associated with the hook RFID tag in the food source information database can result in seamless, robust, and lossless food source information management.

  • Patent number: 8830066
Abstract: The present invention is to provide a package bag having a metal layer, wherein the metal layer is formed with a first groove and a second groove, and the second groove has a first side extending to one edge of the metal layer and a second side away from said edge and communicating vertically with a central section of a first side of the first groove. The second side of the second groove is shorter than the first side of the first groove, such that the portions of the metal layer adjacent to the first side of the first groove form two first impedance-matching portions respectively, and the two corresponding portions of the metal layer adjacent to the first groove form two second impedance-matching portions respectively. Thus, due to the impedance-matching portions, a slot antenna can be formed on the metal layer for coupling with a communication device attached thereto.

  • Patent number: 8823491
Abstract: Disclosed are an object locator system, a method and a program storage device. In the embodiments, radio frequency identification (RFID) tags are on objects within a defined area and each RFID tag can be activated by an RF activation signal. When a request (e.g., a verbal or keyed-in request) to locate a specific object is received from a specific user, the required permission to locate the object is verified and, optionally, the identity of the specific user is authenticated. Once the required permission is verified and the identity of the specific user is authenticated, one of three RFID readers transmits an RF activation signal. RF response signals received back at the three RFID readers from the specific object's RFID tag are used to triangulate the position of the specific object. Once determined, the position is communicated (e.g., by map display, verbal message, or text message) to the specific user.

  • Patent number: 8760284
Abstract: A listening system that eases the acknowledgement of ‘alarm signals’, as e.g. issued by alarm indicators, in the environment of a user in difficult listening situations. The listening system is adapted to issue specific ALARM mode signals to the user corresponding to said external alarm signals, when said listening system is in an ALARM mode. An advantage of the present system is that a user is able to take notice of alarms from normal indicators even in case of a hearing impairment and/or when located in a noisy environment. • Patent number: 8760275
Abstract: As a user is interacting with a mobile device, the user is sometimes distracted from impending obstacles that may be approaching the user. The mobile device can detect an approaching obstacle and can determine that the user is also interacting with the mobile device. Upon detecting these two events, the user of the mobile device is notified of the approaching obstacle using various notification methods, such as displaying a message to the user or using an audible sound or message. The notification can also include interrupting an application on the mobile device, such as a video game, to display a message to the user of the approaching obstacle. The system and method also comprise a distributed architecture where detection of the approaching obstacle is accomplished external to the mobile device. For example, a detection module in an automobile or airplane can be used to detect approaching obstacles.

  • Patent number: 8760304
Abstract: In certain embodiments, a system includes a security barrier attached to a structure such that the security barrier is operable to move from a first position, in which the security barrier blocks an exterior opening of the structure, to a second position, in which the security barrier does not block the exterior opening of the structure. The system further includes a latch mechanism operable to control movement of the security barrier from the first position to the second position and a sensor operable to generate an emergency signal indicating an emergency condition within the structure. The system further includes a control unit operable to access the emergency signal generated by the sensor and generate, in response to the emergency signal, a release signal to be communicated to the latch mechanism. The release signal is operable to cause the latch mechanism to permit the security barrier to move from the first position to the second position.

  • Patent number: 8749344
Abstract: An exit lane monitoring system (10) detects wrong-way movement through a passage (P) between a secure area and a public area. Heel before toe sensors (12) are positioned on the floor of the passage and detect the foot pressure exerted by people moving through the passage from the secure area toward the public area and of persons moving the wrong way through the passage. Positioning of the sensors in the passage depends upon the geometry of the passage so sensors may be oriented in a non-geometric pattern if so dictated by the passage's geometry. A door (D) is selectively operated to block the passage and prevent persons moving the wrong way through it from entering the secure area. A control unit (16) is responsive to a sensor indication that someone is moving the wrong way to activate the door to block the passage and prevent movement into the secure area.
