Abstract: A polymerization process, especially a solution polymerization process, for the preparation of high molecular weight polymers of alpha-olefins less susceptible to yellowness is disclosed. The process comprises feeding monomer(s), coordination catalyst and optionally inert hydrocarbon solvent to a reactor, polymerizing the monomers at a temperature of up to 320.degree. C. and deactivating the catalyst. An organozirconium compound is admixed with the polymer thus obtained. The organozirconium compound is of the formula ZrO.sub.m (OCOR').sub.n (OR").sub.p-n where R' and R" are independently selected from the group consisting of alkyl and cycloalkyl having 1-20 carbon atoms, and m =0 or 1, provided that when m=0, p is 4 and n is 0-4, and when m=1, p is 2 and n=0-2. Any hydrocarbon solvent and other volatile matter are then separated and a composition comprising said high molecular weight polymer is recovered.
Abstract: Compositions, including hydrocarbon elastomeric block copolymers, such as styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene and styrene-butadiene-styrene with mineral oil and essentially linear (i.e. non-cross-linked) polysiloxanes are made transparent by using polysiloxanes which are miscible with mineral oil. A preferred polysiloxane is polymethyloctyl siloxane. Transparent films, bags, tubes and other articles, especially useful in medical applications, such as catheters, blood tubes and blood bags, can be processed from the compositions.
Abstract: Treatment of aqueous suspensions of vinyl chloride polymers containing vinyl chloride monomer so as to inhibit wet-foaming therein, by adding a glyceride of an optionally substituted saturated or unsaturated carboxylic acid containing 6 to 20 carbon atoms (e.g. glycerol monoricinoleate). Solid-foaming can also be inhibited by adding a wetting agent (such as partially hydrolysed polyvinyl acetate PVA) and a preferred formulation for effecting the treatment comprises an aqueous emulsion of the glyceride having PVA as the emulsion stabilizer.
Abstract: The processing of elastomer gums, which can be natural rubber or synthetic elastomers such as copolymers of vinylidene fluoride and hexafluoropropylene, are improved by incorporating in said gum, along with conventional chemical and compounding ingredients, cyanuric acid or isocyanurate or cyanurate derivatives thereof to improve the processing of such gums, for example, to improve the extrudability thereof or the release of molded articles thereof from the mold.
