  • Patent number: 7369866
Abstract: Message processing for a communication terminal is disclosed. In one embodiment, a method for preparing an outgoing message includes composing the message, programming control information for performing a word spacing function, and associating the outgoing message with the control information. The control information may preferably assert whether to insert spaces between words of the outgoing message. In another embodiment, a method for processing a message includes receiving an incoming message and incoming control information for performing the word spacing function, and arranging the incoming message based on the incoming control information. An unspaced message may be sent, allowing the sending to include more letters, numbers, symbols, or other ‘non-space characters’ in the message. Furthermore, because the message is sent with the control information, the message may be arranged and displayed in spaced-wording format, allowing for easier reading by the message recipient.

  • Patent number: 7363032
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for providing manual selection of a communication network for a mobile station are described. A plurality of communication networks are identified by scanning a coverage area within which the mobile station is operating. A plurality of network identifiers corresponding to the plurality of communication networks are then retrieved from memory of a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) in accordance with an Enhanced Operator Name String (EONS) protocol. Preferably, each network identifier is retrieved based on a Mobile Country Code (MCC), a Mobile Network Code (MNC), and a Location Area Code (LAC). The plurality of network identifiers are visually displayed for user selection, and at least two of the network identifiers may be substantially the same. The user selected communication network is registered with and the network identifier associated with this network is visually displayed.

  • Patent number: 7359705
Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus for transmitting and receiving signals in a wireless telecommunication system and to a method for transmitting random access bursts in such an apparatus. The apparatus 1 comprises transmitting means 3 for transmitting random access bursts, receiving means 4 for receiving acknowledgement information confirming a successful transmission of a random access burst, decision means for deciding if acknowledgement information has been received, and control means 6 for randomly choosing a time point for an attempt to retransmit said random access burst from an interval if no acknowledgement information has been received after a random access burst had been transmitted, whereby the control means sets the length of the interval depending on the number of unsuccessful attempts to transmit a random access burst. The proposed backoff scheme provides an improved performance and increased system stability without the need for a collision detection on the network side.

  • Patent number: 7321767
Abstract: A telephone switching system includes a position information management database and a call conversion controller. On receiving number conversion information from an adapter having a radio communication terminal connected, the database registers an identification number assigned to the adapter and terminal information particular to the communication terminal in one-to-one correspondence, thereby managing the position of the communication terminal. When a call is originated on a telephone terminal interconnected thereto or a communication terminal having a voice communication function interconnected to its LAN system, the call conversion controller searches the database on the basis of a destination number and substitutes, if terminal information corresponding to the destination number is found out in the database, the identification number of the adapter corresponding to the terminal information for the destination number to process call switching.
