  • Patent number: 9578579
Abstract: A method, apparatus and software related product (e.g., a computer readable memory) for efficient measurement reporting by UEs to provide, for example, lower UE power consumption, efficient use of network resources, small cell ottloading, etc., in wireless networks such as LTE/LTE-A systems that can be also applied in inter-system cases such as a mix of UTRAN and E-UTRAN as one non-limiting example is presented. The UE performs measurements and event evaluation as in conventional LTE/LTE-A systems, but for certain cells/carriers an event triggered measurement report, which conventionally would be transmitted when time-to-trigger (TTT) expires (see details e.g. in 3GPP TS 36.331), is not transmitted but regarded as buffered (e.g., in a memory or buffered memory of the UE) as a candidate measurement report, when a predefined criterion is not met. This predefined criterion is e.g. a need at the UE to request network resources for uplink transmission by the UE.

  • Patent number: 9572049
Abstract: Performance issues of wireless equipment (WE) or a wireless network are diagnosed through an alternative communication channel enabled by an alternative wireless network available to the WE. A service platform (SP) probes performance condition of the WE through a mobility control node (MCN) and, in response to a fault condition, collects data related to operation of the WE. Based at least on part of the data, the SP diagnoses the fault condition and related performance issue(s). To probe performance, the SP requests the MCN to collect data related to performance metric(s) of the WE. The alternative communication channel is established, and such data is collected therefrom, in response to low-grade connectivity amongst the MCN and the WE. The SP notifies the WE of at least the fault condition through the MCN or, in case of network fault condition, via the alternative communication channel.

  • Patent number: 9571976
Abstract: Embodiments described herein provide improvements to the accuracy of location estimates. In one embodiment, an apparatus stores a first plurality of RF signal strength values that are mapped to known locations, and stores a second plurality of RF signal strength values that are not mapped to known locations. The apparatus estimates locations where the second plurality of RF signal strength values was measured based on the first plurality of RF signal strength values and their corresponding known locations, calculates an uncertainty for the estimated locations, and identifies an estimated location having a highest uncertainty. The apparatus directs a measurement device to measure an RF signal strength value at a known location that corresponds with the estimated location, and adds the RF signal strength value to the first plurality of RF signal strength values to reduce an uncertainty in subsequent estimates of locations within the broadcast area.

  • Patent number: 9572035
Abstract: A method of unlocking a mobile terminal and a mobile terminal is disclosed. The mobile terminal is initially locked to the services of a mobile services provider. The mobile services provider transmits to a predefined telephone number associated with a service provider other than the mobile services provider, via the mobile services provider, a request for unlocking information. The request is transparent to the mobile services provider. If the request is approved, the mobile terminal receives the unlocking information. Using the received unlocking information, the mobile terminal unlocks itself so that it is no longer locked to the services of the mobile services provider. If the request is not approved, the mobile terminal receives and displays a message indicating that the request is not approved.

  • Patent number: 9565025
Abstract: A message handler may receive, for a roaming user within a visited network of a visited mobile service provider, a message in accordance with a first roaming protocol implementation of the visited mobile service provider, and may identify, from a mediation repository, a relationship between the first roaming protocol implementation of the visited mobile service provider and a second roaming protocol implementation of a home mobile service provider of which the roaming user is a subscriber. A packet inspector may determine, from the relationship, that the message requires modifications in order to comply with the second roaming protocol implementation, and a packet modifier may then modify the message to ensure compliance with the second roaming protocol implementation.

  • Patent number: 9532363
Abstract: Supplemental node transmission assistance in a wireless network provides for transmissions between a wireless network and wireless user equipment in a first direction using a serving node of the wireless network while providing for transmissions between the wireless network and wireless user equipment in a second direction using a supplemental node of the wireless network. The supplemental node is selected based on providing better channel conditions between the network and the user equipment in the second direction than the serving node. The supplemental node thus provides transmission assistance for the serving node in order to provide the best available downlink and uplink communications between the user equipment and the network.
