  • Patent number: 8606886
Abstract: A system and method for converting machines from one form to another. For example a virtual machine may be moved to a physical machine or vice versa. Conversions may also be performed with images. An image is a static datastore of the state of a machine at a given time. All conversions are achieved by pushing a job containing information on the actions to be performed to a controller. A controller resides on the machine where the actions must take place and executes and reports on the status of the job.

  • Patent number: 8577984
Abstract: Techniques to allow applications to propagate information to the other instances of the applications running on downstream servers are provided. An indicator, such as a token, tag, etc., is placed within or added to a message that is flowing through the distributed environment to signify that a process has been performed on the message. For example, when an instance of an application running on a server receives a message, the application instance can examine the indicator contained in the message and take appropriate action. If the application instance decides to process the message, the application instance can include an indicator in the message to signify that the application instance processed the message. The presence of the indicator signifies that the message has been processed by an upstream instance of the same application.

  • Patent number: 8566441
Abstract: Embodiments calculate an estimated latency between computing devices. A latency service aggregates latency records defining latency measurements and corresponding latency factors from a plurality of computing devices. From the aggregated latency records, the latency service defines relationships between the latency measurements and the corresponding latency factors. Responsive to a request for an estimated latency from a mobile computing device, the latency service applies the defined relationships to estimate the latency based on the latency factors associated with the received request. In some embodiments, the estimated latency includes three portions: a first latency value representing the latency from the mobile computing device to a cell site, a second latency value representing the latency from the cell site to an access point, and a third latency value representing the latency from the access point to a destination computing device.

  • Patent number: 8533316
Abstract: Provided is a management computer which reduces the workload of an administrator of a network in setting node when the normal network is changed to a network with redundancy. The management computer manages a plurality of nodes that constitute a network accommodating VLANs. The plurality of nodes include a first node and a second node which make a redundancy pair and which divides the network into an active path and a standby path. The management computer stores port management information showing connection relations for respective nodes and identifiers of VLANs allocated to ports of the nodes, and creates the redundancy pair by updating the port management information of the first node such that a VLAN allocated to one of ports of a connected node that is connected to the first node is allocated to one of ports of the first node that is connected to the connected node.

  • Patent number: 8521808
Abstract: A mechanism is provided for a non-root-level user to execute command line script files via a generic command line interface. A command line interface in the data processing system receives a shellscript command from a non-root-level user via a client system. A security module in the data processing system determines whether the non-root-level user is logged on at a command line interface shell level access. Responsive to the non-root-level user being logged on at the command line interface shell level access, a storage controller at the request of a command line interface identifies a script file associated the shellscript command in a storage of the data processing system. The storage controller executes the script file and the command line interface sends the results of the execution of the script file to the non-root-level user via the client system.
