Abstract: A system (and a method) is disclosed for processing a media file for transmission. The system determines a size of the media file and a threshold size for transmission of the media file to a destination. In responsive to the size of the media file exceeding the threshold size for the destination, the system sets a crop window for the media file, the crop window within the threshold size and provides for display an overlay of the crop window relative to the media file. The system generates a cropped media file based on a position of the overlay of the crop window relative to the media file. The generated cropped media file has a size within the threshold size. The system transmits the cropped media file to the destination.

Abstract: A process for creating a media sequence, for example video or audio, and an associated device includes the stages of: obtaining a selection of media files; regrouping the chosen media files into a plurality of groups according to at least one coherence criterion; selecting, for each group of media files assembled in this way, a media motif among a plurality of predefined media motifs, the chosen media motif being able to define a media rendering for the set of media files of the group; and assembling the media motifs selected in this way and their associated media files in such a way as to form at least one definition of the media sequence. The process can relate to automated video editing as implemented on Web servers.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method of annotating an electronic document may include receiving annotation information corresponding to a first electronic document file and creating annotation metadata that is associated with the annotation information. The method may further include storing the annotation information and associated annotation metadata in an annotation file that is separate from the first electronic document file, and anchoring the annotation information to a target electronic document file at an anchor location corresponding to the annotation metadata. The annotation metadata may be generated by assigning a target offset value to individual neighboring tokens defining an annotation neighborhood, wherein the target offset values correspond to positions of the neighboring tokens with respect to an annotation location within the first electronic document file.

Abstract: A system and method for editing a table within a hypertext markup language (HTML) editor is described, the method comprising analyzing code representing the table to determine dimension parameters based on content of the table, storing the dimension parameters in a memory, receiving edit indications from a user, concurrently comparing the edit indications against the dimension parameters, wherein edit indications that exceed the dimension parameters are rejected, and updating each instance of the dimension parameters within the code with the edit indications.

Abstract: A simple and easy-to-use method is provided for dividing an html page at positions intended by the designer in accordance with the type of display device on which the page is to be displayed. A controller searches an html page for comment statements that have been formed according to predetermined grammatical rules and inserted in advance into the html page coding, divides the html page at positions at which the comment statements are found to have been inserted, restores to each divided html page the attribute data lost due to the division process, and generates the new html pages.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to systems and methods of creating and deploying electronic forms for collecting information from a user using a browser, where the browser may be one of a plurality of browser platforms. Characteristics of forms are entered by a human designer using a form designer by using drag-and-drop operations, and stored in XML template files. The form may be previewed by the designer. When a user on the Internet (or an intranet) requests a form by a browser, the characteristics of the browser are sensed and a form appropriate for the browser is deployed to the browser by a form server. Information is then captured from the user. The form may also be saved or printed.

Abstract: A social networking system provides a short, unbiased biographical summary for a user of the social networking system. The short biography includes a few relevant biographical information items selected from the user's profile and is displayed on the profile page. The short biography may be displayed with a set of photographs also selected from the profile for their relevance. Relevance may be based on various information including temporal relevance and relevance to the viewing user. Display of the short biography allows a viewer to easily find current biographical information about the user in an abbreviated format.

Abstract: Slides are selectively presented via a slide presentation system based upon a priority level assigned to a slide presentation. The assigned priority level indicates which of the slides to selectively present and includes a first priority level of at least two priority levels associated with the slide presentation. A request is received during the selective presentation of the slides, via an input device associated with the slide presentation system, to change the priority level assigned to the slide presentation to a second priority level of the at least two priority levels. The remaining slides of the slide presentation are selectively presented via the slide presentation system based upon the second priority level. This abstract is not to be considered limiting, since other embodiments may deviate from the features described in this abstract.

Abstract: Media content is received through a plurality of inputs, each input being associated with one of a plurality of media content sources. Media content is provided to a media player for display in a first viewing frame based on a first one of the media content sources. A request is received for a second viewing frame. A list of available media content sources is provided. A source selection of a second one of the media content sources is received. Media content from the selected second one of the media content sources is provided in the second viewing frame.

Abstract: Systems and methods allow a user to select a subset of displayed content using a touch screen. A user can touch the screen at or near a portion of the displayed content that the user would like to select. The touch module can display the selection of the selected portion on the touch screen using an indicator (e.g., highlighting, underlining, change in color). While the user continues to touch the screen, the selection of displayed content can expand to select additional content based on at least one rule. The rule(s) define how the selection of displayed content expands using characteristics of the user's touch. For example, these characteristics can include an amount of pressure exerted on the screen, a direction of finger roll at the point of contact with the screen, and an amount of time that the user has touched the screen.

Abstract: Resource management system, method and program for selecting candidate tag are provided. The tag can be readily attached to a resource by presenting a candidate tag also to a resource newly registered in a database. The degree of similarity of a new registration resource to each of a plurality of already-registered resources that have been already registered in the database is calculated. A tag attached to an already-registered resource of which the degree of similarity is large is selected as a candidate for a tag to be attached to the new registration resource. Thereby, a candidate tag can be also presented to a resource newly registered in the database. A user can further readily attach a tag compared to a conventional system.

Abstract: A print control program according to the present invention makes an information processor control a printer. The printer is connected to the information processor and can do printing under the conditions set. The set conditions can reduce the consumption of printing media by the printer. The program includes a first step through a fourth step. The first step is to wait until an instruction is entered into the information processor to start printing under the set conditions. The second step is to analyze the set conditions if the information processor detects the entered instruction at the first step. The third step is to form a preview image representing an image or images as printed under the analyzed conditions at least one of which has been changed to further reduce the printing medium consumption. The fourth step is to display the formed preview image on the display of the information processor.

Abstract: The video output system in a computer system reads pixel information from a frame buffer to generate a video output signal. In addition, a full-motion video may also be displayed. Reading from both the frame buffer and the full-motion video buffer when displaying the full-motion video window wastes valuable memory bandwidth. Thus, the disclosed system provides a system and methods for identifying where the video output system must read from the frame buffer and where it must read from the full-motion video buffer while minimizing the amount of area it reads from both the frame buffer and the full-motion video buffer.

Abstract: A network connects stations in a distributed physics based simulation system. When the simulation detects that a weapon, especially a missile or directed energy beam, is engaging a target vehicle, one physics station determines damage status of the target vehicle. The detonation or strike of the weapon is applied to a model of the vehicle composed of pieces each made up of a number of parts. Where the damage to a piece of the vehicle exceeds a predetermined threshold, the piece is removed from the vehicle, and where a predetermined maximum damage is reached for the vehicle, the vehicle is considered destroyed. The damage assessment from the weapon is made using raytracing in a physics engine that is also used to control movement of virtual objects in the simulation according to rules of physics of the physics engine.

Abstract: An edged weapon training device. The device has a handle portion for gripping by a training subject. A blade portion has at least one exposed contact portion. The contact portion includes a marking device which leaves a mark when it touches an opponent during martial arts or other edged weapon training activities.

Abstract: A method for mapping viewpoints and model levels of a first framework to a second framework includes receiving data related to viewpoints and model levels in a first format related to the first framework, mapping the received data in the first format to data related to viewpoints and model levels in a second format related to the second framework. The mapping is performed by organizing the viewpoints and the models in both the first and second formats across at least two orthogonal dimensions.

Abstract: A system and method for displaying a multimedia content over a network is provided. The multimedia content comprises a standard-content part and a customized-content part. The customized-content part comprises one or more multimedia components. The method comprises the steps of selecting one or more of the multimedia components based on a predetermined set of preferences to obtain a multimedia component set comprising one or more multimedia components. The method further comprises customizing dynamically one or more of the multimedia components belonging to the multimedia component set based on the predetermined set of preferences. Thereafter, the method integrates the multimedia components to obtain the customized-content part. Further, the customized-content part is associated with the multimedia content and the multimedia content is displayed with the customized-content part.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus, including computer program products, implement techniques for configuring at least a portion of a document for display in a display environment. The techniques include generating a document color palette for all or a portion of an electronic document, where the colors of the document color palette are selected based on colors of a plurality of color containing objects in the document or portion thereof, and generating a plurality of views of the document, two or more of the views being based on different color palettes. The plurality of views includes a document view including each of the plurality of color containing objects, where each color containing object in the document view is represented using the document color palette.

Abstract: The system and a computer-implemented method annotate a multimedia object on a web page hosted on a publisher computer system. A web page that includes a multimedia object is rendered in a web browser of a client computer system. One or more layers, including a transparent layer, at least partially located over the multimedia object displayed on the web page are generated wherein the one or more layers are configured to facilitate the creation and display of annotation data for the multimedia object based on user interface events produced by a user of the client computer system. Annotation data for the multimedia object is received from the user. The annotation data is transmitted to an annotation server for storage. A visual indicator indicating that the annotation data is associated with the multimedia object is displayed, wherein the visual indicator is rendered in the one or more layers.

Abstract: A curriculum progression pathway analysis assesses an educational program having multiple activities defining multiple learner tracks by organizing the learners into groups based on the learner tracks and, for each learner group, calculating a baseline average score, a post-activity average score, and statistical differences between the baseline average score and the post-activity average scores. Any significant statistical differences are identified, and a report may be generated describing statistical conclusions and inferences. The invention can further provide a domain-based learner analysis for curriculum, a domain-based learner analysis for activities, and a learner retention analysis. In an application for continuing medical education the performance index test includes a clinical vignette, a set of statements which are moved to either a best practices column or a not best practices column, and an indicator for an allowable number of moves to achieve a perfect score.
