  • Patent number: 8027695
Abstract: A method and system for filtering unwanted wireless telecommunications includes structure and steps/function for monitoring traffic associated with roaming subscribers, the traffic being carried via inter-network Internet Protocol links. Structure and steps/function are also provided for intercepting a send-routing-information message from an originating node within the traffic, and initiating a response to the originating node so as to direct the originating node to send a short message service (SMS) or Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) associated with the send-routing-information message to a SPAM-filter via an SMS or MMS delivery message. Structure and steps/function are further provided for receiving the SMS or MMS at the SPAM-filter, and determining, at the SPAM-filter, whether the SMS or MMS constitutes an unwanted message. • Patent number: 8024008
Abstract: When an instruction to change the display size of the content of a 1-segment broadcast received by a television broadcast communication unit is given while the content is being displayed on a display screen, and if it is possible to receive the content of a 12-segment broadcast continuously to the content of the 1-segment broadcast, a CPU switches to receiving the 12-segment broadcast and displays the broadcast content in the standard display size (second display size) of the 12-segment broadcast. If it is not possible to receive the 12-segment broadcast continuously to the 1-segment broadcast, the CPU displays the content of the 1-segment broadcast by changing it to the second display size.

  • Patent number: 8018881
Abstract: A call flow is provided in a wireless communication system to enable quality of service (QoS) parameters to be retrieved and provided to a base station when a wireless device requests service. The QoS parameters may include or represent a QoS profile associated with the wireless device, a QoS profile associated with a user of the wireless device, or a QoS policy for a session involving the wireless device. The base station uses the QoS parameters to control access to the system by the wireless device. Another call flow is provided to transfer the QoS parameters from the base station to a packet control function for storage when a packet data session associated with the wireless device becomes dormant. If the packet data session is later reactivated, the QoS parameters are provided from the packet control function back to the base station.

  • Patent number: 7142850
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of estimating the speed (v) of a mobile station connected by a radio transmission channel to a remote station, said method including the following successive steps: receiving and filtering a transmission signal (s) to obtain a measuring signal reflecting time variations of said transmission channel, determining a correlation function (R(?)) of said measuring signal parametered by the mobile station speed (v), seeking the value (R?(0)) of the second derivation of said correlation function at the origin, estimating the first derivative (?0) of the measuring signal and calculating the variance (C) of the estimate, and identifying the results obtained during the preceding two steps (R?(0)=C).

  • Patent number: 6766163
Abstract: A communication system and method for communicating teletext information to mobile stations. A wireless access protocol (WAP) server is coupled to a television station and receives a signal which includes teletext information from the station. The WAP server includes a teletext decoder which decodes the teletext information in the transmitted signal. The decoded information is stored in memory using a server controller. The controller receives information requests from a network interface coupled to the mobile stations. The controller accesses the teletext information stored in memory and transmits the information to the mobile station through the network interface.

  • Patent number: 6694131
Abstract: Adaptive image rejection in a wireless communication receiver is implemented using a dual conversion technique where a first mixer is used to downconvert the received RF signal to a first IF. A second mixer is used to downconvert the first IF to a baseband signal. A Local Oscillator (LO) drives the first mixer. The baseband signal is filtered and data is extracted. A bit error rate is determined from the extracted data. If the bit error rate falls below a predetermined threshold, a controller adjusts the frequency of the LO. If the LO was previously configured as a low side LO the controller adjusts the frequency of the LO to a high side LO frequency. Conversely, if the LO is configured as a high side LO the controller adjusts the frequency of the LO to be the low side LO frequency.

  • Patent number: 6430171
Abstract: A random access channel receiver used in a base station of a CDMA mobile communication system is provided. The receiver is only provided with a single signal decoding part for performing burst reception of control request signals having different off-set timing each other. A synchronizing circuit calculates correlation value at each off-set timing, and a synchronism determining and establishing circuit determines the off-set timing to be used for a synchronizing signal for receiving the signal frame currently arriving by monitoring correlation values of respective off-set timings, and alters the off-set timing for the synchronizing signal to better quality of signal if a plurality of signal frames of different off-set timing are arrived. The signal frame of less quality is discarded, or abandoned its decoding processing.

  • Patent number: 6366778
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling the transmit power levels of first and second base station transceivers, wherein the first and second base station transceivers are respectively associated with first and second sectors of a cell. The received signal strength of a communication signal arriving at the mobile station is initially determined. A power control value that is based on the received signal strength is then transmitted from the mobile station to the first and second base station transceivers. A first received power control value is next generated by attempting to receive the transmitted power control value at the first base station transceiver, and a second received power control value is generated by attempting to receive the transmitted power control value at the second base station transceiver. A common transmit power value is calculated at a base station controller for the first and second base station transceivers when the first and second received power control values are unequal.

  • Patent number: 6337985
Abstract: This invention relates to a method of modifying a current transmitted power distribution used by at least two base stations transmitting a signal to a mobile station on the macro-diversity principle. A mobile station using this method is also disclosed. According to the invention, the method consists substituting the current transmitted power distribution by a new transmitted power distribution, selected among several hypothetical transmitted power distributions, under the condition that this new transmitted power distribution provides a better quality of service at the mobile station than the current one.
