Abstract: Systems and methods for enabling and rewarding collaborative content creation are described. The method comprises, playing back live video provided by an over-the-top (OTT) provider to a user, receiving, from the user, a command to crop and modify a portion of the video comprising a subject, generating user-generated content based on the command, publishing the user-generated content to a plurality of users, determining whether the user-generated content is republished a threshold number of times during a republication period, and in response to determining that the user-generated content is republished the threshold number of times during the republication period, unlocking access to content from the OTT provider for the user that relates to the subject.

Abstract: A system for delivering digital content on demand in a multiple unit environment includes a server local to the multiple unit environment. The server stores, in its memory, the digital content, and is capable of supporting multiple simultaneous asynchronous accesses to the digital content. A billing system tracks the bill for each unit in the multiple unit environment, based on the accessed digital content. Within each unit that supports access to the digital content, an access system (preferably a set-top box) allows a user to access the digital content.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method and an apparatus for transceiving a broadcast signal for viewing environment adjustment. A method for transmitting a broadcast signal, in accordance with one embodiment of the present invention, comprises the steps of: encoding video data and signaling information including metadata regarding the production environment of the video data; generating a broadcast signal comprising the encoded video data and signaling information; and transmitting the generated broadcast signal.

Abstract: Systems and methods are used for receiving a video request from a user equipment for video to be downloaded; determining a link bandwidth status associated with the user equipment; in response to the link bandwidth status associated with the user equipment, determining whether to implement one or more additional processing functions associated with the video delivery; during the video delivery, repeating the determining such that the one or more additional processing functions associated with the video delivery can be implemented or not implemented at different times during the video delivery. These processing functions can include transrating, HTTP optimization, TCP optimization, and video pacing.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for switching from a first IPTV channel arranged to be delivered to a plurality of nodes, such as a broadcast or a unicast, to a second unicast IPTV channel. The first IPTV channel is received at an IPTV receiving node, such as a User Equipment. If it is determined that the first IPTV channel is no longer available, then an IPTV content provider capable of providing the same IPTV channel in a unicast as the first IPTV channel is identified. A message is then sent to an IPTV AS, the message including an instruction to switch to a unicast IPTV channel and an address for the identified IPTV content provider node. The IPTV receiving node then receives the IPTV channel unicast.

Users will be able to block specific offensive content such as nudity without blocking specific content such as violence. This media system will simultaneously work with movies, music and video games.

Abstract: A method in a server for providing various Internet Protocol television signal qualities involves an IPTV signal having a first signal quality that is transmitted over a first network connection to a first device. A request to receive the IPTV signal over a second network connection at a second device with the IPTV signal having a second signal quality is received. A determination is made that the second network connection has sufficient bandwidth to transmit the IPTV signal at the second signal quality, and that the second device is capable of receiving IPTV signal. The transmission of the IPTV signal over the first network connection to the first device is ended. An endpoint for the transmission of the IPTV signal to the first device is determined. The IPTV signal is transmitted over the second network connection to the second device at the second signal quality beginning at the determined endpoint.

Abstract: Systems and methods for analyzing viewing behavior of users viewing video content and advertisements are provided. A system may periodically or continuously receive tune data reflecting the viewing behavior of users, analyze the viewing behavior to determine a location and time period of advertisement blocks in a viewed segment, and determine parameters reflecting a comparison between a number of viewers that viewed the advertisement blocks and a number of viewers that viewed non-advertised content. The system may also deliver a report of the analysis to advertisers, agencies, media sellers, or other parties that are interested in measuring the effectiveness of advertisements on users. The analysis by the system can be done over multiple different types of content-distribution platforms.

Abstract: The current invention provides a system for distributing content data to user locations. The content data preferably includes digital video data that is available on demand from a requesting location. A system server stores user accounts and generated customized program schedules for the user account based on user criteria which includes user preferences. Authorized users access their accounts to modify user criteria and to select program transmissions. Preferably, a computer and a television set receive program transmissions from a system network, wherein the computer provides a logical interface between the television set and content data transmitted over the system network.

Abstract: An interactive television program guide is provided in which advertisements may be displayed on program guide screens. Banner advertisements may be displayed above and below program listings. Panel advertisements may be provided adjacent to program listings. The advertisements may contain video. The advertisements may be used to promote television programs and conventional goods and services. When a user selects an advertisement, the program guide provides the user with an opportunity to order products or services, request information, set reminders for upcoming programs, view program descriptions, record programs, or take other such actions. Embedded advertisements may be provided within the program listings region and may be automatically displayed immediately adjacent to related program listings.

Abstract: A media automation system can provide a common program to multiple different servers, for example a terrestrial broadcast radio server and a streaming radio server. Each of the different servers can receive different content blocks to be inserted during breaks in the common program. Media items from existing content blocks can be removed, and different items inserted. If a content block is under-filled, media items can be inserted without removing existing media items. When items are removed or added to a content block, the removal can be reported to a traffic and billing system for appropriate action. Content blocks can be customized by removing or inserting items based on information obtained from a cloud-based application, or some other source.

The first user device communicates a viewing history to the audience measurement module. The audience measurement module stores the viewing history over time. The head end communicates account data and the viewing history to a customer service system. The customer service system forms a selection signal by selecting second package content data. A comparison list is displayed comparing first package data and second package data. The customer service system communicates a confirmation signal to the billing system. The billing system associates the first content package data with the first account data. An authorization signal is communicated to the first user device to enable receiving the second content package.

The system comprises a first splitter having an input, a first output and a slaved output receiving a first signal at the input having a single polarization including a first service and a slaved service, wherein the first signal is directed to the first output and the slaved output and selected by a first control signal applied at the input, a first tuner receiving the first output and tuning the first service and a slaved tuner receiving the slaved output and tuning the slaved service. The method comprises generating a first control signal to select a first signal, receiving a first signal including a first service and a slaved service, wherein the first service and the slaved service are at the same polarization, splitting the first signal with a first splitter to a first output and a first slaved output, tuning the first service from the first output with a first tuner and tuning the slaved service from the slaved output with a slaved tuner.

Abstract: During sleep mode, a power-source control section stops the power supply to a tuner, a demodulation section, an AV-data processing section and a microcomputer, and delivers a power supply only to a standby tuner. The standby tuner receives a start signal which is transmitted from a head end, using a frequency except a specific frequency which is received by the tuner, and outputs a power-supply instruction signal according to the start signal. The power-source control section executes a power supply to the tuner, the demodulation section, the AV-data processing section and the microcomputer, in response to the power-supply instruction signal.

Abstract: Efficient messaging techniques that facilitate interactive program guide (IPG) delivery and allow a terminal to specifically designate requested items of information from a server. The IPG can be provided via a number of IPG pages, with each page including a number of defined regions. In one method, selection for a particular region of a particular page is received at a terminal and a determination is made whether the selected region is currently received. If the answer is no, a request for the selected region is generated and sent to a server. The request can conform to a particular message format that includes a number of fields, e.g., a region ID field that identifies the selected region, a subtype field that identifies a particular type, a time slot field that identifies a specific time slot, and a page offset field that identifies a specific page from among many.

Abstract: The present invention is an apparatus and method for allowing a user to search for specific content across many television channels in order to locate desirable television shows related to the searched content. Multiplexed cable signals flow thorough a logical unit which buffers text associated with the voice stream of each station via the pre-encoded closed-captioning signal or through the real-time voice translation within the logical unit. The user then enters search terms through one of a variety of different input devices. Upon entry of the search terms, the logical unit will compare the entered term with those available keywords stored in each buffer. Lexical parsing associates terms which may differ from plural to singular forms, or in tense. Additionally, synonym comparisons may be made. The logical unit will return a list of matches for the search criteria and allows the user the option of going directly to the television program.
