  • Patent number: 9711064
Abstract: Disclosed are systems, methods, and products for language learning that automatically extracts keywords from resources using various natural-language processing product features, which can be combined with custom-designed learning activities to offer a needs-based, adaptive learning methodology. The system may receive resources having text and then determine a text difficulty score that predicts how difficult the resource is for language learners based on any number of factors, including any number of semantic and syntactic features of the text. Training resources labeled with metadata may be used to train a statistical model for determining difficulty scores of newly received text. Resources may be grouped based on difficulty score, and groups of resources may correspond to language learners' proficiency levels.

  • Patent number: 9691289
Abstract: System and methods are provided to promote effortless automatic recognition of common sight words. A subject performs a game-like task that generates novel non-verbal visual stimuli that triggers visual attention shifts that enhance foveal and parafoveal recognition of non-verbal and verbal stimuli laterally presented in the right or left visual field. The present invention engages a shared motor-perceptual-cognitive neural network involving oculomotor, visuo-motor and selective executive cognitive behaviors on both brain hemispheres. The present invention has applications to a wide range of non-verbal pre-orthographic visual processes and early lexical processes, not only contributing to enabling reading fluency to dyslexics, reluctant and slow readers, but also to beginning readers. The present invention has wide applications in learning disabilities and normative individuals learning to read.

The method includes providing a computer system connected to an apparatus capable of capturing an image of a gemstone. The computer system is arranged to process a received image of a gemstone to determine one or more optical properties of the gemstone. In one aspect, the method presents on a display of the computer system a series of pre-stored screens comprising a graphical representation how the cut of a gemstone affects its light handling ability, and a user interface screen. The user interface screen allows the user to control the operation of the apparatus to measure the one or more optical properties of a particular gemstone provided to the apparatus, to view an image of the gemstone measured, and to view representations of the measured one or more optical properties.

Abstract: Interactive electronic training systems and methods are described herein. Certain embodiments provide preprogrammed video, audio, and/or textual presentations of training materials which provide information related to skills/information to be trained. A scenario including real or animated actors is presented, simulating an interaction. The training system presents related queries for the trainee who audibly responds. The training system stores a score based in part on a comparison of the trainee's response with an answer stored in training system memory. Optionally, the scores are substantially immediately presented by the system to the trainee.

  • Patent number: 9671876
Abstract: Resolution of perspective in three dimensions is necessary for intermeshing real players into simulated environments during virtual training exercises. With the advent of high resolution image sensors the ability to sense position and orientation using image capture devices is possible. The combination of small sized sensors and image recognition tracking algorithms allows the tracking element to be placed directly on the device whose perspective is desired. This provides a solution to determining perspective as it provides a direct measurement from the center axis of the observer. This invention employs a perspective tracking device to determine a point-of-gaze or a point-of-aim in a three-dimensional space to a high degree of accuracy. Point-of-gaze may be used to determine views for head mounted displays and aim-points for weapons. The invention may operate in an unconstrained space allowing simulation participants to operate in a larger, open environment.

  • Patent number: 9666098
Abstract: A systems, methods, and products for language learning software that automatically extracts text from corpora using various natural-language processing product features, which can be combined with custom-designed learning activities to offer a needs-based, adaptive learning methodology. The system may receive a text, extract keywords pedagogically valuable to non-native language learning, assign a difficulty score to the text using various linguistic attributes of the text, generate a list of potential distractors for each keyword in the text to implement in learning activities, and topically tag the text against a taxonomy based on the content. This output is then used in conjunction with a series of learning activity-types designed to meet learners' language skill needs and then used to create dynamic, adaptive activities for them.

  • Patent number: 9633174
Abstract: Actively engaging members in managing their own healthcare, improving their health, and reducing healthcare costs to the payer involves providing a unified interface for member engagement. The interface may be communicatively coupled with a healthcare system, may be personalized to the member, and may offer multiple possible rewards to the member to encourage member behavior to effectively reduce healthcare costs and improve the quality of healthcare plans. The interface may provide the member with a pathway guiding the member to engage in activities to achieve short-term, intermediate and long-term goals for which actions are presented. Goals or actions may be predefined and may additionally be selected by the member. When member-engagement in the actions is verified, rewards may be granted to the member's account. In connection with such member engagement, the healthcare system collects member information, applies rules to that information, and generates alerts from those rules.
