  • Patent number: 4779765
Abstract: A dual air system for separately conveying fertilizer and seed in an implement such as an air drill or air seeder which includes an adjustable divider arrangement for providing a small amount of starter fertilizer to be placed with the seed. The total fertilizer metered by a fluted feed wheel is divided into two streams by an adjustable knife plate. A pivoting baffle plate resting against the knife plate deflects one of the two fertilizer portions to the fertilizer air system. The other fertilizer stream is delivered to the seed air system. The overall rate of fertilizer application may be adjusted without affecting the total amount of fertilizer provided to the seed air system.

  • Patent number: 4779775
Abstract: A casting nozzle designed such that the sticking of nonmetallic impurities to the outlet of the nozzle is prevented by blowing out a gas. The casting nozzle comprises a nozzle proper, an annular hollow chamber for gas blowing formed in the axial direction of the nozzle proper, and annularly arranged reticulate small holes for gas blowing communicating with the annular hollow chamber, the small holes opening at the outlet of the nozzle. The reticulate small holes are formed when organic filaments wound round a portion of the inside wall of the nozzle proper carbonize, volatilize, or shrink upon heating.

  • Patent number: 4776499
Abstract: A fluid dispensing container and method for its manufacture is disclosed. The container has an upper and lower portion defining an enclosed chamber. The upper and lower portions are sealed together. An expandable pouch for generating pressurizing gas is contained within the enclosed chamber. A dispensing valve is provided housed in a receptacle molded into the upper portion. In one embodiment, a cylindrical guard molded to the upper portion extends downwardly from the receptacle and is disposed around the valve. A cap frictionally secured to the guard retains the dispensing valve in the receptacle and closes off the cylindrical guard. The guard or cap includes suitable apertures for allowing fluid to reach the valve for dispensing the fluid. The guard and cap prevent the expandable bag from interfering with the operation of the dispensing valve. A method of manufacturing the container is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4776502
Abstract: During ceramic casting for the production of a molten bath it is often observed that the fire-resistant material becomes eroded and/or solid oxide phases are deposited. Both phenomena interfere with the smooth outflow of the molten bath. The present invention is intended, therefore, to provide an outflow which is stable in shape even when a molten bath is passed through, especially in multiple-sequence casting. To this end, the invention provides for ceramic casting with an envelope (10, 14) which is at least partly external and an internal insert (11, 14, 53) at a distance from the envelope (10, 14), the insert ( b 11, 14, 53) and envelope being connected together.

  • Patent number: 4773569
Abstract: Mustard, ketchup and similar pasty matter is metered out and served from a dispenser, including a container and an attachable outlet pipe of flexible material enclosing a valve member. The container has one plane end face, permitting it to stand upright during storage, and an opposite, truncated end face, to which the outlet pipe is attached at a threaded portion. A restriction at the truncated end face defines a seat for a valve member, which includes an upper big body and a lower small body interconnected by a rod. The length of this rod is selected so the big body is held mainly inside the threaded container portion, but lower than its seat when the small body rests against the lower end of the outlet pipe.

  • Patent number: 4773507
Abstract: An arrangement for mounting a lift driving device to the top part of a lift cage in a lift of the type wherein the driving device includes at least two horizontally spaced driving wheels, each of which engages a respective elongate flexible member. The driving device is supported by a separate mounting frame from which the lift cage is functionally suspended by a first vibration damping support for slight movement, and the mounting frame is disposed to bear against the lift cage through a second vibration damping support, the latter support being at least slightly resilient to permit inclination of the mounting frame relative to the lift cage. Power supply to the driving device is cut off in response to sensing excessive bias of the mounting frame or a predetermined minimum spacing between the mounting frame and the lift cage.

  • Patent number: 4772073
Abstract: A method for dispensing tufts of filaments from a filament stock box is described. The method includes providing a stock box for containing cut to length filament. The stock box has a front wall with at least one aperture in the lower portion thereof, a rear wall, side walls, and a base. When the box contains filament, the filament is oriented parallel to the planes containing the side wall, and the box defines a lower picking zone and an upper reservoir. The method includes providing a choke means for regulating the flow of filament from the reservoir into the picking zone so that the density of filament in the reservoir is greater than the density in the picking zone. The method also includes causing the rear wall in the lower portion thereof to vibrate against the adjacent filament ends while a tuft thereof is withdrawn through the aperture. The tufts so dispensed are then fused at an end and mounted on synthetic brush and broom blocks to form brushes or brooms or the like.

  • Patent number: 4768685
Abstract: A metallurgical vessel such as a tundish fitted with a slide gate at its underside for discharging its contents has the slide gate controlled by a drive that can be removed to another vessel when required. The drive comprises a hydraulic cylinder with a drive rod projecting from it and carrying a coupling releasably engageable with the slide gate. The cylinder and drive rod are clamped non-rotatably in use but when attaching or removing the drive they can be rotated about a common longitudinal axis to alternative angular positions in which the slide gate is coupled or uncoupled thereto. Changeover of the drive can be made quickly thereby. A double-ended drive constructed in this manner can be used with vessels having two controllable outflow devices and provides for an equally quick changeover.
