  • Patent number: 10273414
Abstract: A method for converting renewable energy source electricity and a hydrocarbon feedstock into a liquid fuel by providing a source of renewable electrical energy in communication with a synthesis gas generation unit and an air separation unit. Oxygen from the air separation unit and a hydrocarbon feedstock is provided to the synthesis gas generation unit, thereby causing partial oxidation reactions in the synthesis gas generation unit in a process that converts the hydrocarbon feedstock into synthesis gas. The synthesis gas is then converted into a liquid fuel.

  • Patent number: 10258920
Abstract: Oil wells at a certain stage of their production require Improved Oil Recovery (IOR) using a compatible and suitable saline fluid. To maintain production of such wells as they age further, IOR may advance to Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) using immiscible-CO2, miscible-CO2, and miscible CO2-based Water-Alternating-Gas (WAG). This invention provides innovative methods to satisfy the need for IOR and EOR fluids in oil-fields by effectively de-scaling saline streams, recovering waste heat from flue gas, and de-sulfurizing flue gas. The methods are also useful for any power plants or combined heat and power (CHP) co-generation plants (e.g., power-seawater desalination co-generation plants) at sea locations using seawater for cooling and/or for producing drinking water. The inventive methods obviate a variety of operating, economic and environmental problems not only in oil-fields but also in power plants and CHP co-generation plants.

  • Patent number: 10259735
Abstract: Scale forming ions in seawater and the like of saline streams cause engineering difficulties that severely restrict the potential productivity of any desalination method. This invention provides innovative de-scaling methods to effectively eliminate scale problems in desalination plants. As a result of such effective de-scaling methods, this invention also provides a new effective design for Multi-Stage Flash (MSF) desalination plants, which is based on what its coined a Brine-Forward (BF) concept. The BF-MSF concept is multi-boiling without supplying additional heat after the brine heater of each train, and multi-concentration without supplying additional seawater after the first train of the plant.

  • Patent number: 10259734
Abstract: This invention presents an innovative de-scaling step to effectively eliminate scale obstacles in desalination plants to: (1) allow better performance ratio by either reducing steam load or increasing distillate production, and thus more efficient and cost effective plants; (2) reduce the enormous volumes of the total required seawater (recycle brine and returned cooling seawater) and reject brine; (3) eliminate the addition of scale inhibitors and frequent shut-downs to remove scale buildup; and (4) minimize reduction in heat transfer coefficients. This invention, as a result of the effective de-scaling step, also presents a new effective design for Multi-Stage Flash (MSF) desalination plants, which is based on what its coined a Brine-Forward (BF) concept. The BF-MSF concept is multi-boiling without supplying additional heat after the train's brine heater, and multi-concentration without supplying additional seawater after the first train of the plant.
