Abstract: The invention is directed to an umbrella comprising a plurality of shingles attached to a webbed or mesh support. The umbrella includes a plurality of shingles attached in an overlapped orientation to a lower mesh layer. Each shingle is supported by a pair of grommets to prevent the shingles from moving and/or rotating in response to the wind. The shingles and mesh arrangement allow air to be vented through the umbrella canopy. As a result, the umbrella effectively resists wind and air gusts that commonly cause conventional umbrellas to be uprooted from the sand and/or damaged.
Abstract: A system for a dynamically orienting adjustable shelter is provided. The system generally comprises a base, lever arm, counterweight, boom, canopy, canopy supports, and support cables connected to said canopy supports. The boom and lever arm connect to the base in a way such that the boom may be in an upright position when a counterweight is placed on the lever arm. A canopy assembly may be rotatable attached boom in a way that allows it to rotate about said boom, which allows the canopy assembly to reduce the cross-sectional area of the canopy exposed to the wind. A cable may be attached to the front end of the canopy supports, which may prevent the back end of the canopy from tipping too far down when there is no wind that the system may use to stabilize the canopy by naturally reducing the cross-sectional area exposed thereto.
Abstract: The presently disclosed subject matter is directed to a sun shade assembly. Particularly, the assembly includes a sail that releasably attaches to a pair of ribs, providing shade to the user. At least one support arm can be used to reinforce the ribs. A mast provides height to the assembly and includes an anchor that allows the assembly to be secured into a support surface (e.g., sand). The ribs and support arms rotate about the mast, thereby self-adjusting the direction of sail in response to the wind blowing. The assembly further includes a tension adjuster that can be tightened or loosed to control the rotation of the ribs and support arms in response to wind conditions.
Abstract: Collapsible structures are disclosed. In one embodiment, the collapsible structure includes a plurality of hinges and a plurality of panels. The plurality of panels are swingably connected by the plurality of hinges so as to form at least one arch when the collapsible structure is in an erected state and so as to become at least one stack of the plurality of panels in a collapsed state. The panels allow for the collapsible structure to maintain its structural integrity when erected but to have a compact and transportable configuration when collapsed.
Abstract: A sunshade tent includes a frame assembly and sheet assemblies. The frame assembly includes legs, first and second rafters. Each of the legs include a first connection mechanism, horizontal connecting members configured to be fixedly attached to a first end of each of the legs, and a mounting base positioned proximal a second end of each of the legs. The first rafters are detachably attached to a corresponding one of the legs via the first connection mechanism at an inclination relative to the horizontal connecting members. At least one of the second rafters is fixedly attached to a corresponding one of the horizontal connecting members via second interlocking elements. Each of the sheet assemblies include grooves for detachably attaching to a corresponding one of the second rafters via first interlocking elements.
