  • Patent number: 4181320
Abstract: The invention is a protector for a trailer hitch assembly having a trailer hitch ball supported on a trailer hitch neck. The protector includes an integral covering member having an outer covering member surface and an inner covering member surface. The inner covering member surface defines an internal region capable of receiving the trailer hitch ball. An aperture in the covering member is defined by a plurality of resilient covering member fingers to receive the trailer hitch ball within the internal region of the integral covering member. The covering member fingers resiliently engage the trailer hitch neck to position the covering member relative to the trailer hitch assembly. The outer covering member surface may be established in the shape of a commercial product, such as an oil container, an outboard motor power head or the like. Written or color indicia may be included on the outer covering member surface distinctive of a trademark of the commercial product.

  • Patent number: 4180143
Abstract: A safety step assembly for use with vehicles such as trucks or the like is provided with spring biased mounting brackets to removably mount the step assembly on a vehicle without resort to permanent attachment means, and includes spring biased parallelogram support linkage which is automatically operated upon mounting and dismounting of a step by a user to swing the step between an inward raised storage position thereof and an outward lowered position of use. Engageable holding structure interposed in the swing path of the linkage blocks movement of the latter when the step is in the use position and maintains such linkage in an inclined position to impose a stabilizing force on the step, thereby securely holding the step in the use position thereof without fear of shifting or instability.

  • Patent number: 4171141
Abstract: The following specification discloses a vehicle reinforcing bar that can be used with a pickup truck body. In particular, one of the members of the bar is a U shaped member having mounting plates upon which it stands in the bed of the pickup truck. A pair of angularly oriented bracing members is attached at its ends both to the cross member of the U shaped member and to the bed or wheel wells of the truck. The bracing members are pivotally attached to the cross member of the U shaped member by means of collars. The pivotal mounting permits free rotation of the bracing members around the cross member. This allows the entire brace to be folded into a flattened configuration for shipment until it is installed in a truck. Upon installation by attachment of the free ends of the bracing members to plates on the wheel wells, the bracing members become fixed relative to the cross members, precluding further rotation.
