  • Patent number: 4141474
Abstract: A self-closing closure for a tube or package having a resilient wall for dispensing flowable material upon the application of pressure on the tube, utilizing a relatively stiff spider for supporting an outwardly extending valve stem having a closed outer surface and a diaphragm member having its periphery interconnected with the periphery of the spider to form a closure unit and its inner portion forming a valve with the valve stem. The diaphragm member is formed with a relatively thick flange substantially parallel with the walls of the tube for interconnection therewith, a relatively thin, resilient planar portion extending inwardly toward the stem, and a substantially tubular portion surrounding the stem and terminating in an open lip which makes a close, sliding fit with the outer surface of the stem. The resilient, planar portion of the diaphragm member is normally concave, being formed with an unstressed negative angle of substantially 5.degree. to 15.degree.

  • Patent number: 4141566
Abstract: A sled frame for the releasable attachment of a wheelchair. The sled frame includes a body portion supporting a pair of laterally spaced, horizontally disposed support members which, in turn, are sized to be disposed between the wheels of a wheelchair to support the frame of the wheelchair on the sled. The support members are each provided with a plurality of locking devices which releasably engage the frame of a wheelchair to securely lock the wheelchair to the sled. The sled frame further includes a pair of laterally spaced, longitudinally disposed ski runners. A steering runner provided at the forward end of the sled is attached to a steering post that extends upwardly through the frame and rearwardly toward the wheelchair support area such that an occupant of the wheelchair may grasp the steering wheel carried at the upper extending end of the steering post to facilitate the steering of the sled.

  • Patent number: 4139129
Abstract: A container is disclosed having a collapsible pouring spout in a top portion thereof. The pouring spout is nestable within the container in a preferred arrangement, and the container walls, container top and pouring spout are of integral or unitary construction having been blow molded. The spout has a partially removeable cover secured thereto in unitary fashion with a weakened tear line extending partially therearound, and the cover has an element thereon for withdrawal of the spout and partial removal of the cover. Additionally, a vent structure may be employed to assist in withdrawal of the spout from its nested position. Upon lifting of the withdrawal structure, the vent structure opens first. Thereafter, at the top of the spout withdrawal, the cover is partially removed along the tear line which terminates at a cover hinge means.

  • Patent number: 4138140
Abstract: Two-wheeled carts can be constructed so that their bodies can be manipulated between a normal, expanded configuration in which such carts can be used and a folded, relatively compact configuration in which such carts may be easily and conveniently stored. Such foldable carts include side walls, at least one of which is constructed so as to include two panels and a hinge connecting such panels in edge-to-edge relationship. A connector pivotally connects the side walls so that they can be manipulated so as to be moved generally toward one another as the structure is manipulated from the unfolded to the folded configuration. The extremities of these side walls are connected by end walls each of which consist of two wall sections connected in edge-to-edge relationship by center edge hinges. The wall sections have side edges which are connected to the sides by side edge hinges.

  • Patent number: 4134551
Abstract: A desirable emitter for use in drip irrigation can be constructed so as to utilize an elongated member formed of a flexible, resilient material so as to include at least one and preferably a number of internal ribs or projections which prevent the interior of the member from being closed off or pinched shut as it is deformed or flexed. Such a member is normally mounted so as to extend into an enclosed space such as the interior of an irrigation tube or conduit in such a manner that water can flow from the interior to the exterior of the space through the member. The liquid within the space can be controlled so as to exert a force against the exterior of the emitter causing it to be deformed or flexed in such a manner as to vary the flow through the member.

  • Patent number: 4133556
Abstract: A seat bottom and a seat back are pivotally mounted for movement between a normal seating position and a cargo floor position. A seat belt includes a strap having one end anchored on the vehicle body, a buckle attached to the other end of the strap, and a plastic stiffening boot which extends through the gap between the seat back and the seat bottom to position the buckle element in an occupant accessible position. A spring urges the boot into engagement with the seat back to establish the boot and buckle in a normal position in which the seat bottom may be pivoted between the normal seating position and the pivoted position without interference with the boot or buckle. The spring yields when the seat back is pivoted forwardly to the cargo floor position and then returns the seat belt to the normal occupant accessible position when the seat back is returned to its normal seating position.

  • Patent number: 4122979
Abstract: A squeeze bottle containing a liquid product, such as antiperspirant and the like, has a dispensing nozzle internally forming a swirl chamber having opposed orifices each having its own inlet. One inlet is connected with a dip tube that dips into the liquid when the bottle is upright, and the other inlet connects with an air space above the liquid when the bottle is upright. When the bottle is squeezed, the swirl chamber receives opposed jets of the liquid and air, producing an atomized spray. When the bottle is inverted, the dip tube opens into the air space formed in the bottom of the inverted bottle, while the other inlet is connected with the liquid so that again opposed liquid and air jets enter the swirl chamber.
