Abstract: A machining device comprising five axial kinetic coordinate systems that can be controlled simultaneously, three axes of which are linear moving axes and two axes of which are rotary axes, with one axis of the five axes being provided with a tool rotating function, whereby said machining device is equipped with a cutting tool 51 and a friction stir welding tool 52. The current value observed when a large-diameter portion of said tool 52 contacts the work object is set in advance, and by observing the torque current of the rotary shaft of the tool 52 during friction stir welding, the insertion depth of the tool 52 can be controlled by maintaining the observed torque current above the preset current value, thus providing a good weld. A single device can provide both the cutting and the welding. Thus, it is possible to reduce equipment cost, installation space, plant area, lead time and production cost.
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods of fixturing and processing flexible circuit substrates. Flexible circuit substrates are removably coupled with a processing carrier in certain aspects of the invention. Such coupling is preferably void of any adhesive. According to preferred embodiments of the present invention, the coupling surface is configured for reuse and a second flexible circuit substrate is positioned upon the coupling surface following the removal of the first flexible circuit substrate therefrom. Ideally, the coupling surface remains upon the processing carrier during the separation of a flexible circuit substrate from the coupling surface.

A buoyant core body is formed from buoyant core material into a shape approximating that of a desired animal. The core body may include a head or be headless. Abstract: An ornament is provided that is useful in causing negative ions to be generated from the surface, thereby improving the immunity strength, improving psychological stability and bodily functions, improving the discharge of egesta and the function of the respiratory organs, and reducing fatigue of the person wearing the ornament. The ornament includes a plating layer which is formed by mixing a pulverized multiple element mineral powder and a pulverized sandstone powder. The negative ions are always generated, which act on the blood of a human body and put the human body in a state that is slightly inclined towards negative ions, thereby causing the body to be balanced, the metabolism to become activated, and the body to become healthy and resistant to aging.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for sizing a galvanized tube, in which two sizing stations are used. A first sizing station having at least one sizing roll is used for sizing the tube prior to the galvanizing process. A second sizing station is then used, the station having at least one resilient sizing roll which is used for sizing the tube after the galvanizing process. By using a first sizing stand, which does most of the sizing work, the rolls in the second sizing stand need not pull the galvanized tubes with as much force. The advantage of the present invention is that cooler temperatures, faster mill speeds, and less cosmetic flaws in the finished galvanized product are seen, due to the lower force applied by the second sizing stand rolls to the galvanized product.
Abstract: Setting of gems is accomplished by applying torque to flanges which extend from prongs that hold the gem in the setting. The flanges form integral lever extensions to provide a secure handle by which a force or torque can be applied without the risk of slipping and damaging the setting or gemstone. Notches or bendable sections of the prongs are located at grip locations and when the prongs engage the gemstone, the prong bends about the bendable section to secure the gem. To set a gem, the worker applies a clamping tool to individual ones of the levers, which results in the prong bending inward and gently twisting over the gemstone in a controlled manner. This allows the worker to control the pressure applied to the stone by the prong, thus limiting breakage of the gem. The levers are then removed from each prong by cutting and/or grinding, and the surface of each prong is then polished.
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a wheel rim for a two-piece vehicle wheel assembly. The method includes the step of providing a one-piece alloy wheel form defining an integrally-formed annular rim blank and a rigidifying flange. The rim blank includes first and second edge portions. At least one of the first and second edge portions of the rim blank is shaped. After the shaping step, the one-piece wheel form is cut to separate the shaped wheel rim from the rigidifying flange.
Abstract: A method of controlling the spring rate of a spring region of an unassembled load beam for a disk drive head suspension by partially etching the spring region and providing the partially etched spring region with a number of bridges which may then selectively opened to achieve a target spring rate. Adjusting the spring rate before assembly of the load beam enables tighter control of resulting performance characteristics of the head suspension. In one aspect, a data set of spring rate reductions corresponding to bridge sets removed is predetermined and used with the corresponding type of load beam to determine the bridges to remove to approximate the target spring rate.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for making a shaped-spring assembly. The method and apparatus utilizes a spring forming apparatus which facilitates the forming of shaped springs without adversely effecting the characteristics of the spring, and a magazine arrangement which stores and loads shaped springs, while maintaining the shape of the springs. The magazine arrangement further permits the storage of a plurality of the shaped springs without fatiguing a leading edge of the spring. With the apparatus and method of the present invention, it is possible to load empty shaped spring cavities at a select location, such as at a field site, and also have a steady supply of shaped springs available for quick replacement. The forming apparatus is designed so as to easily cooperate and/or be mounted onto the magazine arrangement so as to facilitate the transfer of shape springs which are shaped by the forming apparatus into the magazine arrangement.

Abstract: A method of making pairs of thread splits inserts used to injection mold bottle preforms. Machining a hollow outer part of the pair of thread split inserts with an opening therethrough and outer portions of two cooling conduits extending from the opening therethrough to respective inlets and outlets. Making an inner part of the pair of thread split inserts by injection molding a ceramic core with the required shape and investment casting the inner part around the ceramic core. The outer surface of the inner part having grooves to partially form inner portions of the two cooling fluid conduits. Then machining the cast inner part to fit in the opening through the outer part. Mounting the outer part around the inner part with the inner and outer portions of the two cooling fluid conduits aligned. Applying brazing material between the inner and outer parts and heating them in a vacuum furnace to integrally braze them together.
