  • Patent number: 6152053
Abstract: A method and an assembly for efficiently converting waste water to a gaseous state in a fossil fuel-fired power generation system is provided. The method includes feeding the slurry to the spray dryer reactor, the slurry having a predetermined ratio of liquid to absorbent, and controlling the feed rate of the slurry into the spray dryer reactor as a function of the monitored sulfur oxide level such that the sulfur oxide level is maintained within an acceptable range. The method also includes supplying supplemental liquid in the form of waste water into the spray dryer reactor in a non-proportionate manner relative to the feed of absorbent into the spray dryer reactor such that the ratio of liquid to absorbent in the spray dryer reactor changes.

  • Patent number: 6151794
Abstract: An apparatus for heat treating an object and specifically a substantially flat object described. The apparatus may be a hot plate post-baking apparatus for heat treating a substantially flat object such as a photomask used in a semiconductor photolithographic process. The apparatus is provided with an upper heat reflector plate that is equipped with upwardly curved edge portions such that the amount of heat reflected by the reflector can be controlled and the center region on the substantially flat object can be temperature compensated for achieving more uniform temperature profile across the entire surface of the mask. By utilizing the heat reflector plate in a post-baking apparatus, the normally observed 5.degree. C. temperature difference across a mask surface is substantially eliminated.

  • Patent number: 6151795
Abstract: A material drying apparatus having a sealable chamber for receipt of wet material, such as clothing. Material placed into the chamber is dried upon the evacuation of air from the chamber wherein moisture drawn from the material is condensed on a condensate coil placed in the chamber. Heating coils placed around the chamber or beneath a drawer elevate the temperature to enhance condensate operation providing an energy efficient material dryer requiring no make-up air. Drum or thermal blanket enhances temperature elevation. Condensed water is purged after the drying process although provisions provide for an interim purge should excess liquid be drawn from the material.

  • Patent number: 6148542
Abstract: A method of manufacturing an information carrier which cures an adhesive by means of UV radiation in an inert-gas atmosphere. The adhesive is interposed as an adhesive layer between two superposed layers of a disc-shaped information carrier. The device includes a UV source, a supplier for an inert gas, and a holder for holding the information carrier in a centered position with respect to a centering axis. The inert-gas supplier has discharge openings for inert gas, situated in a circular zone around the centering axis, at a distance from the centering axis which substantially corresponds to the radius of the peripheral edge of the information carrier, so as to cause inert gas to flow past the peripheral edge during curing, as a result of which locally present oxygen which would interfere with curing is expelled.

  • Patent number: 6148543
Abstract: In the present method of drying iron ore pellets, e.g., magnetite pellets, moisture-containing iron ore pellets are formed into a bed comprising a multiplicity of the pellets. A current of drying gas is forced upwardly through the bed of pellets to at least partially dry some of the pellets. A plurality of pipes, each having an opening such as an elongated slot provides counter-current jets of a drying gas above the bed. The drying gas jets are directed downwardly so as to impinge on the upper surface of the bed through which the current of drying gas rises. The bed of pellets is thus dried with the current of drying gas flowing through the bed from below as well as the jets of drying gas impinging onto the upper surface of the bed. In a preferred form of the invention, in a second stage downwardly directed jets of drying gas are used together with a downward current of drying gas to further dry the pellets before they are fired.

  • Patent number: 6148774
Abstract: The present invention relates to water heater (12) construction whereby thermal insulation material is foamed in the clearance space between the tank and shell of the water heater, wherein the foamed insulation material has lesser uniformity in cell structure and density and a lesser or smaller density in the upper portion of the volume of foam which is disposed over the top of the inner water tank than in the lower portion of the volume of foam insulation material disposed around the side of the inner water tank. The present invention provides gas and electric water heaters with improved energy efficiency, utilizing a liquid, foam-in-place composite foam insulation system. The present invention further provides an improved method for insulating the annular clearance space between an inner water tank and an outer enclosure of a gas or electric water heater.

  • Patent number: 6149707
Abstract: This is a method for pyrocleaning that degreases metal components using an oven, an oxidizer, a system gas supply, a system gas exhaust, and heat exchangers. The degreasing is accomplished by first transporting the metal components through the oven and exposing the oil coated metal components to hot gases which have a temperature above the vaporization point of the oil. The hot gases are introduced into the oven by way of the system gas supply that does not include products of combustion (indirect heating). Since the gases are at a temperature above the vaporization point of the oil, upon contact with the metal components, the gases cause the oil to evaporate from the metal components. The resultant hydrocarbon-filled surrounding gases are then evacuated from the oven and transported to the oxidizer. In the oxidizer, the hydrocarbon-filled gases are exposed to a burner that catalyzes the oxidation process. After exiting from the oxidizer, the hydrocarbon-free gases are discharged into the atmosphere.

  • Patent number: 6142772
Abstract: The invention relates to a movable tunnel kiln for clay product manufacture and a production process system employing a tunnel kiln. Provided a kiln bottom of the tunnel kiln is fixed and takes a circular shape, the kiln body is circular and movable, road wheels moving on a circular railway are installed on both sides of the kiln body. A circular raw material aging pit concentric with kiln bottom is installed at the site inside the circular kiln bottom, and a complete brickmaking equipment is installed at the central part of the site. An operation mode of stationary bricks stack with movable kiln body is adopted in the invention, which changes the conventional operation of loading and unloading for the brick, and a plurality of cars with auxiliary facilities are cancelled, thereby greatly reduces the kiln construction cost.

  • Patent number: 6139425
Abstract: An air mixer for an air distribution system for a building includes a set of fixed, substantially parallel partitions arranged in a spaced-apart, side-by-side manner, these partitions forming alternating primary and secondary air passageways. The primary air passageways are open-ended and extend from a front side to a rear side of the mixer. Front end plates extend respectively across front sides of the secondary air passageways and each has elongate edge portions extending along two opposite longitudinal edges thereof. Each elongate edge portion projects beyond the plane defined by an adjacent one of the partitions. Air flow splitters are mounted in the secondary air passageways and each is connected to an adjacent pair of the partitions. These splitters in operation of the mixer turn incoming air flow that enters the secondary air passageways towards the front end plates.
