  • Patent number: 6122838
Abstract: A method and apparatus for drying grain which includes a method and apparatus for unloading the grain from a grain dryer of a type including spaced apart first and second walls for defining a passageway or grain column for directing grain flowing downwardly by gravity between the first and second walls. A substantially horizontal shelf is disposed below the outlet port of the grain confinement walls for receiving grain thereon from the grain column. A channel is disposed below the shelf for receiving grain which is pushed off of the shelf. A discharge port is disposed in the channel. A strip of material is disposed for moving along above the shelf for metering grain from the shelf to the channel as the strip moves along the shelf. A paddle is disposed for movement in the channel for pushing grain from the channel into the discharge port. The dryer also has a central air passage from top to bottom, which lends itself to being used for three mode drying, if desired.

  • Patent number: 6115938
Abstract: A machine for producing a material web, including a paper or cardboard web, having a plurality of cylinders around which the material web is guided in a meandering path together with a conveyor (transport) belt. The machine further includes at least one air conveying device disposed in the transfer region between two cylinders. The air conveying device associates with the free circumference region of a cylinder and aspirates the material web as the material web travels in a path free from contact with the cylinders as the material web travels between two succeeding cylinders. The material web and the conveyor belt are partially wound around the circumference region of the cylinders. According to the invention, the air conveying device only covers certain areas of the free circumference region of the cylinder on which the material web (paper web) winds.

  • Patent number: 6112429
Abstract: A method and apparatus for processing whole head vegetables, characterized by a core end, and an open leafy end, is disclosed. Whole head vegetables pass through a washer which has a bottom belt which runs through the length of the washing line and passes through a first and a second tank (or more tanks) of cleaning water. Between the first and second cleaning tanks, a plurality of spray bars further clean the whole head vegetables. Top belts at each of the cleaning tanks above the bottom belt to secure the produce as it passes through the first cleaning tank and through the second cleaning tank. The lower belt, and the upper belts are controlled by a single speed control system resulting in less damage to the produce. Additionally, the angle of the belts conveying the produce through the two cleaning tanks is chosen for optimum performance.

  • Patent number: 6112675
Abstract: A process and apparatus for recovering and treating hazardous and non-hazardous components from process streams generated from a continuous system for selectively separating organic and inorganic constituents from contaminated material. The contaminated material is heated in a dryer to a first temperature sufficient to volatilize water and lower boiling point constituents contained in the material, thereby producing a dried solid material and a first gas containing water vapor and volatilized lower boiling point constituents. The first gas is separated from the dried solid material. The lower boiling point constituents are recovered from the first gas. The dried solid material is heated in a desorber to a second temperature sufficient to volatilize higher boiling point constituents contained in the dried material, thereby producing a substantially decontaminated solid material and a second gas containing volatilized higher boiling point constituents.

  • Patent number: 6108927
Abstract: Equipment provides more rapid drying of heating parts comprising hygroscopic, electric insulation made of cellulose and/or plastics. At least two condensers are present, one being used when heating the parts and the other in the distillation stage. As a result removal by distillation is possible any time during heating and during the time intervals when heating is interrupted and the pressure-dropping procedure is carried out in the vacuum vessel. Due to the second condenser (with a second, associated vacuum pump), the heating medium can be cleansed or distilled during the pressure-dropping procedure and simultaneously the suction or drying procedure can be carried out in the vacuum vessel. This feature leads to drying the electrical parts more rapidly than heretofore because the steps of drying the electrical parts and regenerating the heating medium no longer require being consecutive, but instead regeneration can be implemented simultaneously with the evacuation of the vicinity around the electrical parts.

  • Patent number: 6108933
Abstract: A device cures an adhesive by means of UV radiation in an inert-gas atmosphere. The adhesive is interposed as an adhesive layer between two superposed layers of a disc-shaped information carrier. The device includes a UV source, a supplier for an inert gas, and a holder for holding the information carrier in a centered position with respect to a centering axis. The inert-gas supplier has discharge openings for inert gas, situated in a circular zone around the centering axis, at a distance from the centering axis which substantially corresponds to the radius of the peripheral edge of the information carrier, so as to cause inert gas to flow past the peripheral edge during curing, as a result of which locally present oxygen which would interfere with curing is expelled.

  • Patent number: 6105275
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for use in continuously loading material to be treated into a rotary vacuum retort and continuously unloading one or more vapors or similar volatile substances and treated material out of the rotary vacuum retort during high temperature and high vacuum processing. The loading and unloading are performed in a manner that minimizes the introduction of low boiling point gases. The apparatus employs, in one preferred embodiment, elastomeric pinch valve airlocks to isolate the entire system between the airlocks and a vacuum generator. Furthermore, the material being treated may be dried in a dryer prior to introduction into the retort. Moreover, the processed material can be cooled through a heat exchanger to permit the use of a low temperature pinch valve airlock on the discharge end of the process.
