An icon may be generated from a media item depicting a user and a mood of the user. For example, an icon may be generated from a media item comprising one or more of still image, video, audio, multimedia, etc. content. An icon may comprise content from one or more media items and/or content portions of one or more media items. An icon may comprise a textual component, such as for example a textual title or description of the mood, tone, motion being portrayed using the icon.

Abstract: Focus requests to display applications are received, each focus request associated with at least one application from the applications. Application context from metadata tags describing content of the application is received. User context associated with information about a status of a user interacting with the computer system is received. Display priority of the applications based on the application context and the user context is determined. A list of the applications based on the display priority is created. The applications are displayed in windows in the graphical user interface environment based on the list.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a user interface system based on a treemap-type presentation includes a processor and a memory. The processor is operative to store data for items which can be invoked, generate data for a user interface screen having regions arranged according to an arrangement, at least some of the regions being different sizes and being arranged according to size order, assign at least some of the items to the regions, receive user selections from an input device, determine which item is being selected for each user selection, refresh an assignment of the items among the regions of the user interface screen so that even though the assignment of the items among the regions is changed as a result of the refreshment, the arrangement and sizes of the regions in the user interface screen remain unchanged. Related apparatus and methods are also described.

The user-designed thumb-operated touchscreen keyboard is implemented as a touchscreen display user input interface to the processor.

Abstract: A method for generating a cover photo for presenting on a profile page includes receiving a request from a user to generate a cover photo for presenting on a profile page of the user account. A user interface identifying a plurality of slots for inserting the pictures/assets selected by the user, is presented at the profile page in response to the request. User selection of pictures/assets for placement in the plurality of slots at the user interface, is received. The pictures/assets are examined for assembling the selected picture/asset into a mosaic. The examination determines open slots that are available for inserting the pictures/assets and a sequence of insertion of the pictures/assets into each of the open slots in the user interface. A unified cover photo is generated by stitching together the one or more pictures/assets selected by the user based on sequence of insertion obtained through examination.

Abstract: The disclosed technology includes controlling the differentiation of gestures in a graphical user interface (GUI). In one implementation, a GUI has a first region including a first interactive user interface object, a second region including a second interactive user interface object, and a third region without any interactive user interface objects. The method can include receiving an indication of a first input at the first user interface object within the first region, and increasing, in response and for a dwell time, a size of the third region, wherein the resized third region overlays a portion of the second region. After resizing, the GUI may decline to perform an action associated with the second user interface object in the second region when a second input is received near the second user interface object and within the resized third region.
