  • Patent number: 5986631
Abstract: A driving method of an active matrix LCD is provided. According to this method, a scan signal has three voltage levels, i.e., an ON voltage Vg, an OFF voltage Voff and a compensation voltage Ve having the opposite polarity with respect to the OFF voltage Voff. In contrast with the conventional capacitively coupled driving method in which the scan signal consists of four voltages, the driving method of this invention can reduce a cost and power consumption for a driver IC without degradation due to flickers or other causes. The method for adjusting the brightness of the LCD accompanying this driving method as well as the method for optimizing design parameters of the compensation voltage Ve and a thin film transistor of the LCD are also described.

  • Patent number: 5973707
Abstract: A scan converting method of converting image data from a raster sequence scan to a block sequence scan to divide the image data into blocks each having predetermined vertical width and lateral width and converting the image data from the block sequence scan to the raster sequence scan. One block buffer having a size in which a vertical width is set to the vertical width of the block and a lateral width is set to the horizontal width of the raster is used. Raster data by the raster sequence scan is written into the block buffer. The block data by the block sequence scan is read out. The block data is written and the raster data is read out. Upon conversion from the raster sequence scan to the block sequence scan, the block buffer is read out by the block sequence scan, the raster data is written into empty addresses which are caused by the reading, and the read address by the next block sequence scan is obtained by a predetermined arithmetic operation on the basis of the order of writing.

  • Patent number: 5963194
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for inclination detection wherein infrared transmitted signal, signal groups S1, S2, S3, . . . including a leader code, a parity bit and bits for data transfer are sequentially transmitted with an interval time t3. At each bit of the signal group S1, "1" and "0" of a binary signal expressing the data are not inverted, at the signal group S2, "1"and "0" expressing the data are inverted, and inversion and non-inversion are repeated every signal group. At bits of each signal group, since a time length expresses "1" and "0", a total time length of each signal group is different from that of other signal group. By repeating sets of inverted and non-inverted signal groups, the time length of each set is averaged, and hence, data processing can be made more efficient.

  • Patent number: 5956005
Abstract: There is disclosed an electrocapillary display sheet which utilizes three transparent sheets being spaced from each other and placed parallel to each other. The medial sheet has a plurality of reservoirs which are filled with a dyed or pigmented ink. Each of the reservoirs has an individually addressable voltage source to create an individual electric field. By activating each electric field, the ink from the corresponding reservoir flows out into the space between the medial sheet and one of the other two sheets in order to create a pixel. By removing the electric filed, the liquid which had created a pixel will retreat back into the reservoir.

  • Patent number: 5940067
Abstract: In one embodiment, a computer graphics system (100) stores pixel data in a combined look-up table value/lighting modulation value format (RLUT8L4) in a display back buffer (110). Data in the back buffer (110) are transferred to a front buffer (112) by a look-up and modify bit block transfer operation (LMBLT) (118). The LMBLT (118) looks up the look-up table value portion (RLUT8) of the pixel data in a render look-up table (RLUT) (116) to generate fully-lit color components of the pixel (CR, CG, CB). The color components are multiplied by the lighting value (L4) to generate a lighting modified pixel (RGB).According to another embodiment, pixel data are stored in the back buffer (110) and a front buffer (206) in the combined format (RLUT8L4). The buffers (110 and 206) are swapped according to conventional double buffering techniques. Pixel data are used to generate analog display device control signals by a look-up and modify digital-to-analog converter (LMDAC) (312).

  • Patent number: 5929838
Abstract: A digital acquisition system maximizes the number of points captured when a user issues a stop command, while maximizing the update rate during continuous operation. In essence, the present invention utilizes an optimum update rate (i.e., set so as to capture a minimum number of points), while operating in a continuous fashion. Upon receiving a stop command for the user, the present invention sets up to take a deep memory acquisition at a slower update rate (i.e., set so as to capture a maximum number of points). If a trigger is received within a predetermined period of time after the stop command is received, then a deep memory acquisition is taken, and the captured points are displayed to the user for viewing. If a trigger is not received within the predetermined period of time after the stop command is received, then the last acquisition taken at the optimum update rate remains displayed for viewing by the user.
