  • Patent number: 8866422
Abstract: An inverter and a control unit that has a command signal processing unit and a PWM frequency control unit and performs pulse width modulation control are provided. If the command signal processing unit has received a first PWM frequency command signal, it outputs a low PWM frequency command signal so that synchronous or asynchronous PWM control is performed at a PWM frequency in a predetermined frequency range. The command signal processing unit outputs a high PWM frequency command signal so that synchronous or asynchronous PWM control is performed at a higher frequency than the above-mentioned frequency if the command signal processing unit has received a second PWM frequency command signal and until a predetermined time period elapses. The command signal processing unit outputs a low PWM frequency command signal if it has received the second PWM frequency command signal and after the predetermined time period elapsed.

  • Patent number: 8847527
Abstract: An estimation section calculates estimated currents corresponding to switching modes, which are provisionally set by a mode setting section. A mode determination section determines one of modes, which has a smallest difference between the estimated currents and command currents, to be a final switching mode. A drive section drives an inverter in the switching mode determined by the determination section. The estimation section uses transient-state inductances as coefficients of time differentiation of currents in voltage equations used for estimation of the estimated currents. These are different from steady-state inductances, which are coefficients of multiplication of currents and electric angular velocity.

  • Patent number: 8847524
Abstract: Braking current generated by an electrical motor on mining equipment during a retard interval is switched through one or more grid resistors that are liquid cooled. Under low ambient temperatures, a heating current can be switched through the grid resistors when the electrical motor is not operating in a retard interval. An integrated cooling system can be used to cool grid resistors and power modules. Heat dissipated by the grid resistors and the power modules can be circulated through auxiliary heating loops to heat portions of the mining equipment under low ambient temperatures. Multiple liquid-cooled power modules, liquid-cooled grid resistors, auxiliary heating loops, control modules, radiators, and pumps can be coupled by a liquid distribution system with various combinations of parallel and serial branches. Temperature, pressure, and flow rate in each branch can be independently controlled. Operation of the integrated cooling system can be controlled by a computational system.

  • Patent number: 8841870
Abstract: In a driver, a changing module changes a rate of discharging the control terminal of a switch at least between a first value and a second value lower than the first value. A measuring module measures a value of a parameter as a function of a current flowing through the conductive path of the switch during a drive signal being in an on state. A control module controls the changing module, as a function of the value of the parameter, to select the first value or the second value as the rate of discharging the control terminal of the switch upon the drive signal directing a change from the on state of the switch to an off state thereof. The control module discharges the control terminal of the switch using the selected value as the rate of discharging the control terminal of the switch.

  • Patent number: 8829836
Abstract: In a driver, a charging module stores negative charge on the gate of a switching element via a normal electrical path to charge the switching element upon a drive signal representing change of an on state to an off state. This shifts the on state of the switching element to the off state. An adjusting module changes a value of a parameter correlating with a charging rate of the switching element through the normal electrical path as a function of an input signal to the driver. The input signal represents a current flowing through the conductive path, a voltage across both ends of the conductive path, or a voltage at the gate. A disabling module disables the adjusting module from changing the value of the parameter if the drive signal represents the on state of the switching element.

  • Patent number: 8816621
Abstract: A PWM output apparatus includes a calculating circuit configured to calculate an output width of a PWM output signal of a first signal and a second signal, which have phases different from each other, based on a command value of a PWM output. A comparing circuit compares the output width and a reference period which is set longer than a predetermined dead time period. A PWM output signal generating circuit outputs the PWM output signal to a dead time inserting block as a corrected PWM output signal, when a set/clear signal generating circuit outputs the set signal, and carries out a correction of setting the first signal of the PWM output signal to be inactive to output to the dead time inserting block as the corrected PWM output signal, when the set/clear circuit outputs the clear signal. The dead time inserting block corrects the corrected PWM output signal.
