  • Patent number: 6641110
Abstract: A binary balance seal assembly for use in a balanced pressure valve having a valve housing and a valve plug movable within the housing between an open position and a closed position. The seal assembly comprises an annular primary seal which is adapted to be retained within the valve housing. The primary seal is deformable into sealed engagement with the outer surface of the valve plug when pressure is applied to the primary seal as occurs upon the movement of the valve plug from its closed position toward its open position. In addition to the primary seal, the seal assembly includes an annular secondary seal which is adapted to be retained within the valve plug itself. The secondary seal is movable into sealed engagement with a portion of the valve housing when the valve plug is moved to its closed position so as to prevent upstream pressure from causing fluid to leak downstream of the valve plug.

  • Patent number: 6629683
Abstract: A draining-preventing device of a pneumatic-and-electromotive driving valve is disclosed. A driving shaft is installed at a center of a receiving tube of a joint and a lower end of the joint is buckled with a ball valve. The driving shaft and the ball valve rotates synchronously with the pneumatic-and-electromotive driving valve. A tightening sleeve is locked between the receiving tube and the driving shaft. A top surface of the tightening sleeve has an adjusting nut and the adjusting nut has a plurality of adjusting holes. When the draining-preventing washer becomes hard or deforms, so that that the force of the tightening sleeve is insufficient, and therefore, a gap is formed between the tightening sleeve and the joint. Thus water can be stop completely. Furthermore, by a supporting frame, a tray is supported at two sides and other portion is hollowed. If water drains out, it can be known immediately.

  • Patent number: 6629962
Abstract: The present invention seeks to provide an improved needle design and needle assembly which is particularly adapted for live vaccines and the like. More specifically, the needle assembly includes a gap filler with an inner funnel which is specifically shaped and adapted to fill a turbulence gap naturally formed between a conventional needle retainer and syringe. By maintaining a laminar flow of the fluid, the turbulence and the destruction of live cells are reduced. Additionally, some of the needle designs include a funnel-shaped mouth which is utilized during the filling of the syringe to minimize physical damage to the cell wall or membrane of the live cells otherwise caused by the sharp edges at the tip of a standard injection needle. A breakaway needle assembly is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6626854
Abstract: Cells are destroyed within a subcutaneous tissue region using a transducer disposed externally adjacent to a patient's skin. The transducer emits acoustic energy that is focused at a linear focal zone within the tissue region, the acoustic energy having sufficient intensity to rupture cells within the focal zone while minimizing heating. The transducer may include one or more transducer elements having a partial cylindrical shape, a single planar transducer element coupled to an acoustic lens, or a plurality of linear transducer elements disposed adjacent one another in an arcuate or planar configuration. The transducer may include detectors for sensing cavitation occurring with the focal zone, which is correlated to the extent of cell destruction. A frame may be provided for controlling movement of the transducer along the patient's skin, e.g., in response to the extent of cell destruction caused by the transducer.

  • Patent number: 6622983
Abstract: A valve for controlling a flow of pressurized abrasive particles to a machine includes a valve body that defines a particle chamber having an inlet port and an exit orifice. A tapered valve seat surrounds the exit orifice. A shaft having a nose piece is positioned within the particle chamber. The shaft is movable between a closed position, where the nose piece engages the valve seat so that particles cannot pass through the exit orifice, and an open position, where particles are free to flow out of the exit orifice. A flexible barrier surrounds the shaft and separates the particle chamber from the actuating mechanism to prevent abrasive particles from damaging the actuating mechanism. A clean chamber is positioned between the shaft actuating mechanism and the barrier and is pressurized to a pressure generally equal to that of the particle chamber to prevent damage to the barrier.
