  • Patent number: 9871578
Abstract: An uplink power control system and a machine-implemented method for determining clear sky and adjusting uplink power are provided. A receiving station, which may be a satellite terminal or a satellite gateway, receives a reference signal from a satellite. The reference signal may be sampled over a sampling time period in order to compute a filtered short-term average downlink SINR. A filtered long-term average downlink SINR may be adjusted toward the filtered short-term average downlink SINR using either a first time constant or second time constant, based on a relationship between the filtered long-term average downlink SINR and the filtered short-term average downlink SINR. In some implementations, the second time constant is less than the first time constant.

  • Patent number: 9807651
Abstract: A user equipment (UE) operating in a communication system comprising a base station and one or more UEs. The UE may be configured to operate on or “camp” on two different networks with one radio. In this exemplary system, the radio may be normally connected to the first network (NW1) and may from time to time be “tuned away” from NW1 to a second network (NW2). The UE may inform NW1 that it has tuned away to another network, e.g., using start and end indicators. This information may prevent NW1 from wasting downlink capacity by unnecessarily allocating downlink resources to the UE during the tune-away. Alternatively, or in addition, this information may prevent NW1 from penalizing the UE, e.g., by reducing its future downlink allocations, since the UE does not respond to NW1 commands during the tune-away.

  • Patent number: 9591563
Abstract: Teachings herein schedule a data transmission in a variable bandwidth wireless communication system based on the power efficiency of a mobile node. One or more processing circuits, of the mobile node or a network node, determine the value of a control setting that defines a power efficiency configuration of the mobile node. In one embodiment, for example, the power efficiency configuration indicates the mobile node is configured to operate at the maximum power efficiency attainable without the data rate of the data transmission falling below a minimum data rate required by a quality of service. Regardless, the one or more processing circuits select from different possible bandwidths of the data transmission a bandwidth that supports a given data rate and that, according to a power efficiency model that models power efficiency of the mobile node for the different possible bandwidths, yields a power efficiency comporting with the power efficiency configuration.

  • Patent number: 9578603
Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure provide an uplink power control method, a user equipment and a base station. The method comprises: receiving configuration information of a channel state information reference signal CSI-RS from the base station, wherein the configuration information of the CSI-RS comprises reference signal port information and reference signal power information; and measuring a path loss for uplink power control based on the configuration information of the CSI-RS. The embodiments of the present disclosure use the CSI-RS to measure the path loss, which differs from a common CRS in that the CSI-RS may aim at a specific base station. Therefore, path loss measurement may be performed in respect of a target base station of uplink transmission, enabling the path loss compensation to match the actual path loss, thus improving the performance of uplink power control.
