Patent number: 5295599Abstract: A multiple cap arrangement is provided to seal the open end of a container. The multiple cap seal includes a sealing cap and locking cap which are hingedly coupled to the open end of a container such as a disposable centrifuge container. The sealing cap is lodged in the open end of the container and the locking cap coupled to the sealing cap by a mechanism that retains the caps essentially fixed relative to one another. With the caps coupled in this way, stress, resulting from pressure in the container, is transferred through the caps to the hinges. The hinges are sized to prevent axial movement of the interlocked sealing and locking cap structure away from the container. Since the hinges resist stretching even under substantial tension, the container remains reliably sealed even when the pressures in the container are very high.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 1992Date of Patent: March 22, 1994Assignee: Innervision, Inc.Inventor: James C. Smith

Patent number: 5295601Abstract: A caulk cartridge cap is designed to enable the storage of unused portions of products of the types supplied within caulk cartridge type containers to thus maintain them in a reusable condition. The cap operates as a closure for purposes of resealing a caulk type cartridge to prevent the premature drying out or aging of the materials stored within the cartridge and to also prevent blockage within the cartridge applicator tube. The cap includes an orifice retention rod which is positionable within the applicator tube, and a self-threading insert positioned within the cap is then used to threadably attach the cap to the cartridge. Modified embodiments of the cap include the use of a tether, a scraping edge formed on the orifice retention rod, and a bracket assembly to which the cap is rotatably attached and which may be mounted to a conventional caulk cartridge holding gun.Type: GrantFiled: April 14, 1992Date of Patent: March 22, 1994Inventor: Richard F. Patent number: 5292019Abstract: A tamper evident cap designed for threading onto a container by conventional bottle capping machinery. The cap includes a first set of spaced-apart lugs for engaging a second set of spaced-apart lugs of a container. The lugs of the cap and the lugs of the container neck are constructed to slide relative to each other upon threading of the cap onto the container while engaging each other to prevent unthreading of the cap from the container. The container neck is especially suited for glass bottles which must be blow molded. The cap includes a first skirt portion and a separable strip, and may include a second skirt portion that remains on the container neck after the separable strip has been removed. The gap between the skirt portions left by removing the separable strip indicates that the cap has been tampered with.Type: GrantFiled: April 10, 1992Date of Patent: March 8, 1994Assignees: L. Patent number: 5289929Abstract: This relates to the provision of a vacuum actuated button type closure with a tamper indicating arrangement which will visually indicate when a container has been opened or more particularly when the vacuum within a vacuum packed container has been lost. The deflectable button of the closure is utilized to squeeze a dye from a sponge like member into a layer of absorbent material so as to color the absorbent material. The absorbent material, in turn, is provided with non-absorbent areas which define indicia to indicate that an associated container has been opened.Type: GrantFiled: May 22, 1992Date of Patent: March 1, 1994Assignee: Continental White Cap, Inc.Inventors: Robert J. Patent number: 5287982Abstract: The improved structure for the external cap of a spout used in waterbeds has a cap body with a slot opening, and two flanges with punched holes extending from the edge of said external cap. The two supporting legs of a hand grip can feed through the punched holes of the flanges and move freely. The user can pull up the hand grip to rotate the external cap body in order to open or close said external cap. The horizontal portion of said hand grip has a T-shaped sectional surface which can be partially adapted into the slot; the bottom end portions of the supporting legs have inverted hooks on both sides to avoid the hand grip from disengaging with the external cap.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 1993Date of Patent: February 22, 1994Assignee: Ho Lee Co., Ltd.Inventor: John Tsai

Patent number: 5284270Abstract: An improved lever latch ring for securing a cover panel having a plurality of tabs thereon to a container wherein the tabs extend beneath an outwardly extending rim forming an upper margin of the container and against an outer wall thereof. The improved lever latch ring includes an arcuate member having a lower horizontal portion that coextends the tabs. The lower horizontal portion is urged against the tabs by a lever latch connected to opposing ends of the arcuate member and when so urged confines the tabs against the outer wall and against a lower portion of the rim. A vertical portion is connected to the lower horizontal portion and extends upwardly therefrom in contact with an outermost portion of the cover panel extending intermediate the vertical portion and the rim. Engagement of the lever latch urges the vertical portion against the cover panel to press the cover panel against the rim.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 1992Date of Patent: February 8, 1994Assignee: Self Industries, Inc.Inventor: Fred A. Kusta

Patent number: 5275298Abstract: A storage container for storing powdered baby formula consisting of a first opening mated with a baby bottle and a hollow member rotatably disposed in the container. A wall of the hollow member provides a waterproof seal between the interior of the hollow member and the baby bottle when the hollow member is rotated into a first position. The hollow member defines a second opening which aligns with the first opening when the hollow member is rotated into a second position. The container also has a second open end for mating to a nipple. The container is used to store a pre-measured amount of powdered formula and the baby bottle is used to store a pre-measured amount of water. When in the first position the wall of the hollow member prevents contact between the powdered formula and the water. At a desired time, the hollow member is rotated to the second position to allow the water and powdered formula to mix, thereby producing liquid baby formula.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 1992Date of Patent: January 4, 1994Inventors: James W. Holley, Jr., Kirk B. Kajita

Patent number: 5273179Abstract: A child resistant VCR cover comprises a cover plate having ribs for locating the cover within the video cassette door, a pair of cams which lock the cover in place, grips for rotating the cams, and springs for biasing the cams against the cover plate. The cover is installed by pushing and turning simultaneously the two grips. Each cam has a bevelled surface and acts in a screwlike fashion to engage the interior surface of the VCR frontplate, thereby locking the cover in place. To release the cover, the grips are pushed and rotated until the cams no longer engage the interior side of the VCR frontplate.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 1992Date of Patent: December 28, 1993Inventor: James M. Stratton
