  • Patent number: 6190203
Abstract: Disclosed are a waterproof connector and a method of assembling the same. The waterproof connector is equipped with an inner housing having formed therein a plurality of the terminal accommodation compartments, a seal housing connected to the inner housing in such a way as to be freely movable relative to the inner housing in a direction intersecting the axial direction of an electric wire substantially at right angles thereto, and an outer housing into which the inner housing and the seal housing are freely detachably fitted. In one wall portion of the seal housing opposing the terminal accommodation compartments, electric wire insertion-through-holes are formed. On an inner side of the one wall portion that oppose the electric wire insertion-through-holes, rubber plug accommodation recessed portions are formed.

  • Patent number: 6190215
Abstract: A power port terminal formed by stamping from a blank of conductive material comprises a contact receiving socket portion (12) and an integral mounting portion (14). The socket includes a web with a plurality of beams (20) thereon. The inner surface of the beams on the bends thereof define a substantially continuous cylindrical contact surface at a predetermined point along the reference axis of the terminal. The contact surface has a predetermined constricted dimension (36) measured in a plane perpendicular to the reference axis, this dimension being the most constricted dimension along the reference axis of the terminal. The terminal is thereby able to accommodate a pin of any desired axial length. The trailing mounting legs (46) thereon, that in the preferred instance, extend generally perpendicular to the reference axis of the terminal. Latch tabs (38) may be provided on one or more of the beams.

  • Patent number: 6186801
Abstract: A ground electrode is disposed between a card-side connector and an upper panel, movably forward or backward in the card insertion direction, the ground electrode including protuberances projecting through the protuberance receiving holes of the upper panel. The ground electrode is energized to move forward in the card insertion direction by means of a torsion spring such that, when the PC card is inserted into a 16-bit card slot corresponding to a predetermined high driving voltage, the protuberances in the protuberance receiving holes are moved backward in the card insertion direction against the spring force of the torsion spring.

  • Patent number: 6186814
Abstract: A watertight connector is provided with an inertial locking mechanism, housings of which can be connected while making an operator feel and notice the completion of a connecting operation. The inertial locking mechanism 17 has resistance arms 22 and contact ribs 15 and is provided between male and female housings 11 and 20. A front annular projection 28A of a waterproof ring 27 mounted on the female housing 11 is brought into contact with the leading end of a receptacle 12 of a male housing 20 at a timing when the resistance arms 22 and the contact ribs 15 are brought into contact with each other during a connecting operation of the housings 11, 20. Thus, a peak P3 of a connection resistance value of the waterproof ring 27 and a peak P4 of a connection resistance value of the inertial locking mechanism 17 are synchronized to generate a large connection resistance, and a large inertial force can be obtained when this large connection resistance disappears.

  • Patent number: 6186820
Abstract: A wire-wrap connector block having a base that includes an articulable wall section that facilitates both automated wire-wrapping and potting procedures. During the wire-wrap procedure, the articulable wall section is latched in a position that permits the wire-wrap equipment to access the wire-wrap terminals without undesirable vertical movement of the wire-wrap equipment and wire. During the potting procedure, the articulable wall section is latched in a position in which the articulable wall section, together with another, non-articulable wall section, creates a substantially continuous wall about the bottom surface of the wire-wrap connector block base, defining a potting well or cavity within which potting material may be deposited.

  • Patent number: 6186812
Abstract: A socket for a ball grid array integrated circuit package (BGA) with an array of electrical contacts that extend through holes in a slidable plate. The arrangement of spacing the holes and the electrical contacts therein provides entry openings that allow the ball contacts of a BGA package to enter the openings. The contacts are cupped or angled to mate with the side and top of the ball contacts of the ball grid array package. The contact surface of the ball grid array package is inserted into the socket without any interfering structure, and there may be guide surfaces to align the ball contacts with the openings. A manually rotatable cam actuated in one direction by an arm drives the plate parallel to the plane of the ball contacts to widen the openings to allow easy entry of the balls into the holes. Rotating the arm in the other directions drives the plate in the opposite direction reducing the openings.

  • Patent number: 6186837
Abstract: In a terminal, an resilient locking piece (24) is protruded from an upper surface of a terminal (17). The resilient locking piece (24) includes an engaging portion (25) formed at a central portion thereof, and a pair of abutting portions (26) formed on opposite sides of the engaging portion (25). The engaging portion (25) is engaged with a locking hole formed in a connector housing, while the abutting portions (26) are abutted against a surface of the connector housing which is located at a periphery of the locking-hole. Therefore, even if the terminal is pulled outwardly from the connector housing, the resilient locking piece (24) is prevented from being bent backwardly because of the presence of the abutting portions (26). That is, the terminal (17) is securely held in the connector housing without play.
