  • Patent number: 8749854
Abstract: An image processing apparatus includes an image reception unit, a determination unit, a display unit, a correction accepting unit and a criterion modifying unit. The image reception unit receives a plurality of images. The determination unit determines whether each image received by the image reception unit corresponds to a separator image that represents a separator of a document based on a criterion and outputs a detection result. The display unit displays the detection result output by the determination unit. The correction accepting unit accepts correction of the displayed detection result in accordance with an operation performed by a user. The criterion modifying unit modifies the criterion based on the accepted correction. The determination unit re-determines whether each image received by the image reception unit corresponds to the separator image based on the criterion after the criterion is modified by the criterion modifying unit.

  • Patent number: 8665482
Abstract: A raster image processor (RIP) using a self-tuning banding mode is disclosed. The RIP automatically and continuously adjusts the band size used for generating the raster image based on past performance (i.e. past data throughput values) and corresponding band sizes. At the start of each page of image, or after a certain number of pages has been processed or certain amount of time has elapsed, the RIP determines whether performance has worsened since the last band size adjustment. If it has worsened, the band size is reverted to a previous best performing value. If the performance has improved, then the band size is changed in the same direction as the last change. Raster image processing is performed using the adjusted band size.

Abstract: One digital copying machine is set as a parent machine and other copying machines are set as child machines. When documents are set both on an ADF of the parent machine and on an ADF of at least one child machine, a CPU of the parent machine performs two types of controls in parallel. In the first control, the ADF of the parent machine automatically feeds each of the original documents, the scanner of the parent machine reads images, and MEM-C or HDD of the parent machine stores the images. In the second control, the ADF of the child machine automatically feeds each of the original documents, the scanner of the child machine reads images, IEEE1394 1/F of the child machine transfers the images to the parent machine, and the MEM-C or the HDD of the parent machine stores the images.

  • Patent number: 8537417
Abstract: A method is disclosed for improving printer characterization tables to best reproduce desired colors on a destination device given the ambient illumination at that device's location. The user determines viewing illumination using a target preferably provided with the printer or alternatively printed directly from the characterized printer. The target comprises metameric color pairs allows which users to quickly determine their approximate viewing illumination by selecting the matching pair. A metameric match of color pairs (metamers) is defined to have equal colorimetric values, XYZ or LAB, for one illumination and differing reflectance spectra. Each color pair corresponds to a different illumination condition. All pairs of metamers which comprise the target are examined to determine which pair is the best match. Targets could be bipartite patches, half-and-half images, readability tasks, or images. The appropriate color-correction transform for the selected illumination is applied.

  • Patent number: 8508792
Abstract: In prior art, there are some occasions where functions of a copy-forgery-inhibited pattern are impaired when printed on a sheet after rotation because of the level difference appearing between the density level of a latent image portion and the density level of a background portion of a copy-forgery-inhibited pattern. To cope with the problem, the image processing apparatus which has a generating unit for generating copy-forgery-inhibited pattern image data and a rotation unit for rotating the generated copy-forgery-inhibited pattern image data, wherein the generating unit generates the copy-forgery-inhibited pattern image data to be rotated by the rotation unit in accordance with a rotation angle in the rotation unit.

  • Patent number: 8488206
Abstract: When a facsimile device detects an audio signal via a CNG signal detection unit while detecting an OFF signal in a CNG signal during a telephone conversation, the facsimile device does not detect the audio signal as an OFF signal if the level of the detected audio signal is greater than a threshold and the frequency of the audio signal is within a predetermined audio frequency range. Accordingly, the facsimile device can reliably prevent a false detection of a noise that has a similar signal component to a CNG signal as a CNG signal. It is possible to prevent the facsimile machine from being automatically shifted to a facsimile receiving mode by the false detection of the noise.

  • Patent number: 8405880
Abstract: Methods, algorithms, software, apparatuses and systems for processing image data for imaging devices having irregular scan paths (e.g., scan paths that deviate from a conventional horizontal and/or straight line). The irregular scan paths generally correspond to actual locations of a line of output from an image output device (e.g., a printer). The method generally includes steps of selecting one or more of the input pixels, correlating a location of the selected pixel with a location on an irregular scan path, and producing an adjusted pixel based on a value of the selected pixel, the location on the irregular scan path, and/or values of one or more pixels near the selected pixel.
