  • Patent number: 5364232
Abstract: A variable displacement compressor includes a hinge mechanism having a pair of support arms integrally formed with and protruding from the drive plate, and guide pins which connect the swash plate with the support arms. Each support arm is formed having a unshaped cutaway portion defining a channel for supporting ball portion of the hinge mechanism. The ball portion pivotably secured in the channel portion of the support arm, is attached to guide pin which in turn connects to a bracket protruding from the swash plate. The ball portion transmits pressure & rotational forces generated by the pistons and rotational force of the drive plate respectively. The forces cause the ball portion of the hinge mechanism to impinge upon pre selected surface area of the u-shaped support arm. By impinging on these preselected surface areas of the u-shaped support arm, the ball portion will not disengage from the channel portion of the support arm.

  • Patent number: 5362208
Abstract: A swash plate type variable capacity compressor having rotary valves 16 and 17 that rotate together on a rotating shaft 1. The rotary valves 16 and 17 are arranged on the shaft 1 in such a manner that, upon one complete rotation, the rotary valves 16 and 17 are connected, in sequential manner, for respective rotating angles, with circumferentially spaced piston chambers Sp and Sp' via respective intake passageways on the rotary valves 16 and 17. The arrangement of the intake passageway Pr and Pr' is such that the value of the rotating angle in a communication between the intake passageways Pr and Pr' and the piston chamber changes in accordance with the axial position of the rotary valves 16 and 17 on the shaft 1. Control of the rotating angle can vary the effective volume of the piston chambers Sp and Sp', thereby continuously varying the compressor capacity.

  • Patent number: 5361017
Abstract: Each of a plurality of EL lamps in an instrument panel has its own control circuit for connecting the lamp to an adjustable AC voltage source. Each control circuit includes a photodetector for detecting the intensity of the illumination of its associated lamp, when the lamp is energized. With respect to a given input voltage of the AC voltage source, when the intensity of the light emitted by a given lamp begins to diminish, its control circuit will automatically increase the AC voltage applied across the electrodes of the lamp, thereby maintaining the light intensity of the lamp regardless of its age, for a given AC input voltage to the control circuit. The intensity of each lamp therefore remains consistent throughout substantially the full life of the EL lamp.

  • Patent number: 5354186
Abstract: A balancer arrangement for a rotating machine element employs a peristaltic pump which pumps a balancing fluid to respective balancing chambers via flexible tubing. In an arrangement which employs four balancing chambers, two peristaltic pumps may be employed to control the flow of balancing fluid between respective pairs of the chambers. The radial positioning of the peristaltic pumps is not fixed, but may be selected in response to specific characteristics of the application. In addition, the pump motors may be configured to drive the peristaltic pump rollers by operation of the rotation of the motor shaft, or the motor housing. The tubing along which the balancing fluid is conducted need not have a circular cross-section, and may be installed in a groove or cavity of the balancing arrangement so as to secure against centrifugal forces and prevent ballooning effects.
