Abstract: A bed is provided having a base frame, a patient support assembly connected to the base frame, and a tilt frame connected between the base frame and the patient support assembly. The tilt frame is rotatable adjacent the foot end of the bed to place the patient support assembly, including the head section, seat section and foot section thereof, in a generally vertical position to allow a patient to exit the bed in a standing orientation. The bed also has a foot board assembly connected to the foot section, the foot board assembly having a foot board separately moveable about a longitudinal axis of the bed toward the head end and the foot end of the bed.

Abstract: Person support apparatuses are disclosed. In one embodiment, a person support apparatus comprises a base frame and a primary support frame supported on the base frame. A carriage is freely translatable at least between a head end of the primary support frame and a foot end of the primary support frame. A support surface is supported on the carriage such that the support surface translates with the carriage. The support surface includes a support section which is collapsible in a length direction of the support surface. The support section may include an air bladder and a control valve fluidly coupled to the air bladder that regulates air pressure within the air bladder. The control valve has a normally closed position and a vent position, wherein the person support apparatus comprises an exercise configuration wherein the control valve is in the vent position and the air bladder is vented to atmosphere.

Abstract: Mattresses and improved fabric covers for providing mattresses that have smooth surfaces. Additionally, methods for manufacturing non-quilted mattress covers and for manufacturing mattresses employing non-quilted mattress covers. The systems and methods described herein include mattress panels that can be manufactured separate from the inner core construction, and laid over the inner core to be fastened in place as a sleeping surface for the mattress. Optionally, these mattress panels can include a layer of fire retardant material, that may be added as a layer of material or that may be incorporated into one or more of the layers, such as a filler layer, in the mattress panel.

Abstract: There is provided a bed system for turning a patient, which system is simple to install on existing beds and which does not require any modification of the existing bed. The bed system has a base frame with attachment means for attachment of the bed system to an existing frame of a hospital bed. First and second sections with bed elements ensure proper support for the patient, and these sections are pivotally movable around an axis parallel with the length of the patient.

Abstract: A subject support apparatus includes an upper portion and a lower portion. The upper portion includes a vest having a first end and a second end, a closure mechanism configured to couple the first end of the vest to the second end of the vest from a bottom end of the vest to a top end of the vest to form a closed loop, and a pair of shoulder straps extending from the vest. The lower portion includes a seat piece having a first end and a second end, and a pair of loop straps extending from the first end and the second end of the seat piece. Subject support systems including the subject support apparatus and methods of lifting a subject using the subject support apparatus are also described.

Abstract: An apparatus that is configured to assist a helper to move a seated person from a first, seated position to a second, standing position, includes a lifting/assisting device, the lifting/assisting device being comprised of: a rigid elongated member, the elongated member having a longitudinal axis, a first proximal end and a second distal end, the first proximal end being adapted for being positioned on a floor; an offset section, the offset section being offset from the longitudinal axis a distance X and being located along the elongated member between the first proximal end and the second distal end; and, a lateral grasping member for the person, the grasping member being positioned distally of the offset section; a second offset member, the second offset member being of a dimension to approximately match the first offset section; and, a grab member positioned distally of the second offset member for use by the helper.

Abstract: An inflatable transfer mattress includes a top panel, a bottom panel having a perimeter sealingly coupled to a perimeter of the top panel to define an internal volume therebetween, and a rotational positioning device coupled to the top panel. The internal volume is configured to receive an air flow therein. The rotational positioning device is positioned outside of the internal volume and includes at least one inflatable bladder configured to be inflated from a deflated state to an inflated state. The bladder portion is configured to rotate a patient to a predetermined angle with respect to the top panel in the inflated state.

Abstract: A bedlinen holding system and methods of use, for bedlinen material, such as fitted sheet, flat sheet, blankets, comforters, and the like use to make a bed or other sleeping surface, including at least a fitted sheet removeably affixed to a mattress and likely held in place on the mattress by an elastic band sewn into the perimeter edge of the fitted sheet, the fitted sheet having a foot end and a center section of a foot panel, a flat sheet positioned on top of the fitted sheet, the flat sheet having a foot end and a center section, and a connection system configured to removeably affix the foot end and center section of a foot panel of the fitted sheet to the foot end and center section of the flat sheet, and thus to resist or prevent your partner from pulling the sheets and covers off you.

Abstract: The invention is an asymmetrical bedframe. The bedframe is divided off-center, forming a first platform, or back support section and a second platform, or leg support section. Preferably, the platforms are split to separate the area of the bed frame into a first platform that occupies one-third of the area of the bedframe, and a second platform that occupies two-thirds of the area of the bedframe. The first platform—the smaller area—is intended to support the back of the user or sleeper, specifically by providing a rotational force to keep the user on their side. The second platform—the larger area—is intended to support the body of the user, including head, arms, torso, legs, and feet.

Abstract: An inflatable transfer mattress includes a top panel, a bottom panel having a perimeter sealingly coupled to a perimeter of the top panel to define an internal volume therebetween, and a rotational positioning device coupled to the top panel. The internal volume is configured to receive an air flow therein. The rotational positioning device is positioned outside of the internal volume and includes at least one inflatable bladder configured to be inflated from a deflated state to an inflated state. The bladder portion is configured to rotate a patient to a predetermined angle with respect to the top panel in the inflated state.

Abstract: A smart sling device includes a body; a support rod installed at the body; and a sling member installed at the support rod and inserted under a patient to support the patient therebelow, and the sling member includes an expanding unit having an accommodation space for accommodating air therein, the expanding unit expanding due to a pneumatic pressure generated by the accommodated air to support the patient therebelow; and an expansion limiting unit installed at the expanding unit to limit expansion of the expanding unit in one direction.

Abstract: A pillow that includes a substantially u-shaped pillow body having a medial region and a pair of legs that extend from the medial region to define an opening therebetween. The pillow body includes a casing defining an exterior surface and interior surface of the pillow body. The interior surface defines a lumen of the pillow body, and the lumen is a single continuous interior compartment. The pillow body includes an interior core disposed within the lumen. The interior core may include a flexible insert in a rolled up configuration that substantially fills the interior core. The casing may include a top fabric member, a bottom fabric member, and a middle fabric section that runs along the curved outer periphery and curved inner periphery of the casing, and is attached to the top fabric member and bottom fabric member.

Abstract: The invention may telescopically connect the first support member and the second support member together or pivotally connect the first support member to the pivot hub on the bassinet, such that the bassinet can be adjusted to various heights for a given situation. Furthermore, the bassinet may be adjusted to a desired height and then placed in a play yard without requiring additional components. The frame assembly includes a back frame and a bottom frame that are pivotably coupled together and coordinate to form either the bench configuration that provides a user an upright seat or the bed configuration that provides the user a flat, substantially horizontal bed to lie down on. A user can maneuver the system from the bench configuration into the bed configuration and vice versa. The system may be installed inside of various interior living quarters, including inside of mobile vehicles. The system includes various support elements mounted to the interior space, the support element may be selectively engaged to support the system in the bed or bench configurations and during deployment and stowage of the system.

Abstract: An adjustable bed frame includes a frame, a front support unit connected to the front end of the frame, and a rear support unit connected to the rear end of the frame. The front support unit includes a first top connected to the front end of the frame, and a first bottom contacting a first plane. The rear support unit includes a second top connected to the rear end of the frame, and a second bottom contacting a second plane. An activation device is connected between the rear support unit and the frame. The activation device drives the rear support unit or the second bottom to move or rotate relative to the frame to change the shortest distance between the second bottom and the frame, and to change the distance between the frame and the second plane. The inclination between the frame and the first and second planes is adjusted.
