  • Patent number: 8824482
Abstract: Methods and systems have been provided for removing dead Access Control Entries (ACEs) in an Access Control List (ACL). In one embodiment, the dead ACEs can be detected for an egress as well as an ingress ACL. The ACEs that have a hit count above a user-specified hit count are checked for their validity. The validity of the ACE is checked, using the information based on a Forwarding Information Base (FIB). If an ACE is found to be invalid, it is considered dead. The dead ACEs are referred as candidates for removal from the ACL. If the ACE is found to be a candidate for removal, a system administrator can either warn the network administrator about the candidate for removal or delete the ACE from the ACL after a pre-defined time limit.

  • Patent number: 8824501
Abstract: An optical transport system configured to transmit a set of two or more optical variants per bit-word, with the optical variants in the set being different from one another in one or more of the time of transmission, spatial localization, polarization of light, carrier wavelength, and subcarrier frequency. Differences between the optical variants may also be due to different respective constellation mapping. The optical variants of each set are detected and processed at the receiver in a manner that enables coherent summation of the corresponding electrical signals prior to constellation de-mapping. The coherent summation tends to average out the deleterious effects of linear and nonlinear noise/distortions imparted on the individual optical variants in the optical transport link because said noise/distortions are incoherent in nature. A BER reduction enabled by the use of optical variants may be implemented in addition to or instead of that provided by FEC coding.

  • Patent number: 8804736
Abstract: An ingress router of a provider network receives a packet from a customer network, determines that the packet includes a customer network label and that the packet is to be tunneled through the provider network, based on the determination, adds a delimiter label to the packet indicative of a bottom of a provider network label stack and one or more provider network labels to the packet, and forwards the packet to a next routing device along the provider network tunnel. An egress routing device of the provider network receives a packet comprising a provider network label stack, removes the provider network label stack from the packet, determines whether the packet comprises a delimiter label following the provider network label stack, and, when the packet comprises the delimiter label, forwards the packet to a customer network interface device.

  • Patent number: 8798005
Abstract: Disclosed herein are methods for comparative-throughput triggered handoff. According to one embodiment of the method, the RAN may determine that a higher priority AT is receiving a lower level of throughput than a lower priority AT in the same sector, and as a response, the RAN will cause the higher priority AT to hand off from the current serving sector. According to another embodiment of the method, the RAN may identify which of the ATs being served in a particular sector are receiving lower than a threshold level of throughput, and subsequently determine the highest service priority level of these identified ATs. The RAN will then cause one or more of the identified ATs that have the highest service priority level to hand off from the current serving sector.

  • Patent number: 8780890
Abstract: A hybrid telephony system with packet switching as well as circuit switching optimizes utilization of transport networks, and is accessible from any conventional telephone set. A call originating from a circuit-switched network is passed through a gateway computer to a backbone packet-switched network, and then through a second gateway computer to a second circuit-switched network where it terminates. The voice of both the originating party and the terminating party is converted to data packets by the near-end gateway computer and then converted back to voice by the far-end gateway computer. In an alternative scenario, the originating party uses a computer on the packet-switched network, which replaces the originating circuit-switched network and the originating computer.
