  • Patent number: 9301260
Abstract: To perform control so as to achieve a transmission power that satisfies a desired communication quality by an access method which a mobile station apparatus uses, in consideration of the frequency-selective diversity effect, when switching an access method to the one having a different frequency-selective diversity effect. In a wireless communication system in which a communication control apparatus and a communication terminal apparatus that are able to use a plurality of types of access methods perform wireless communication using any of the access methods, the communication control apparatus, when the necessity of changing the access method arises, determines the access method after change and notifies the communication terminal apparatus of switching the access method before change to the determined access method, and performs the transmission power control in accordance with communication characteristics of the determined access method.

  • Patent number: 9271304
Abstract: A method, in a base station subsystem (10), of allocating radio resources to mobile stations (20) in a wireless communication system (1) involves the base station subsystem (10) assigning a respective Temporary Block Flow (TBF) to each mobile station (20) in a cell (40) in the communication system (1), and then assigning to each TBF a Temporary Flow Identity (TFI), at least one Packet Data Channel (PDCH), and an Uplink State Flag (USF) if the TBF is an uplink TBF. The base station subsystem (10) then selects different training sequences from a plurality of available training sequences and assigns a respective different selected training sequence to two or more TBFs wherein these two or more TBFs share the same assigned Temporary Flow Identity (TFI), the same assigned Packet Data Channel (PDCH), and/or the same assigned Uplink State Flag (USF) if the TBF is an uplink TBF.

  • Patent number: 9264960
Abstract: Systems and methods are described for determining candidates for handover of wireless devices in a wireless network. An application requirement, a mobility, and an activity factor associated with wireless devices in communication with a first access node may be used to classify wireless devices. The first access node may then receive signal information and identifiers of second access nodes from the wireless devices. The second access node identifiers may be transmitted in response to a reporting event based on a first signal level of the first access node and second signal levels of the second access nodes. A communication link between the first access node and each second access node may be used to transmit second access node network characteristics to the first access node in order to determine if the second access node is a candidate for handover of wireless devices having classification criteria.

  • Patent number: 9264981
Abstract: A scanning method in a wireless local area network (WLAN), a station supporting the scanning method, and a new type of interworking information element format including information about a distribution system (DS) are disclosed. In the scanning method, information about a DS is included in a beacon frame or a probe request frame/frame response frame. Such information about the DS may be included in a network type field of, for example, an interworking information element. In an active scanning method, a user equipment (UE) may specify its DS type by transmitting a probe request frame including DS information such as the DS type or the like. In a passive scanning method, the UE may select a suitable AP by using DS information such as a DS type included in the beacon frame or the like. The DS type may be information indicating whether a DS is a wireless network such as a mesh network or any other wired network.

  • Patent number: 9258757
Abstract: A method and system for dynamically controlling the transmission of reverse-link control signals to help reduce interference on the reverse link. A RAN identifies a mobile device whose transmission of reverse-link control signals best represents the reverse-link air interface condition of each other mobile device in a plurality of mobile devices. Then the RAN causes each mobile device in the plurality other than the identified mobile device to not send its respective reverse-link control signal at a given time, thereby reducing the number of mobile devices that transmit reverse-link control signals at the given time.

  • Patent number: 9247071
Abstract: A smart card is used with a network based system to providing portable telecommunication and computing services. In an exemplary embodiment the smart card holds a user authentication code and user telephony account information. The smart card transfers the user authentication code and the account information to one of a plurality of geographically dispersed card readers which are each connected to a local telephony device. When the smart card is plugged into a first card reader, telephone calls directed to the smart card user's follow-me telephone number are received at a first local telephony device. When the smart card is plugged into a second smart card reader, telephone calls directed to the follow-me telephone number are received at a second telephony local device. Hence the user is enabled to receive and place calls using any of the geographically dispersed telephony devices as though they were his/her own personal landline or cellular telephone supplied by his/her telephony services provider.

  • Patent number: 9246659
Abstract: Systems and methods of scheduling sub-carriers in an OFDMA system in which a scheduler takes into account channel conditions experienced by the communication devices to optimize channel conditions. The scheduler can partition a set of sub-carriers spanning an operating bandwidth into a plurality of segments. The segments can include a plurality of global segments that each includes a distinct non-contiguous subset of the sub-carriers spanning substantially the entire operating bandwidth. One or more of the global segments can be further partitioned into a plurality of local segments that each has a bandwidth that is less than a channel coherence bandwidth. The scheduler determines channel characteristics experienced by each communication device via reporting or channel estimation, and allocates one or more segments to communication links for each device according to the channel characteristics.

  • Patent number: 9231841
Abstract: For maintaining a certain quality of service for a certain type of data traffic, the data traffic may be directed to a corresponding bearer established with respect to a user equipment. By sending probe packets on the bearer and/or on a further bearer and receiving a response packets returned in response to the probe packets, a parameter corresponding to a time period between sending a probe packet and receiving the corresponding response packet can be measured. On the basis of the measured parameter, a bearer control procedure with respect to the user equipment is initiated. This bearer control procedure may for example include directing data packets of selected data traffic from one bearer to another bearer, modification of at least one quality of service parameter of a bearer, and/or establishing or releasing a bearer.

  • Patent number: 9225488
Abstract: A shared signaling channel can be used in an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) communication system to provide signaling, acknowledgement, and power control messages to access terminals within the system. The shared signaling channel can be assigned to a predetermined number of sub-carriers within any frame. The assignment of a predetermined number of sub-carriers to the shared signaling channel establishes a fixed bandwidth overhead for the channel. The actual sub-carriers assigned to the channel can be varied periodically, and can vary according to a predetermined frequency hopping schedule. The amount of signal power allocated to the signaling channel can vary on a per symbol basis depending on the power requirements of the communication link. The shared signaling channel can direct each message carried on the channel to one or more access terminals. Unicast messages allow the channel power to be controlled per the needs of individual communication links.

  • Patent number: 9219884
Abstract: Techniques are provided for broadcasting history or coarse representations or both of stroke media and other media. Levels are created for media, and the levels are periodically broadcast. The levels segment the media and allow the media to be examined with details that range from coarse to fine or examined with varying importance or both. The periodic broadcast of the levels provides history of the media. In particular, for stroke data, levels of detail are determined through a certain method. Each level of detail is periodically broadcast. The levels of detail may be shown by themselves or combined at a receiver to create segmented views of the stroke data. A user can select a coarse view of the stroke data to quickly see the stroke history. Additionally, techniques are provided for quickly and repeatedly accessing data elements in already existing data structures. Generally, a description is created that describes data elements in a preexisting data structure.
